My Dad is a Vietnam Veteran, I grew up listening to CCR, my Dad loves CCR of course!! Fortunate son is my favorite and I always think about my Dad's service in the military when I listen to this, it will always be special to me.

I went to Vietnam in 1974-1975, my platoon started off with 37 people, 22 died in the war, then 3 others years later due to natural causes, damn I really miss those guys.

The army isn't about war. If we had a choice, there wouldn't be any war, we try to avoid them if necessary but we all know that it's not nearly as easy as you think. You can highlight all the turmoil and suffering war has created but we wouldn't be here if not for the people who fought. The intricacies of war is complicated, try as we might to protect our values and morals with words but some people just don't think rationally and when push comes to shove, violence is inevitable.

That may be true about Vietnam but it's not true to say, "it's always the common poor who fights for the big powerful men." In the First World War young officers were killed at a far higher rate than other ranks and these young officers were the children of Britain's middle and upper classes. Prior to this, European armies had always been heavily populated by the sons of big powerful men.

For all you kids in school, take it from a valedictorian ivy-leaguer, Leary was 100% correct, "Turn on, tune in, drop out". Any 4yr degree in the U.S. is a complete fucking joke. Don't waste 4 years when you should be able to learn most of the usual curriculum on your own in 6-12 months if you put in 6-8 hours a day. Universities can be worthwhile AFTER you know the basics of any given field. Otherwise, you are spending 4 years at a glorified wank off dating camp for slow learners even at the most prestigious international institutions. They are all a joke. Been there, done that, the emperor has no clothes. My advice is to smoke copious amounts of cannabis and eat psilocybin containing mushrooms and use dimethyltryptamine/ayahuasca occasionally and thoughtfully to maximize your human intelligence, vision and ability.
