  • Boynton Canyon's Secret Subway Cave... Now with that title it'll surely catch everyone's attention! Although the secret may be out of the bag at this point, it is certainly a gem and truly amazing hike that everyone should have the opportunity to experience in their lifetime.
    The Boynton Canyon Trail is only located about 10 minutes from town and just 2 minutes past the entrance to the Devil's Bridge Trail where there is a parking lot, which if full you can just park along the road where there will likely already be many cars making it easy to find.
    From the trailhead this hike is 9km round trip and a relatively easy hike with rough and rocky terrain. At the end when you reach the Subway Cave you will need to scramble up a steep slope to enter the cave.
    This hike took about an hour to reach the Subway Cave and a total of 3 hours to get back to the truck allowing for time spent enjoying some lunch and taking in the views.
    Once in the cave you will be treated with sweeping views of Boynton Canyon from the mouth of the keyhole. From here you can explore around the ledge which will lead you to some very well kept Ancient Ruins estimated to be 700-800 years old.
    I recommend stopping by to check out the Boynton Vista Trail which is about 500m into the hike and only adds 700m to your hike. This trail leads to a large pillar which is also the location of one of the major Vortexes in Sedona.
    ***There are a few ATV rental companies in Sedona that I highly recommend as many of the trails are within 15 minutes or so from town. Many trails can be reached easier with a 4X4 vehicle and it looks like a great time!
    I hope that you can take some notes from my hike that may help you on your future hike or just simply enjoy my experience and the amazing views along the hike at the Boynton Canyon Subway Cave.
    Happy Hiking !

      You’ll have to catch it on your next trip! It has only become more of a known and shared location in the past year or two.

    Cool. There's subway caves here, where I'm at too. These are way cooler than the ones here. They are by "Burney Falls" here. There's more by Klamath Falls in "Captain Jacks Stronghold". They starved the Natives out and diverted the water, to defeat the Natives. Now, they complain because there's no more water! Beautiful pictures! Thank You

    Wild to see so many people at this spot. My wife and I did it in the fall of 2020 and we had the entire place to ourselves for over an hour. Beautiful canyon.

      Wow, that sounds like you were one of the last ones to get to experience that! I believe that the amount of people that were there when I went was relatively low to the norm these days.
      What a place though! Beautiful beyond measure.

    Awesome video! One of the best captured of this magical place! If you dont mind me asking, what time of the day did you go? You got the best lighting in your shots!

    • @HikingThru
      @HikingThru  Před 2 lety

      Wow, that is quite the statement.. thank you!
      My photo from the cave was at exactly 1:10pm and the cave was just entering full shade, so it was uniform in colour which made it not blow out with too much lighting. I would say if you looking for similar lighting aim to be there between 1pm-2:30pm. If you are looking for full light in the cave I would say somewhere between 8-10am though. Although I would try to confirm the suns location with the direction of the cave as the suns direction can change from month to month.
      I hope this helps!
      Happy Hiking🥾

      @siiahlub Před 2 lety +1

      @@HikingThru Thanks man! I also watched another video and the guy did suggest going in the afternoon to avoid harsh lights coming to the cave. But I bet around that time would be crazy crowded. Lol

    • @HikingThru
      @HikingThru  Před 2 lety +1

      @@siiahlub in reality, the only time I can see it not being crowded would be first thing in the morning which may have decent light, rainy days and perhaps near the end of the day. I can’t say for sure though. My suggestion would be to embrace the crowd. There was about 20 or so people up there when I was, it’s all about timing the shots and being patient really. I hope when you end up going it all works out perfect!

    Not a secret anymore....was there a couple weeks ago. Very crowded! Get there early! I would say be at the Boynton Canyon parking lot at least by 6am. lol

    • @HikingThru
      @HikingThru  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, it’s certainly a busy spot, especially during peak season. My personal recommendation would be to head out when it’s not peak season and heading out after the first wave of people. You’ll still get a crowd at 6am, but there’s usually a lull after the early hikers head out.

    Hi

  • @captaindeluxe7328
    @captaindeluxe7328 Před 8 měsíci

    It's no longer a "secret".

    • @HikingThru
      @HikingThru  Před 8 měsíci

      Certainly not a secret anymore, but it has become a beautiful place that everyone can now enjoy and I think that there’s something special in that.
      As I was there I was happy to see several children awestruck by the beautiful structure and I hope that more people can have that exact experience. To gatekeep beautiful places such as this (unless it is on private land) is simply selfish.
