Not gonna lie, I love how Netease made their relationship unhealthy. In that kind of situation being surrounded by so much abuse, who in their right mind could ever end up with a perfect romantic relationship? Considering the scene, the professional help definitely wasn’t good at all. Keep in mind the game doesn’t take place in modern days so… the general opinion towards mental illnesses was definitely bad and ignorant back then, doctors weren’t as scientifically progressed and informed as they are now so she’s definitely in the right for getting him out of there. Just think about asylums and electroshock therapy, that’s pretty much what was happening

The story is kinda complicated but quite adorable Basically ada (therapist) felt so bad about the patient since he kept being in pain with the needle treatment that he gets so she took him away and handled him herself at first the whistle hypnosis (her therapy/ability ingame) kind of worked but slowly it's progress got slower till suddenly it does not work anymore because the more she tries to treat him the more the patients bad memories come back to him then when all hope is lowering they were invited to the manor and they intended to join the trials since the guy behind it promised that it could give them money but she did not know what actually awaits them there... Also added bonus that the only thing that what's keeping the patient from being insane was the therapy and his interest for the therapist... Basically they like each other but they never told it to each other.... Saddening since the trial gave them the paradise...
Their design is so amazing!Like it or not people are basically required to have both characters in the match together because they provide extra buffs(also Emil decodes 30% slower when any other female survivor decodes w him) I personally like the concept of them being together,keep in mind Ada tried to help him as much as she could,she's not like the 'Joker'(ppl compare her to him but she didn't use Emil like Joker used Harley)
If anyone has watched the show “Ratched” you’d understand the “relationship” or the given points of their characters; the reasoning to emi’s treatments were of those back then were doctors were finding ways to cure people of AHDH, being gay, seizures and other issues that existed back in the time where medicine for those things never existed or were properly examined, Ada has to establish a relationship with Emi inorder to “treat” him because at the time Ada and Emi are from the year 1940’s-1950’s where lobotomies were created to “rid patients of illnesses” Ada as a doctor is infatuated with wanting to be the first doctor to complete a successful lobotomy because at the time over 200,000 of these were done with half of them not being successful completely paralyzing the patient themselves; Ada and Emi are both from the UK as treatment with electrician and boiling baths to “cure” patients were mainly based in United Kingdom Ada cares for Emi which is why she goes through with a lobotomy because she’s trying to “rid” him of his illness; mind you at the time lobotomy’s were given left in right even practiced in-front of a whole group of doctors to showcase the procedures, the only reason Ada wants Emi to herself is because she can’t stand seeing Emi get tortured and traumatized, she would hypnotize him because again at the time doctors would do this to help a patient find where certain trama was met; seeing as what she is doing so far isn’t successful she goes through the lobotomy which is what we see at the end, before going off in eachother atleast do your research before trying to “spit facts” the whole fandom whines n cries abt toxic relationships as if the game itself isn’t horror filled: the only reason Harley X joker exists is because the show in itself is a whole lot series about bad people and good people Harley x Joker within the fandom will exist because they were the iconic duo partner within the time the comics even reached the shelves: the only reason why people romanticize them is because their captivating stories through the whole serious from start and finish hence why Harley is no longer seen with joker and a new character is now jokers sidekick, y’all need to stop fighting over a ship in a horror game understandable ships are allowed n stuff but when something is clearly cannon let it be and go in your way half of you guys are too young to even process certain behavior

I think the reason people are calling it toxic mostly is because, in the story that came out for them, it said Emil was the first patient that reacted positively to Ada’s hypnotherapy and that’s why she initially felt she had to take him with her. It’s also got a lot to do with the power imbalance, it’d kinda be like you dating your therapist or doctor. Don’t get me wrong, I think these two are cute as hell - I’m a big sucker for characters having partner abilities. I wouldn’t say it’s toxic, just unhealthy. The way I see it: Emil was an orphan who was attacked by dogs in underground dog fights for the entertainment of sadistic crooks. Because of it he gained a very severe case of PTSD and was incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital where healing methods would be seen more as torture than treatment. Ada, feeling bad for how Emil was treated, decided to break him out of the hospital and try to treat him with her hypno-therapy. The treatment was working fine until Emil’s brain started to develop an immunity to the hypnosis, but that wasn’t going to stop Ada from trying to heal Emil, her patient and beloved. Then one day, a mysterious messenger arrived and presented a invitation that states that if Ada partake in a game, she could be rewarded with a miracle method that could cure Emil’s trauma and allow the two lovers to be together.

I have a few add-ons, but it'd mostly make me sound like a broken record- the only REALLY bad part I can think of is the fact that while Ada wanted to help Emil, Emil wasn't in the right headspace to actually properly consent due to various factors. And that's a pretty large part of why I'm not really comfortable with the ship.

Emil was being kept in a torturing center and Ada got him out of it and helped him escape to go stay with her where she alone will try to help him recover. However that is unhealthy because Emil should have gotten professional care, and now Emil is just completely obsessed and reliant on Ada alone, and at the end Ada made some deal with a businessman about who knows what but it definitely had something to do with Emil.

Considering the scene, the professional help definitely wasn’t good at all. Keep in mind the game doesn’t take place in modern days so… the general opinion towards mental illnesses was definitely bad and ignorant back then, doctors weren’t as scientifically progressed and informed as they are now so she’s definitely in the right for getting him out of there. Just think about asylums and electroshock therapy, that’s pretty much what was happening
She made a deal with him to perform a lobotomy on him. Its a surgery they used to do to try to remove trauma from the brain but it never worked and often made the situation worse for the patients
This touches my heart, as a BS Psych student mesmer is a major influence in how we treat patients. These characters are show such tragedy of mental illness and we should fight against the stigma of mental illness, the brain is an organ, it gets sick.

and the fact that emir cannot consent properly, as he is clearly not in the right mental state to be making his own decisions. he trusts ada *because* of the hypnotherapy.
it’s a patient-doctor relationship, the power imbalance is uncomfortable. it’s like a teacher-student relationship, except she can control him and he is mentally unstable, while she is responsible for caring after him.

The story is kinda complicated but quite adorable
Basically ada (therapist) felt so bad about the patient since he kept being in pain with the needle treatment that he gets so she took him away and handled him herself at first the whistle hypnosis (her therapy/ability ingame) kind of worked but slowly it's progress got slower till suddenly it does not work anymore because the more she tries to treat him the more the patients bad memories come back to him then when all hope is lowering they were invited to the manor and they intended to join the trials since the guy behind it promised that it could give them money but she did not know what actually awaits them there... Also added bonus that the only thing that what's keeping the patient from being insane was the therapy and his interest for the therapist... Basically they like each other but they never told it to each other.... Saddening since the trial gave them the paradise...
Their design is so amazing!Like it or not people are basically required to have both characters in the match together because they provide extra buffs(also Emil decodes 30% slower when any other female survivor decodes w him)
I personally like the concept of them being together,keep in mind Ada tried to help him as much as she could,she's not like the 'Joker'(ppl compare her to him but she didn't use Emil like Joker used Harley)

If anyone has watched the show “Ratched” you’d understand the “relationship” or the given points of their characters; the reasoning to emi’s treatments were of those back then were doctors were finding ways to cure people of AHDH, being gay, seizures and other issues that existed back in the time where medicine for those things never existed or were properly examined, Ada has to establish a relationship with Emi inorder to “treat” him because at the time Ada and Emi are from the year 1940’s-1950’s where lobotomies were created to “rid patients of illnesses” Ada as a doctor is infatuated with wanting to be the first doctor to complete a successful lobotomy because at the time over 200,000 of these were done with half of them not being successful completely paralyzing the patient themselves; Ada and Emi are both from the UK as treatment with electrician and boiling baths to “cure” patients were mainly based in United Kingdom Ada cares for Emi which is why she goes through with a lobotomy because she’s trying to “rid” him of his illness; mind you at the time lobotomy’s were given left in right even practiced in-front of a whole group of doctors to showcase the procedures, the only reason Ada wants Emi to herself is because she can’t stand seeing Emi get tortured and traumatized, she would hypnotize him because again at the time doctors would do this to help a patient find where certain trama was met; seeing as what she is doing so far isn’t successful she goes through the lobotomy which is what we see at the end, before going off in eachother atleast do your research before trying to “spit facts” the whole fandom whines n cries abt toxic relationships as if the game itself isn’t horror filled: the only reason Harley X joker exists is because the show in itself is a whole lot series about bad people and good people Harley x Joker within the fandom will exist because they were the iconic duo partner within the time the comics even reached the shelves: the only reason why people romanticize them is because their captivating stories through the whole serious from start and finish hence why Harley is no longer seen with joker and a new character is now jokers sidekick, y’all need to stop fighting over a ship in a horror game understandable ships are allowed n stuff but when something is clearly cannon let it be and go in your way half of you guys are too young to even process certain behavior

Ada is doing genuinely everything in her power (and everything available in the time period) to help the person she loves, I'm genuinely confused as to why this is considered toxic? She's not abusing him or taking advantage of him, did it become toxic for people with mental illness to date people this year or something?
I think the reason people are calling it toxic mostly is because, in the story that came out for them, it said Emil was the first patient that reacted positively to Ada’s hypnotherapy and that’s why she initially felt she had to take him with her. It’s also got a lot to do with the power imbalance, it’d kinda be like you dating your therapist or doctor. Don’t get me wrong, I think these two are cute as hell - I’m a big sucker for characters having partner abilities. I wouldn’t say it’s toxic, just unhealthy. Guys PLEASE, She loves him. It doesn't mean she is using him. Not all relationship starts from the sunny playground. He needed to be better before he can be with other people. The way I see it:
Emil was an orphan who was attacked by dogs in underground dog fights for the entertainment of sadistic crooks. Because of it he gained a very severe case of PTSD and was incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital where healing methods would be seen more as torture than treatment. Ada, feeling bad for how Emil was treated, decided to break him out of the hospital and try to treat him with her hypno-therapy. The treatment was working fine until Emil’s brain started to develop an immunity to the hypnosis, but that wasn’t going to stop Ada from trying to heal Emil, her patient and beloved. Then one day, a mysterious messenger arrived and presented a invitation that states that if Ada partake in a game, she could be rewarded with a miracle method that could cure Emil’s trauma and allow the two lovers to be together.
