Just take clips from interviews, put a bunch of effects on them, and then pretend to "ask" them questions. Then just pretend you have a gift of somehow summoning all sorts of people. Could you imagine Tupac coming back from the spirit realm to talk to some random CZcamsr through a spiritbox? what a joke
Another way they use the gaps is by saying things like..."Are you male.......turn the light on........in 3....2....1....." just to give more time for a malfunction!

I’m a nurse and I keep a tiny light like this on my badge. I always joke that “the ghosts are around” when it turns on randomly
My favorite recent example of all of this was when Shane and Ryan were trying to have a flashlight conversation and Shane asked if a certain spirit was there not realizing that person is still alive but the flashlight turned on right at that moment causing both of them to break out laughing because that would seem to imply she’s dead.

Well said. I first saw this flashlight method on Buzzfeed Unsolved. Which to be fair, was a good series imo. But they never clarified the details of the method which led me to researching it, and came to the same conclusion presented in this video.
In general, as you say, Paranormal investigations are summed up as:
"Is anyone here?" *silence*
"Is anyone here?" *silence*
"Is anyone here?" *silence*
"Is anyone here?" *slight nose/light comes on/EMF light flickers*
And they take that last one as evidence despite the literal 1000's of times they got no response. It's just a coincidence by sheer brute force. And I'm certain most investigators know this, but it's content so they have to play it up.
I love Sam and Colby. And I genuinely believe they don’t know about this. Cause if they did, I don’t think they would be using them. But that is very interesting, thank you for explaining this phenomenon 😁
My therory is that the dude who introduced them told them. That they do indeed go off randomly but the ghost can interfere and answer questions 😂

This is great, Mythos! Everything you've presented makes complete sense. It's like making a short in the circuit. Then confirmation bias kicks in if it just happens to seem to respond to a question, or even if it just randomly flickers. People are gonna automatically think it's a ghost doing it. It does make me wonder who uses it not understanding the science behind it, and who uses it when they completely understand the science behind it. Of course, the latter, would be faking it. I'm catching up on your videos because I've been visiting my Mom and we ended up hanging out and talking more than watching stuff. Excellent work, good sir!

I hate that some of my favorite shows on tv/discovery plus use this 😢 now I'll be questioning them more, this is like love hate information really, love to know the truth but hate that i lost faith in some shows/investigators! Hi Mythos. It had never occurred to me that’s what they were doing even though I know these flashlights work in the way you’ve described as I found out quite by accident a few years ago…great video as always!
One big positive I see to your videos is that you get the point across concisely and without a lot of fluff. Don't get me wrong, you have an entertaining presenting style, and I would probably watch longer videos from you, but I think this style will have greater reach and appeal to people who aren't already following debunking creators.
I don't feel the need to comment on the flashlight trick, because it seems pretty straight forward.
Really good explanation as to what the torches are actually doing. On my first investigations before I knew anything about any of the devices I was using I used my old torch like this. However nothing happened. Now I know a whole lot more about devices thanks to the debunkers breaking them down and explaining how they function and are not reliable paranormal investigative tools. You are absolutely right, Mythos. There are plenty of videos debunking this method, and it's been debunked for YEARS now. But there are still investigators (and dubious CZcamsrs) who STILL use this method, and either still claim it's actual "spirit communication", or willfully pass those false positives to their ignorant and gullible followers. So, your video debunking the flashlight technique is VERY welcome and much appreciated! Awesome job yet again! 👏👏👏

@@bonv4787 Some makeup some are real scratch marks they get while trying to get into buildings through broken doors and windows or even walls. You can easily get red lines from backpack or even rub fingertips hard few times, don't even have to use nails. I've seen this types many times. Easily faked or assume ghosts did it while it was just from something logical. And the other thing is hives from going into dusty old buildings. I get those and I could show off such marks on every video if I was making ghost videos lol

You are right on with this. Anyone can try this, and get the same results. It’s all in the editing. I would recommend that they not be called investigators. They’re scammers. Any serious paranormal investigator would be highly offended at calling these kids investigators.

They're actually pretty funny games comedians on their own channels, but neither of them have any ghost experience so they're definitely just patsies for Sam and Colby here. It doesn't help that their cultural reference for ghost hunting is Phasmophobia, where ghost hunters regularly get killed by ghosts on the job lol

I'd love to see a video of just experimenting with the flashlights in different temperatures, humidity, etc.
We did the flashlights on a tour of TALA, it was fun, the hits make ya forget the misses. It was cold, November, & the flashlights did their thing, I'm sure we had em nice & warm b4 we started.
I always thought it was fake.
Because I didn't know how it worked.

Great educational debunk Mythos, it's time that look and learn became compulsory for investigating before you ghost hunt.
Once I was using a different type of flashlight before I got the one that Sam and Colby use, and it was only flickering then it shut off completely. The flashlights I have witnessed with my own eyes, and I believe that they can be debunked, but I've done countdown after countdown and they are almost immediate. Sam and Colby cured my depression and helped me see the good in life, so I don't want to believe they are faking anything, but if it turns out they are, I will be devastated.
If you enjoy watching them, keep watching them no matter what you find out. Tbh I have different opinions about them than you, but I can relate to having depression. So just wanted to leave you with the idea that their videos can still help you no matter if they’re real or not. You found something that helps! Keep it up! I still enjoy watching them even with my opinions, no matter where I am on the believer scale, I’ve always watched ghost stuff because it’s entertaining. When I’m entertained, I’m happy/happy-ish. So continue to be entertained my friend and I hope it brings you happiness! ❤
Im not going to try to change your views on them though, don’t worry. Having different opinions is what makes humans interesting.
I mean despite definitely faking some things, they nail it on the editing, sound effects and pacing. Nothing wrong with watching entertainment for entertainment's sake. I just see them as the movie length version of those "top 5 ghosts caught on camera" videos we've all watched at one point in our lives.

Yeahhh that's what I was kinda thinking like I covered in this. But after editing I was thinking hmm not sure. The way Colby keeps looking at Sam
Another huge issue I have with these kinds of methods is no one ever does (or shows) baseline questioning and/or control questions.
Everyone that believes this needs to ask nonsensical or non-applicable questions.
For example: You know you’re damn well in Virginia. You ask “Are we in New York?” Questions of that sort. If the “spirit” lights up the torch when you ask “are you a male” verify that, or later ask “are you a female.” I guarantee that thing will light up at a question they don’t want that happening with.
Ok so I think this is the only video where I am a bit iffy because I have done this myself and I am a very firm believer in ghosts and anything paranormal because of my experiences. I do believe parts of the flashlight though because the science just makes sense but I also do believe sometimes there are spirits. One time I was at a friends house and we were doing the flashlight method and it was going VERY well like I mean perfect conversations I even have video footage. At one point it fell down and we had to fix it and put it back in the middle (it falling down could have effected it) because it wasn't turning on for a while (we also had a cat ball already pre set up with the flashlight) and we asked "can you try and light the flashlight to see if it works. if its not working could you please turn on the cat ball" we waited about a minute and the cat ball went off. we fixed the f;flashlight and it started turning off and on perfectly again to our questions and sometimes if it stopped working, the ghost would resort back to the cat ball. this is just one of my best examples as to why I do believe the flashlights work and don't work but ghosts are 100% real.

@@MythosParanormal yeah I think your right, i used to think they were fully legit but the more I look into it the more I realise how sketchy they are.
If the metal cools down and turns off, where does the heat come from what turns it on again? I does make sense that it would be the metals expansions what turns it on but in the sense of expanding -> turns on and shrinkining -> turns off it would either stay on, or stay off. Would rather make more sense if it gets hotter it turns off.
No because it's not fully connected so a lot of heat ends up escaping at one point in the process and this begins to turn off, thus it loops
Fascinating! I do not believe in the paranormal, but I do go ghost hunting from time to time and have used the flashlight technique. I haven't been able to find an explanation for it. With the 'delays' in turning on or off, we wondered if it had to do with potential lack of energy, since we couldn't explain why it was turning on and off without anyone near it. I will try this out in my home after holding it for awhile and see if it still does this! That will debunk my entire investigation of the Ohio State Reformatory.

Well it would be a waste of time really. If you use logic and sense, you get no ghost reponses. It simply is not a real phenomena, even if ghosts and spirits are real. Real incidents caught in video are now buried deep deep deep in all the pure fake crap floating to the top now. Real events are rare and when it happens no one is making a video of it.

The thing that gets me about these fakers, is they can't believe in it themselves otherwise you wouldn't want to ever fake anything ever. People who have genuinely witnessed things happen would never mislead anyone. I've seen things with people seeing the same things as well, I'd never on a million years want to fake anything because I know it's a real thing.

Exactly. I am so mad about all these fake ghost hunters now. I myself experienced ghosts 2 times in my life, to this date still most terriffying thing that ever happened to me and my 2 cousins. I was so hoping for a real proof of ghosts from someone and then there is this. I am so dissapointed.
on the tv show "A Haunting" we had a different method on how to set the flashlights off. It was a different type of flashlight as well. There are many ways.
I think Shane and ryan are good examples of investigators since when they do use this method they mention "the light will also randomly turn on and off in this setting. So responses need to be timely and repetitive for a compelling interaction." which makes me trust them even if they still use it knowingly. plus i love how they always try to debunk stuff lol

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for debunking this. These flashlights was the thing that made me believe Sam and Colby were real. I started watching their videos believing they are fakers (I believe in Paranormal not it in Most Paranormal yputubers) but then I didn’t know what was happening with these flashlights. They had me fooled! I feel horrible now, thinking how they played me and keep doing so with millions of unsuspecting people. Just look at those poor girls in the video. (I hope they are actually in on the trick and getting compensated for playing along. Or else it would be just wrong)

Another thing that can set them on and off is vibration, specially on wooden surfaces. depending on other factors (temp, air pressure, etc.) even vibrations from talking can set them to turning on and off.
When Shane and Ryan use the flashlights in their videos, I like that they have a disclaimer in the little intro but they do that the flashlights can turn on and off at random when they’re in this setting. They’re like “yeah, if the response is timely and happens multiple times you can maybe believe it, but take it with a grain of salt because it could just be the setting it’s in”.

Would love to see your opinion of detune’s Paranormal Detour series. He livestreams everything, and has me convinced he’s not faking anything. He uses flashlights, and often the conversations don’t make a ton of sense, but every now and then it seems like a clear conversation. Some things can definitely come down to coincidence for sure.

I think a main thing with a lot of ghost hunters/paranormal investigators is that most stuff is just 'confirmation bias' as you explained in the video with the hits and misses. While a number of things are 'ignored' by the 'spirit' the only things which they will remember looking back on it is the things that got answered. And if they had a lot of answers (say 25% of things they asked were answered, but they asked 100 questions) the times they got answered are what they're remembering and 'confirming' to be 'real'.

While I appreciate you being courteous to Sam and Colby I don't like to watch them as their behaviour is all too frequently over-the-top, immature, and they have come across as disingenuous for a long time now; one of them was quite adept at feigning emotions in a video some years ago which doesn't inspire trust.
We all have known this and if you didn't well you learned a lesson. Either way I'm glad you're exposing fake shit. It's sad how people get rich from being fake.

I don't watch them for science, I watch them to see them freak out by a flashlight turning on, or a door moving, or a house creaking, or as the darkness warps their tenuous connection to reality and their subconscious fears take over making them all experience what could be called a shared hallucination. Well done Mythos!! You've almost gone full debunker. The torches have been known about for years. I think you're being kind on Sam & Colby. Personally, I just can't watch them. They annoy the hell out of me. As someone who takes investigations seriously, if those two turned up to one of mine, they'd be out the door faster than you can say "joint manipulation".
Mythos! You knew I would be in here commenting. 😁😜 We have used the flashlights on every investigation. You could probably tell that I have been more skeptical or curious about it being random. Weird as Zack is the skeptical one and he thinks there is more credibility with the flashlights. Yup even after we looked into it and found this information out ourselves. We haven’t been on an investigation since. However I do want to do my own experiments. Just like with the catballs. I know heat plays a large role. So we want to time them in different environments. Cold, room temperature or warm/hot. The very first investigation we did over a year ago (still not edited) was in freezing cold. There was snow on the ground. The flashlights would go off and on for questions and otherwise mostly stay off. That to me is more compelling. At least for now. I have quite a few questions so I’m sure my experiments will give me more answers. I do think spirits can manipulate anything. But like the apps. If there is a greater chance for random occurrence and no way to tell if it’s random or not then it doesn’t fit in with a serious investigation.
Sam and Colby friend Jake Weber he made a video on why he doesn't make videos with Sam and Colby anymore when it comes to ghost hunting. And he already explained that like some of the things they use is full of crap like the dowsing rods. "They're going to move no matter." what the same thing with the EVP I believe it's called it's the one with the color lights with the green that goes all the way to red dat detect ghost and everything and he said "it doesn't matter because you're surrounded by electrical currents anyways." Basically, some of the stuff they use are crap. "

I always had something in mind like this, but the videos entertained me so i keep watching them. But how can you debunk the RemPod? Maybe they have like a Remote controll?
the rempod is most likely a real deal as opposed to the flashlights, if you are a non believer that's also completely fine, some things are fake, some things are real, but we may never be sure until we do it ourselves, tho i'm very sure the flashlights are fake and sam and colby just don't know abt it
It's rather interesting. I did an overnight at The Conjuring House recently and they deployed this tactic for us to use throughout the night. That and the dowsing rods which are a joke too.
