My wife loved Billy, before she recently passed. Once in a generation talent, I'll never be able to flat pick as well as this man does...but I'll keep trying. For her, she loved it when I played guitar.

The first time I heard this song was on my way home from burying my best friend. I can’t even begin to explain what this song has meant to me. It’s almost as if it was written for me at that exact moment in time. I love it. It makes me cry but more importantly it brings back fond memories of my buddy. Billy Strings is so amazing. Lost brother at 24 to heroin od. You'd think that would stop the train but I continued on for 12 more years. One day just woke up over it. Went to lake spent 2 weeks just trying to stay alive ve kinda wanting to die. Been mostly clean 40 years but never ends. This song sings the story. Just wish I could listen without crying. If your out there know it can be done but your the only one who can help you. ☮️

@Billy Strings official Billy I grew up in South Lyon Michigan in a Bluegrass family from Tennessee. My Grandfather and I would play guitar all the time. My mother moved us to Florida. I lost my Grandfather in 90. I was molded to play in this style. When he died my father took his 62 tele and 58 Gibson Dove plus other guitars. I was so disgusted I quit playing. I wish Hanford was alive to hear you. God Bless you young man your music speaks volumes to me. Thank you

Yup she passed on Valentines Day. Alzheimers is an ugly disease and if my brain betrays me I will end it .I'm.not as.fortunate as.my mom to have a daughter and husband to care for her 24/7 .Our system is cruel.I feel we should get the help we deserve when we decide the load given us is far too much for ourselves and loved ones.It should be up to us .

Why does everyone feel a need to put music and artists into a genre?...who gives a shit? This is a great song that doesn't need to fit into a genre, doesn't need to be compared to new or old music, or need anyone to say it/he sounds like anyone else. This is a great song and Billy Strings is a great musician...that's all that needs to be said!
Genre is used to segment the market, to help the industry know who they can sell to whom. It's used to describe music and musicians, but from a commercial perspective. No reason to get bogged down with it otherwise.
Doesn't matter how high of a ladder I put Billy Stings on he always climbs even higher .. Most amazing overall artist I've ever seen.

I had the pleasure of hearing him play this live in Pittsburgh last fall. The first time I heard it was about a week after I lost a good friend to an overdose. I’ll always think of her when I hear it, and now I think of my late grandfather as well who I spent most afternoons with until he passed recently. “There’s a lot I’d like to say before your final page is read” hits harddddd

Rlly makes me wish I wouldn’t of stopped playing guitar seriously around 23. Picked it back up a few years ago at 29. Basically haven’t put it down. This dude is so inspirational.

i leaned over and told my wife, this kid is special. Not sure what year that was, but it was at a bluegrass festival in Lowell Mi and you on stage with your dad. Then I got to see you with Don Julin multiple times and I'm really blown away. Bought every CD you came out with and recorded every live performance with a digital recorder [thanks for permitting me Billy] I really miss you here in Michigan but I knew you'd get right where you are and am happy to have had the privilege of seeing at least that part of your journey first hand. Keep it up and most importantly, keep that heart and soul that really sets you apart from technical guitar players. Peace.

It's only February and yet, this is the best goddamn thing I am going to hear all year.
I lost 3 friends to heroin/fentanyl in a 8 week period 2 years ago and this song hits close to home. Billy has composed a beautiful and eloquent song in memory of his friends and I am sure I'm not the only other person that can relate to it. To every one who has lost a family member or friend to this horrible epidemic you have my deepest sympathy. It hurts.

My dad passed away recently, this song just hits me so deep It's hard to explain, squeezes the emotion out of you like orange juice. My dad and I loved playing Bluegrass together, I rly wish he was around for me to share some of Billys tracks with. Every time I'm listening I feel him next to me clear as day just tapping and bobbing away with me.

I love the entire Home album, but this song is just incredible. Not pure bluegrass, it would fit right in on The Band’s first album. Just outstanding for its lyrics, instrumentation and feel. Billy’s got an old soul. Fantastic work.

This song has come up in the midst of all the other Billy Strings I play at work. I've seen strangers passing through come to a halt and listen. A switch goes off, a heavy nerve is struck. Regardless of preferences, upbringing, race, or species, this is a song for all the living and dead of history.
