    Vikings should have proactively suspended Addison for at least two games for all the reasons mentioned. It isn’t acceptable for a parent to abdicate responsibility for holding their kids accountable for mistakes and putting in the hard work to help them learn and grow. It isn’t acceptable for the coaching staff and front office either. This is a disservice to Addison and the team to brush this under the rug.

    • @DerrickRG

      Literally zero teams do that.

    • @intrepidfool
      @intrepidfool Před měsícem

      @@DerrickRGThat isn’t true. Teams, including Vikings under Spielman, have suspended players for conduct detrimental to the team. It is a weak look for the Vikings to defer to the league and legal process. Adrian Peterson is the obvious one. Packers suspended Alexander for a week last year. Etc., etc..
      It isn’t like there is any doubt about Addison’s guilt. He will be suspended by the league. It is bad PR for the Vikings to wait and sends inconsistent messaging to the team. This staff suspended their OC for three weeks for his DUI last year. It is troubling that they are taking a different and soft approach with Addison.
      Some people need consequences in order to course correct.

      The opinion the organization has maybe different than mine or yours but I’m going to respect it and move on. The real proof will be in #3 conduct moving forward. The league will do its investigation and render an appropriate discipline for the conduct. We are all very emotional after what happened….. let’s see how #3 conducts himself and addresses the situation when he is asked questions by the media. I expect he will not discuss anything regarding the incident.

    Even though the situation is far more tragic with Jackson than Addison, from a management situation Addison presents much greater challenges. I think the Vikings are handling the Jackson situation with the caring and respect it deserves. Addison is a player who is an important piece to the future. It's clear the head coach and organization want him in the building. It's a balancing act between appropriate player discipline and alienating the player. Also, trading your #2 WR when you're not exactly thrilled with your #3 WR probably isn't in the cards. There may be things behind the scenes with Vikings and Addison that we're not privy to. I'm sure Matthew won't like this, but as training camp begins this story is going to be far away in the rearview mirror. It's just the way these things work.

    This is the new way of doing things when people make mistakes. It comes from kids that actually got punished for making mistakes that didn't think it was fair. Now they are adults raising kids the way they wanted to be treated. Which is to hug the mistakes out of them. As a result, we have a bunch entitled me first people that shuck responseablity for their actions.

    There were no charges filed of a DUI so let’s not keep saying he got a DUI because there was never a DUI filed. Is whatever happened a big concern? Of course but maybe the fact then saying they are waiting is because nothing has been filed or completed he was arrested under “suspicion of a DUI” then released in less than 2 hours. If he was drunk enough to pass out guaranteed he wouldn’t have been released after 2 hours. The truth is no one knows or hasn’t been announced of what fully happened so as KOC said. “Let it play out”

    What’s the problem with waiting to find out the legal process. They didn’t say they wouldn’t discipline… I think it’s smart with a 22 yr old to get him back around his team and discipline after making sure he is in a healthy mindset. Telling him not to come to training camp seems like a dumb move before you see him and speak to him in person

    I think that falling asleep drunk in your car is not the same as driving your car, so there is that. A 22 year old kid like him apparently didn't know that they will charge you with intent to drive drunk, if you are sleeping behind the wheel. Permissiveness rules the day in parenting today, so this is where we are now. 🙄

    I definitely understand people being upset with Addison. However, where was all this anger when it was Wes Phillips? Addison is what 22, 23 years old? How old is Wes Phillips? I would think he’s at least 40.
    I suggest everyone including you two keep that energy. I’m not supporting DUI’s btw just pointing out the difference in coverage between both incidents.

      This is Addison's second offence in 11 months - both extremely dangerous, uncommonly irresponsible events. Phillips was barely over the legal limit - still bad. Addison should get a 10 game suspension without pay given the proximity to his teammate's death. It would only be good for him.

    • @michaeljohnson8353
      @michaeljohnson8353 Před měsícem

      @@laredolassoo Phillips is 40+ and a coach. If he wasn’t suspended during the season why should Addison? Make it make sense. Why do we punish our youth harsher than we do our adult “role models”? I’ll go and watch the Wes Phillips reaction video Matthew is referring to. I hope I see the same exact response. In my opinion the Addison media coverage has been quite different than the Phillips coverage.
      I’m not absolving Addison of any wrongdoing. I do have a problem with punishing young adults more harshly than grown adults with much more experience and in Phillips situation he comes from the Bud Phillips family correct? If that’s the case I’ll be every last dollar of my pay checks he’s had a more privileged upbringing than Addison. More resources and media training. Again both made egregious mistakes. However, your solution is exactly what I dislike and disagree with pertaining to the juxtaposition of these similar scenarios.

      For driving under the influence and passing out on the freeway, blocking the lane. It isn’t a mystery and he clearly commited a crime. He will be suspended. Vikings should get in front of this from both PR and culture accountability perspectives. KOC and KAM are making a mistake coddling him for his second serious offense in less than a year. Addison needs consequences and counseling. He has a problem.

    This is a problem across many major sports. You're taking kids and giving them absolutely massive amounts of money. And youre getting a lot of players that come from less than ideal socioeconomic backgrounds. They aren't mature, they still carry the mentality that people who come from those situations have. We throw them millions of dollars, open the door to the world for them and then expect them to skip straight to total mental and emotional maturity. I could go on for hours but i think we could all agree that this isnt a recipe thats going to yeild amazing results even if some people handle it well.

      This is an inappropriate comment - kids from upper middle class families do the same damn thing throughout the major sports. Hell, Keith Millard crashed into a McDonald's.
