    I served in the USMC during "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." It was humiliating and terrifying hiding being gay, with the risk of going to the brig if caught. When my boyfriend died, I had to hide what was happening to me. I turned to drugs and alcohol to get through it, but luckily made friends who helped me. I don’t want their pardon; I want an apology.

If only he took it a bit further to include servicemen & women with less than Honorable discharges for violating military law interracial marriage. Legal since 1967 (Loving vs. Virginia).

    This is a good move and I wholly approve; but it's interesting that Biden (or, really, Biden's admin - Biden's not coming up with this stuff) isn't doing anything that voters are most concerned about. Even his executive order on the border has simply made it easier for immigrants to bypass parole and arrest. It's a pretty good gaslighting attempt, but many are calling out the facts.

    I support this. However, the fact that this wasn’t passed when “don’t ask, don’t tell” was repealed or in the 13 years since it was repealed (mind you, we had a Democratic president for 9 of those years), leaves me to believe the Democratic Party was saving this move for a lackluster Presidential nominee who desperately needs votes in an election year. This is a great example of why the Democratic Party is struggling at uniting their party.

      @@iMatti00 I think if Hilary won and her performance as President was like Bidens, she would’ve been writing the same pardons back in 2020 in hope to buy votes just like he is right now. I think the only reason Obama didn’t is because overturning “don’t ask don’t tell” was a major win for LGBTQ+ for 2011 and he was confident in his 2012 bid. I think the only reason he didn’t pardon in his second term was that he had no idea Hilary would lose to Trump.

      The federal government can walk and chew gum at the same time. Plus, for better or worse pardons are extremely easy to do. And as far as the marine who’s locked up in Russia, that’s his own damn fault. I have sympathy for everybody, but he basically asked for it. There are a couple other people in Russia that did not ask for it, so they should’ve got out.
      And imagine if someone was on death row or anywhere else in prison, and they were going to get out but you had people saying to let them rot in prison because the president needs to be focusing on economic issues. But like I said, the president mainly tell someone what to do, the next person figures out how to do it, comes back with the results, and the president says yes or no. That’s what they do for the most part.

Including losing your military benefits ranging from VA healthcare to maybe even PX use. This simply makes sense. They were targeted by the government for no good reason while in the service of their country. Making our veterans hole is never a waste of time. Maybe for you but not for me. They voluntarily choose to protect my freedoms. Hard stop.
