      right... Its why maddux got so many awards ... smart, efficient pitching and low pitch counts led to complete games. Complete games give the pitcher the ability to control the outcome as well as seeing batters that extra bit to just keep learning how to pitch them. Maddux getting thru the game for a W on fewer pitches than youd throw pitching an immaculate perfect game... Which is 81 pitches all strikes. Maddux proved he could beat perfect perfect LOLcomplete game W on 77 pitches..... hall of fame enshrined performance. he said a true perfect efficiency game is a team effort a 27 pitch no hitter with zero strike outs. 👌

    Nolan Ryan had 7 no-hitters, 222 complete games, highest pitch count in a game was 235. In one season he averaged 134 pitches per start. He pitched into the 10th, 11th and 13th inning (3 different games), and he played for 27 years.
    Now I understand why they took him out, but this whole pitch count thing is ridiculous!! Starting pitchers these days are lucky if they make it into the 5th inning. they must be doing something wrong because even with the pitch count stuff, there still are injuries. I have heard now they are trying to blame the pitch clock on the injuries. And the game today has evolved so much it is crazy. Their warmup routines and exercises and stretches and all that compared to when Ryan retired in 93 you think you help pitchers not get injuries. So my question is, if pitchers are still getting injured with low pitch counts, at what point do you just risk pitching 1-3 more innings? Injuries happed randomly no matter how hard you try to avoid them. Some people are injury prone; some never get hurt. It's just a roll of the dice. Lucky for me, I just post this opinion and don't have to make any decisions, if I did it probably would be wrong lol. But I do like Skenes he is killing it and definitely would hate for him to get injured.

      Also you can make the argument that Ryan's accumulating ways damaged his rate stats. Only 7 of his full seasons did he have an ERA+ over 120, a number plenty of stud pitchers of today with significantly fewer seasons have eclipsed. There's room for debate whether him going deep into games helped his team out that much (beyond minimizing bullpen workload), even though he's still in the GOAT conversation.

    Only 5 rookies in the past 20 years have thrown a no hitter. He was throwing 120+ pitches in college. I get the managers perspective but cmon man, you have an electric rookie. He’s only gonna throw 20-40 pitches in the ASG. Then he’ll get a longer break after that.

    Save his arm by all means. He doesn’t have the lower body strength power pitches need. He’s all upper torso and arm angle

  • @ThatSwiftie3
    @ThatSwiftie3 Před 22 dny

    2 innings won’t ruin his arm. Let him pitch. Especially because he was already at over 90 pitches going into the 7th. If they were going to take him out after 6 pitches, he shouldn’t have gone out for the 7th at all. Once he’s gone out for the 7th inning, you’ve got to let him keep going.

      Skenes is performing much better than Nolan Ryan did in his rookie year. Ryan's rookie season was 1968, the Year of the Pitcher, when he went 6-9 with a 3.09 ERA (98 ERA+, meaning he was average.) Skenes is 6-0 with a 1.90 ERA (215 ERA+, over twice as good as average).
