To be fair, Wilson, the 81 Rockets had a ton of injuries in the regular season which contributed to the record. In reality they had 3 HOFers plus very good players like Mike Dunleavy, criminally underrated Robert Reid who was excellent against Bird, and one of the famous Jones brothers, Major. Allen Leavell stuck around as a role player for quite a while too.
This is also the series where we saw the first big time 3 point shot in a Finals when Bird knocked down what was called at the time "the gutsiest shot of all time".

Forgot the Suns of 1976 who beat two great teams in Golden State and Seattle to meet Boston in the finals (and lose in 6, which of course included a Triple Overtime game)
That 2018 Celtics run is the worst thing that could happen to that team. Tatum just assumed he was a superstar and hasn't stopped bitching at the refs since. Jaylen Brown had the audacity to tell Danny Ainge they were better than the 86 Cs. Kryrie was so butt hurt they were succeeding without him he couldn't wait to bail. And everyone decided Hayward should be a $30m 12th man who didn't deserve a chance to play and get his game back after the injury. This team hasn't recovered, and for the first time in my life I HATE my favorite team, bunch of little bitches with no heart. The fact Tatum wants to be Kyries best friend and went to his celebration party after Brooklyn knocked them out of the playoffs says it all.
This coming from a fan who survived the ML Carr era, the Pitino/Chris Wallace era, and the Ricky Davis years.

@@MNDHMTH in 2019 you mean? Yeah you're absolutely right, Kryrie was miserably bad and gave up on the team, but honestly he had already given up before the All Star break. Least likeable Cs team I had ever seen until the 2021 squad that played down to the competition every single night.
@@MNDHMTH we saw what these kids are made of in the bubble when Miami straight outclassed them. They mentally fell apart when Miami hit them in the jaw and didn't know how to respond. They looked like such losers by Game 4 I had started actively rooting for Miami to win.
Only thing Cs fans hate more than losing is the colors being worn by guys who don't deserve to be part of the fraternity.

Ty Lue was technically a interum head coach in 2016 , the Cavs started the season with David blatt and he was fired right before the all star break and ty lue took over and they won the title that year
So was Pat Riley taking over head coaching duties on the Lakers into 1981-82 by Magic's era leading up to a title.

That's a great one. Very unexpected even as a Boston fan. But the East was also trash, probably worst conference of all time in 2002. All they had to go through was broken Philly with only AI and pre Billups/Hamilton Detroit "lead" by Jerry Stackhouse and still starting Mike Curry.
Yep. 02 east was super weak. That year most people thought the sixers were coming out of the east again. Other picks were the bucks or Hornets. Other than that, who knew the celtics were gonna be that good. And t mac & the magics had no chance. Raptors were average. Pacers were old. People even though the wizards might do something in playoffs lol. pistons, nets & celtics came outta nowhere in 02.
@@peace_of_mind_00 Everyone liked the Bucks in all the preseason magazines because they went and got Anthony Mason from Miami, believing their only weakness in 2001 had been up front (and crooked refs). But Mason had to be ball dominant, or refused not to be, to be at his peak and it turned into a big disaster. Blew the whole thing up.
Philly had lost the magic from the previous year. But they were impossible to beat as the Celtics in 2k on Dreamcast lol
