  • The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative body of the country, consisting of two houses: the Lok Sabha (House of the People) and the Rajya Sabha (Council of States). It is empowered by the Constitution (Articles 79-122) to make laws, enact budgets, and oversee the functioning of the government. The Lok Sabha is directly elected by the people, while the Rajya Sabha members are elected by the elected members of the state legislatures. Parliament has the authority to legislate on matters enumerated in the Union List, concurrent list, and certain matters in the State List. It plays a crucial role in shaping India's laws, policies, and governance through debates, discussions, and deliberations.
