- Here's a video of the Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers animated TV series, which worked on as concept artist and storyboard artist. The Pilot/Demo is from the DVD set . I added in this video early concept art sequences and action scene storyboards done before the show went into full production. Enjoy.
Mr. Woodyard, I’m 50 years young and I can’t tell you how excited I am to be able to thank you. Your work was (is still) a huge inspiration to me. Bless you for all the work you’ve done over the years and for giving me some of my best childhood memories. Thank you 🙏
I always loved that theme song, which now i realize is a bunch of platitudes strung together. And The Goose was my favorite.
This show went so hard! Loved it as little girl! The theme song and animation still blows me away. Doc was my absolute fave.
Just the best cartoon of all times, deserved a closure, wonderful concept, absolute cinema, terrific storyline
One of the best animated cartoon series!!
So coolly drawn, always reminds me of Bionic6...(same Studio?!?)
Childhood memories...
Cool Special!
This and the Thundercats, were two of the most action packed cartoon series of their time. I couldn't WAIT to see the next episode of the Galaxy Rangers. Viewing this, I now have a deeper understanding of their mission. Thanks so much for posting this. No Guts, No Glory!
Thundercats???? Thou speaketh blasphemy! I worked on this classic show! Rangers Ho!
Thundercats???? Thou speaketh blasphemy! I worked on this classic show! Rangers Ho!
I think because I watched some Thundercats episodes on CZcams, the algorithm sent me this video. And I’m glad for it!
@Sinjinator ha! Wait until you see the BEST action animated show of tge 80's.
Hi Dennis you had alot of classic animation shows from the 80's to the early 2000's. Love you your brother khasim.
Thanks, Bro. I remember Chubby saying Galaxy Rangers was the first time she saw my name in the TV credits, and she was so proud. That meant a lot to me to make the family proud. Thanks for yours and their support. Part of my reason for posting these video is an archive for my boys and family to enjoy. Love ya.
😱 I am a huge fan of Galaxy Rangers. It is one of my all-time favorite cartoons. I really appreciate that you decided to share this footage with those of us who haven't had a chance to see it. This show will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for giving the world such a wonderful piece of work.
Loved this series and at this time have Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers Collection Vol 1 & 2 DVD sets. I hope that there is a bluray release in the US and CAN in the future.
I didn't know there was an original storyboard.
This is like archaeology with cartoons. Nico would have loved it.
Thanks. I have more storyboards and art to share. Stay tuned. Please be sure to like and subscribe.
One of my favorite cartoons, everything about it to me was awesome. I wish the series could get re-released with this pilot that brings more to the story, because those older released sets are way too expensive. I'm sad I still haven't been able to get any of the toys
Thanks, for viewing. I'm rather surprised the DVD sets are so scarce, and expensive. The Galaxy Rangers The Collection Vol. 1& 2 by Koch Entertainment, have great packaging and extras. I'll do a video on them soon. The toys are harder to find. I even, only have a Zachery Fox figure, that I found completely by accident in Paris, France. I'll do a video on that, too. Again, thanks, keep watching, like and subscribe. RANGERS...HOO!
This show made me late for school EVERY DAY...I lived across the street from my school
LOL...That's great. Thanks for still being a fan.
@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt Thank YOU for being part of this awesome show! I remember as a kid saying this beats Transformers. THAT'S how good GR was. Animation, designs, story, & incredible music = Total package!
Thanks for the insight into that show. It's still one of my favorite cartoons.
I thought this show was so good. The Theme song is something that I remember even today. Just good stuff. Thank you for posting this
The animation was of such a high quality, and that theme OMG!!!
A few decades ago some wonderful chap was peer sharing this entire series of Voltron, Thundercats, MASK and Centurions. It was the first time I had back-ups of back-ups for my computer, when im long gone my grandkids will still know what great cartoons are, Lol.
No guts no glory...no pain no gain...it's like Sylvester Stallone got an electric guitar and just went WILD ! :D
The background soundtrack is awesome! I used to tape and edit snippets of it... great slide guitar and synth combos ."OneI Million Emotions" is my favorite episode. Tortuna my favorite setting. Sombody should TTRPG this series. Thank you for this! Love your work! You are a massive influence on my art and the show on my Music!
Galaxy ranger had some good soundtrack music. I think plenty available online. Thanks for watching.
Dude I agree! I've been stealing and reconfiguring lore from the series to put in my homebrew setting and I've been LOVING it!
This series was ahead of its time. The animation, the music, the stories... everything was spectacular! Thank you for sharing this incredible material. A big greeting from Chile! ❤👍👍👍
the 80-90 cartoons glory (among silver hawk, thunder cats, saber rider and star sherrif ,etc) when america producers meets japan anime maker, thanks for make my childhood awesome !!! although i lived in the third world country back then
Where did you watch it, and in what language?
@@Sinjinator broadcast by goverment television, we only have one station in late 90s, original languange it use subtitle , i was really strugle to read the sub and watch in the same time (iwas 6 yo), and because of it my English way better than my young fella
Doc really meant a lot to me. Black characters were usually sassy sidekicks or hulking bruisers. Doc was different. He was smart. He worked with *computers*.
Stalker, Alpine, and Doc in GIJoe were great characters too. Even though Roadblock was a “hulking bruiser”.
Thought this show was awesome back in my childhood, good memories. Thank you for sharing!
Sucks that we don't get this quality of cartoons like this in the present day.
What impressed me at the time was the CGI of the computer's interface
If there's ever an 80s show that could use a modern reboot, it's this one. I have always wondered if there is a full-length version of the "Rangers Are Forever" closing theme. The version that played during the credits sounded like it was edited for time.
Thanks for viewing. I could only find to full (?) verison on CZcams. I don't think there's a longer one. czcams.com/video/jtNtF-kitt0/video.htmlsi=6Yr-NjSuAdeeG75E
No guts, no glory. So much unrealized potential...
One of the most 80s 80s cartoons ever. Just might be the most
I love the animation of this series, I would love it if this style made a come back.
My introduction to Jerry Orbach. Do you know how hard it is to watch this when you’re snot-bubble crying tears of joy? Thank you so much for posting this.
I loved this show
wish we could upscale these with AI someday. Would love to watch all of these again!
Johnny Vancouver sings that song No Guts No Glory Song
Thanks for info. The Galaxy Ranger theme is one of the best cartoon opening songs ever. Here's a funny bit, I just remembered. The producers want to give the Ranger a signature call out, like "Thundercats Hoo!" and GI Joe's "GO, JOES!", it's in the show's script, but because they (stupidly) recorded the dialog to match the animation, instead of the proper way, the animation action was too short and clipped to get a dramatic take. I'll have to find it and do a short video of it. Thanks for watching.
@@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt cool that part I didnt know
@@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt There were a few instances where I recall Zachary calls out "Rangers Ho!!" and I thought Steve Overland sang not only "No Guts, No Glory", but also the end titles song, "Rangers Are Forever". Videos with his name on them are all over youtube.
So many of these shows gave hints to what's going on in Solar Wardon! 😂
remember the cartoon g-force that was my favorite cartoon back then in the 3 channels analog days
One of my favorites!
never heard of this. i like that art style. sort of Robotech-y crossed-- with what the heck was that show with-- oh Battle of the Planets
I remember this one of many short term Saturday morning productions.
Esta es una de las más hermosas series animadas de los 80🤩🤗y con uno de los mejores opening/ending que se han hecho y harán 😎!!!
Back in the day I wanted to see The Galaxy Rangers vs Bionic Six cross over!
Wow captain kid had a very different voice in the pilot.
Such a good show. I hope figures are made for them.
Thanks for viewing. There were Galaxy Rangers figures made, and released for the original series run, in the 80s, but weren't wider sold in the US. I only have a Zachary Fox figure I found accidentally in Paris, France. There suppused to be new figures made in 2006, with the release of the Collection set Vol. 1 & 2, but they were never produced. Thanks, again, for watching.
They were available in Brazil 88-89.
Frikin Awesome Show!
I miss the 1980's Japanese animation. We've lost so much with computer animation.
in spañish they were called "guardians of galaxy" so when was release the marvel movie I sang "No guts, No glory"
🎉🎉🎉 HEY DENNIS! David "Doc" Rosler, here. How have you been, Ranger Brother? ❤❤❤
Hi, David. Hope life is treating you well.Let me know what you're up to. I'm planning a "Then & Now video of the art staff. Look for my Dennis J. Woodyard - Journeyman Artist on Facebook: facebook.com/djwjourneymanartist/
@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt hey. When people ask me what project was the most fun, I always say it was GR. A frat house where many of us got to go in every day and get paid for playing Alfed Hitchcock and creature designers and see our work followed to the letter by the animators in Japan; jobs don't get more fun then that in your 20's.
I've gone full-on Christian movie in recent years; trying to bring some peace into the world while playing autuer in a genre with mind-blowing ROI at the theaters. CZcams doesn't allow links but if you Google "godsarmored" and the usual period followed by the usual c word, there is the one finishing up now plus a link to the studio. Be interested in what you think. Then you can tell me YOUR life story!
If you look at my older career reel, I still list GR. It's now regarded by anime fans as a cult classic. Re-watching a couple of the episodes after all these years, it plays much stronger. Things are never good enough in the artists eyes when done. It takes years to step away and see it clearly, pro and con.
I will never forget my eccentric plywood desk and when David Gregg came up to me with a shiny new drawing table in a box, I refused to allow it. I started at that silly plywood desk and came to love it for its absolutely outrageous eccentricity! Fun, fun, fun!
You can slo look up my name with the usual period and c word. My personal spot, not my studio.
I wrote a script too late for GR that Robert accepted for the never-seen season 2. The rangers are assigned to keep the peace on a planet where the ants were evolved to smallish human size and intelligent, standing on their back two legs with the front legs evolved into arms. It's the first- ever peace negotiation between the red ants and the black ants, which have a chemically-induced obligatory hate response to each other like red and black ants on earth, and things get hectic when it turns out Niko tries to read the mind of the red ant and discovers it's a robot fitted with a nuclear bomb. I still remember the end, mostly, as the Rangers are flying away in the pheonix to their next adventure.
NIKO: The ******? are an iconography-oriented society. I wonder what kind of statue they'll build to honor (black ant name forgotten), the one who saved their race?"
ZACH:"I don't know, but whatever it's made of, it won't be red or black."
Pretty heavy-handed anti-racist messaging, but I am a heavy-handed writer by nature, LOL. At this point in life, there's no logic to being cute about the fact!
I'll never forget the day when you led a few of the guys, names withheld, out the door and I asked where you were going. You said, "to see Citizen Kane." Our lanky, funny guy said, " Yeah. Dennis is taking us to learn cinema." I WAS MORTIFIED, LOL! But the show turned out great anyway. Thank you for that.
Hailing frequencies are open, Dennis. Maintain subspace contact!
@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt I wrote you a book reply and youtube is not allowing it. Sick tyrants. Can't write it again. Shrug. Hope all is well.
@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt I was happily reminiscing about good times and it's all gone. If you want to know where I'm at, just Google my name with the word studios. When you see the guy with the same cat in my avatar, that's me.
With your pencil work, i assume the japanese studios have some kind of creative liberities with composition of shots, adding their own flare and dynamics to it, though still following your boards in terms of direction and setup
Believe when I say, the success (?) of the Rangers was largely the result of the masterful, and talented hard work the TMS animation studio. I feel eternally indebted to them.
Captain Kidd and Shane Gooseman sound odd and Zachary Foxx was definitely not Jerry Orbach. Man, I loved this show as a teen especially the SuperTrooper episodes, One Million Emotions, Armada, etc. it’s cool to see the evolution of Goose as a concept to spotlighted in SuperTrooper.
This show deserved so much better merchandising and toys back in the day. I’ll take a life size Niko today 😂
It's possible the actors on the demo, were not the final actors used of the series. I wasn't involved in the aspect of the production. That is not unusual. Thanks for viewing.
Need a reboot.
@10:20...I thought the Goose was the copy of the motorcycle police officer with the same name in Mad Max..
Goose was definitely based on Clint Eastwood's "man with no name" character from his westerns like Fist Full of Dollars. Thanks for viewing.
@@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt oh yeah...the original Goose.
And you're welcome, keep up the good work 👍💙💯
so cool
It sounds like Voltron.
What Japanese studio worked on this?
TMS.
@@DennisWoodyard-DragonflyEnt Ah, yeah, thank you.
Tokyo Movie Shinsa (TMS) This was One of the greatest animated series of all time.
joe Walsh song analog man ha ha ha ha
