What You Won't Do for Love is a timeless classic song
That song will never grow old
Love that song. Grew up listening to that song. Good job Bobby.
Check out Jamaica live version. Great song I been a fan since the 70 s I knew he was white back then.
Crazy trivia: he wrote it at the last minute to complete his first album. It was a rush job, taking less than a half-hour, a Hail Mary. Amazing...
My goodness always thought a Brother had been cooning that great song.
Rest in Peace my Brother, sorry you had to suffer so much.
Boz Scaggs is another blue eyed soul artist who should be checked out. “Lowdown” is one of his best known songs that people thought a black person sang.
I never thought he was black but I always thought that beat was on the verge of funkiness. Dope to this day.
Yes, Boz is a problem lol!
That's my jam!
Nobody thought Boz Scaggs was Black. Lowdown just had a rhythm that most Black people can groove to. If you believe that crap, then you might as well say people thought Michael McDonald was Black too
Yes indeed
RIP Bobby Caldwell, your music lives on 🥺😞💔🕊️
Before robin Thicke and the rest, bobby Caldwell was one of the artists that opened the doors for most of the white r&b artists
Self taught
Also during that time, Hall& Oates, Teena Marie and Boz Scaggs were breaking ground contributing to R&B/Soul. All great artists
Black artists opened the door for so-called “blue-eyed” soul singers.
@@DiabolikalFollikles true facts i forgot to mention that as well lol
Don't forget Denise Fontana- " Merry Christmas All"😅
He along with Tina Marie were incredible blue eyed R&B singers. Soley missed. Rest in peace, god bless Jesus Christ. 🕊️✝️
Michael McDonald too.
@@KoTM25681 Agreed.
Teena Marie is the Ivory Queen of Soul.
They give Bobby the wrong medicine hell no💔😢🙏🏽🕊 i pray his wife get justice from Hospital or clinic dammm bobby we love you forever
RIP. He was one of my favorites! What You Won’t Do For Love is one of my favorite albums. It just has this magical loving quality that makes you feel nostalgic, even if you weren’t born in the 70s. Bobby didn’t use black culture for personal gain, he respected the craft and gave back to Soul and Funk.
Best album I've found so far: Perfect Island Nights, every song is a winner in Bobby's distinctive style.
Rest in peace to Bobby Caldwell
I just had to pull over for this one! That's how addicted I am to this channel! Thanks for this new episode & RIP Bobby Caldwell! 🕊🕊🕊
Thanks for sharing
Rest in peace to Mr. Bobby Caldwell.
Love your music Bobby. Great music you have made. Thank you
R.I.P. Bobby Caldwell
Bobby Caldwell, Michael McDonald, Michael Bolton, Dusty Springfield, Lisa Stansfield, Teena Marie, Harry Casey, Steve Winwood, Taylor Dayne makes up the genre for blue eyed soul.
Don't forget Phoebe Snow!
@@MD-DLive yeah also The Righteous Brothers and Hall and Oates.
Gino Vanellie too
Dan Hartman
Sheena Easton
The Bee Gees
@@justanadams9430 Dan Hartman I've never heard of but Sheena Easton and The Bee Gees yeah along with Average White Band.
Thank you for this. Since his passing, I have been watching all of his concert footage. Man his shows were excellent and he had some outstanding musicians backing him up. He was a wonderful crooner
His voice was butter!
He was also awarded a black new comer award back in 1979 no one had seen his photograph. He was close friends with Natalie Cole
At this point I literally say along with you, "they need a movie or a documentary about them.." 😂😂😂 CU wants everyone to get their flowers and I love it! This is such a sad story and as someone who has had allergies to alot of medications (antibiotics too) I'm definitely going to be more aware from now on.. I hate he had to suffer at the end of his life for so long but I pray he's in the heavens serenading them with his beautiful gift... Rest in peace... Job well done. ❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
For sure ❤
Thank you Father God for giving talent to your children of All colors.❤
I just found out he was white like 3 years ago. Sad to hear that he passed. Made a REAL ALL TIME CLASSIC. 💯❤. That track will keep being sampled forever🎷🙏🏾🙏🏾GBNF
I didn't even know he JUST passed away. "What You Won't Do For Love" is my JAM! Tupac's remake is a banger too! RIP Bobby Caldwell.
I didn't know anyone whom I hung out with that didn't like Bobby Caldwell's music. Everyone in the neighborhood was playing his stuff. Sad he's gone, he will be missed.
I DID NOT KNOW HE WAS CAUCASIAN. I THOUGHT IT WAS SO COOL WHEN MONTEL JORDAN PERFORMED "DO FOR LOVE" ON "NEW YORK UNDERCOVER"
I must say New York Undercover had the best music🔥🔥🔥
I didnt know he died from antibiotics. I've taken that b4 for a bad UTI. RIP Bobby Caldwell. I love your videos. Thank you
Wow, me too. 😢
Thank you for covering his story....RIP🙏🏽🕊
Oh the scream I let out. Love this man's music.
I thought Bobby Caldwell was a brotha singing “What you won’t do for Love” Thanx CU for bringing the knowledge💯 RIP 🕊️ Bobby Caldwell
I'm a Music JUNKIE,and all I can say is BUY his Albums. His Shit is ICONIC,and his music, arrangements, and Melodies will have you JONZIN'! I Guarantee you. P.S. I miss him like CRAZY Man.
Yes, his catalog is A1. I remember just letting his playlist run on my Tidal app. I was shocked at what I’d been missing. Needless to say, it stayed on repeat.
@@GoldenGraham25 Bobby was, and still is a Baaaaad Dude. They way he makes that Guitar Hum, you gotta give him his Props.
Great bio job. Chuck full of amazing info..thanks..
As young as I am, I discovered him 2018 because of my parents...he produced amazing amazing music🔥🔥🔥
That whole song is a vibe those horns are the icing on the cake ❤
“My Flame” is still🔥
The ending is beyond sad. This man was in so much pain all over a doctor who gave him the wrong meds.
I grew up on this song. I was so sad to hear about his passing. I would catch him performing in the late 90s and early 2000s at a lot of smooth jazz festivals. 😢 R.I.P Bobby Caldwell.
A lot of rap songs would not exist if it wasn't for this man.

Respect In Peace To The Legendary Mr. Bobby Caldwell.
I remember the dr. put my mom on antibiotics. When she was taking the meds, she started feeling more fatigued, experiencing vertigo, frequent nose bleeds, daily chills, and her blood pressure was getting lower and lower. Needless to say the doctor had prescribed the wrong medication!!...This is just another reason I don't trust doctors.
I feel a Tina Turner story is next 😢
Ikr....these "professionals" are something else sometimes. And you know Tina most likely will be next.
I hope he does that story too

I saw Bobby perform in 2017 at a jazz club in LA and he was definitely in a lot of pain and you could tell. Didn’t stop him from putting on a great show, such a talented person. RIP
Ty for covering Bobby. I loved him forever.
Great story on Bobby Caldwell
His song will never, ever get old. RIP
Kudos to his WIFE! Blue Eye Genius Rest In Paradise. Can't help but notice the gold 🔺 on his coat in the last picture as well as the 6 yrs 2 months of pain made public his wife. 6×2= 12 1+2 =3.....smh. Great work Ty❤❤❤
I might be mistaken, but think he was a drummer for Captain Beyond too.. completely different music.
I see what you did there.
Bobby was extremely Talented. And i can't believe hes long Gone R.I.P to him.
RIP Mr.Caldwell ❤️🙏🏾❤️
Thx for covering his story love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥 rip 🕊️
The definition of blue eyed soul. What you won't do is my song. May he rest in peace can you do Tina Turner since she's passed on
Can't wait for more of Accidential Demise stories
And Lisa Stansfield
A very sad ending for someone who brought so much joy into this world. No more pain. Rest In Peace. Your voice and music will live on in the hearts of those listened and heard.
I am shocked and saddened to hear this for the first time! he was one of my favorites! I'm from Cleveland and I saw he, and Natalie Cole there. I accidently walked in on a warm-up rehearsel at the old "Front Row Theater" I thought someone was playing his tune "What You won't do for love" on the intercom, but it was really he and his group, It sounded so much like the CD I was amazed! They never stopped singing even through my interruption, I told my sister who was there at the show with me, it was a meet and greet with the artist show, which at the time Boney James was his sax man before he left the group. That was a great show! but i've always known that Bobby was White, which was no big deal to me! R.I.P Bobby, won't be forgotten!
I just started listening to his music and he has a beautiful soulful voice. RIP Bobby 🕊your music will always live on.
REST WELL BOBBY CALDWELL THX 4 SHARING UR GIFT WITH WORLD 😢❤
Great commentary on this brother. I loved Bobby Caldwell. RIP and thank you for this bio!
Never Give Up is my track for that 80s nostalgic sound but great vocals.
Rip Beautiful Talented King Bobby. We Will Never Forget Your Beautiful Singing Voice ❤. My Son Tyrone Loves Your Song What You Won't Do For Love ❤ Thank You ❤
I cant believe how he died. just terrible 😕 RIP Bobby ❤
My brother introduced me to Boz Scaggs and I always thought he was white because he reminded me of Boz Scaggs. Then to hear you say he and Boz were label mates sealed the deal for me. RIP Bobby Caldwell ❤️❤️🥰🥰
So very sad,the last few years of his life
The first time I heard the song "What you won't do for love" it awoke something in my soul. I was raised by a baby boomer that loved music, no matter what genre it was, what year the debut, I listened to it growing up. From The Jubalaires, Nat King Cole, Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, Boston, George Benson, Bill Withers, Al Green, and then to any and all other genres. Bobby hit me deep down and it hurts to hear his music and think of how his end came.
Boz Scaggs is who I believe you meant. Damn, it's sad how Bobby went out. Talented way beyond the WYWDFL song. Always thought he was a black male singer as well. Thanks for another good one, CU!
R.I.P. Bobby Caldwell, I love your music. Thank you so much for posting.
Manythnx!
I'm so happy you covered Bobby Caldwell's story I had to watch it twice . I love a great story . You are one of a kind sir with your story telling . Bobby was definitely one of my faves . He will truly be missed ❣️
Rip. I like that its over song as well
I wrote Bobby a letter and his wife Mary responded and then corresponded with me and told me about Bobby being "Floxxed". He was a very gifted guy and was just a pure talent. It was heart breaking. Dude didnt have a mean or nasty bone in his body...
He was so amazing rip

First to comment. You did a great job on telling this story about this wonderful soulful icon. He was definitely one of the greatest! R.I.P. Mr. Bobby Caldwell. Rest easy, brotha.
I love Bobby Caldwell. I knew he was white, but definitely, What You Won't Do for Love was my favorite. What I did not know was how he died. Thank you so much for telling his story.🙏🏽💖
Thank you for telling Bobby's story. What an amazing career he had. When he died, all I can remember him by was his song "What You Won't Do For Love". Like many others I too was shocked by the fact that he was white. But even still he made some really good music and for that, I thank him for his contributions to the industry.
RIP BOBBY CALDWELL. YOUR SONG "Do for love" is one of my all time favorites!!! You are TOTALLY missed😢
Bobby Caldwell was one of the greatest. One of a kind.
WOW!!! I never knew that and I always do my own research on those medicine's
I see celebrity underated I click. Keep doing great things 👊🏾💯
I love the way you tell your stories. Thank you for this as well as all your other episodes 😊‼️🫶🏾🙌🏽
I remember hearing the song What you won"t do for love!! I was 10 years old and fell in love with it! I saw him years later and he was white! It didn't matter! He had a lot of hits! He was soft spoken, talented, and sexy! He was just a phenomenon! Very intelligent! Yes, lots of artist sampled his work!! That comes to show the love he got! I was so sorry to hear how he passed away! I heard his wife talk about the sad way he dealt with his illness! She mentioned how romantic he was! A great man! She teared up on all the love Bobby received from his peers and everyone!! Those antibiotics can be dangerous! I work in healthcare! There's lots of side effects to a lot of them! Do your research and ask your doctor or pharmacist about the side effects! I'm sorry he went out like that!!! He will be missed!! Thanks for your content! I love it! 😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I went to his show in Miami in 1980. Wild Cherry was his back up band. Bobby kept walking past me and I completely ignored him because I was drunk, lol. I loved his music and wish I could do that night over again.
This was SO good! You did a great job on his story! You, along with his wife, should write that book and spearhead a movie about his life. That would be phenomenal!
RIP Bobby Caldwell
Thanks for posting. Bobby was my favorite singer and I'm still in disbelief that he's gone.
So sorry to hear and you did a good job sir covering Bobby’s story thank you ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for Bobby's story; it needed to be told. What a great artist. I wish I had known him.
I have to hand it to you for one of the most comprehensive and honest documentaries about Bobby that I have seen! I have been a huge fan of his since I got the very first album that he ever came out with! I have seen him in concert timesincluding a chance to see him backstage in the 90s in his heyday! I got to see him April 20 2018 in Boca Raton, and I have many video clips from that concert! He was brilliant as always, and I met with him in the green room afterwards! He was so gracious that he signed my Fender Jazz bass and the pick guard with the inscription “What you won’t do for love, Bobby Caldwell” what an amazing tribute, and I believe that this was probably one of if not the last concert he ever did!
The R&B group "Champaign" and "Average White Band" should definitely the list as well. Great document; thank you!
Hey..have you ever did a segment on George Dukes? I would like to see his amazing musical history! Bobby has always made a huge impact on the
R & B industry!,
I was caught completely by surprise when I heard the news that Bobby Caldwell had passed.
The last time I went to his live performance, his leaving us never crossed my mind.
RIP, Bobby Caldwell
