The version in Studio was in my bottom, but when I saw it in Live, it made me feel in trance the whole time. The backstage of the song is so powerful: is a song dedicated to her nanny (Carmen), a NANA, when little Blanca listening when she go to sleep Every night as a kid. After that, she makes an ancestral ritual of empowering Women, the matriarchs. The origins of the Earth. The red lights in the second part are the Beats of the Heart of her grandmother. The electronic base is soooo modern, and makes a flamenco vibe became so actual. The past and the future in 3 minutes. PURE art, a masterpiece, a full pack designed by her, with absolutely no mistakes. We deserve to win after 60 years this competition with EAEA. 🙌🙌

EAEA is a flamenco lullaby. EAEA is an onomatopoeia that Spanish mothers do to calm their children while they are crying. The song tells the story of a mother who wants to be buried in the moon when she dies to see her child every night except one (the new moon day). The red strings of the staging are very typical in the Spanish flamenco costumes. Also the song has references to the poems of Federico Garcia Lorca, one of the most important poets of Spain. This is the most Spanish entry we ever had and we are so proud of her.

The hand dance that she does is a one of the traditionals flamenco's movements (flamenco dancing is very corporal with the arms and legs). Usually, when a flamenco person does it says "ole" and it's a way to cheer on when someone is dancing or singing, currently flamenco or similar new flamenco genres. Flamenco's voice is very stong and her voice is strong, amazing and sweet. I'm proud that Blanca represents my country this year.

I think in eurovision there are two kind of songs: the ones that people are going to immediately add to their playlist and listen on repeat for weeks, and the ones that are made to be listened once and in a full performance and package. I think it's the case of SloMo and especially this song, with the performance it starts making a lot of sense!
Btw I'm glad that you had fun in Benidorm, you are always welcome to Spain! And thanks for your reaction 🥰

Get ready because this year Spain will be the dark horse of the final. Considering that no one considered her in their bets and everyone is mesmerized after seeing her performance, it will not be until the last week that we will begin to be considered a real country to beat. With the revamp of the staging, elevating everything as the Chanel team once did, we will serve the guilty pleasure of Europe. I bet next year Sweeden will offer a place to Artiz and his fake flamenco for tourists at Melodyfestivalen due Blanca’s success 😂

Blanca Paloma has a powerful voice and is faithful to traditional flamenco combined with some electronic beats. She sings a lullaby learnt from her grandma. Some singers have achieved success combining flamenco with rock or reggaeton , like Rosalía or Enrique Morente. If you like to listen new flamenco, Omega is one of the best albums. It links rock, some of the most famous flamenco's artists (Enrique Morente, Vicente Amigo...), Federico García Lorca's poems and Leonard Cohen's songs: an extraordinary album. Thank you for your exciting comments.

  • @BeatrizCabelloLaSonrisaDeBety

Hi! Spanish girl and the movement explanation. It´s used in tablaos (places where flamenco´s danced). They use it to cheer the boy/girl who is dancing and it´s like a dance step too. Flamenco is really passionate and it has a lot of different rythms (bulerías, alegrías...), that´s because it´s necessary to point the rythm with claps and these movements. Zapateao (feet steps) has to be precise with the instruments and the claps. We sometimes use that movement to emphasize our sentences or to say something beautiful to someone. We´re very expresive people ahahahah 🤣🤣 So proud to bring flamenco to Eurovision! And also a beautiful ode to our mothers and grandmothers.

Spain to the power of 10.
The song itself (music, singing, clapping) is a bulería, kind of a specific 'subgenere' of flamenco with a modern twist of an electronic beat.
The topic and the lyrics come from the POV of a woman singing a lullaby, trying to put her crying baby to sleep ('Eaea' is a cooing sound in Spain)
The performance and staging are the ones of a ritual, summoning her ancestors. Specially her late grandma, wich this song is inspired by and dedicated to, because she taught and used to sing flamenco and lullabies to her.
The repetitive pattern of the beat, backing vocals and rythmic clapping are intended to be entrancing and hypnotizing for connecting with the energy of the experience. Her hand movements work as a praise and a calling to the above.
The red threads are a reference to the fringes of a traditional 'mantón' (shawl) simbolizing protection, motherhood, in fact she said it could be seen sort of womb-shaped. Actually she worked as a costume and stage set designer, as she did here too.
The white circle represents the moon, where, as the lyrics say, she wants to be buried in when she dies, so she will be able to watch over her child everynight but one ('newmoon')
First she kneels looking up, later she kneels again looking downwards, always with a reaching hand.
Then she shoots a flaming arrow and lights it on fire (red pulsing light, heartbeat, blood, death) Finally the priestess gets on the shrine to end the ritual in ecstasy.

Chanel was amazing, but here comes Blanca Paloma not to play, just to slay, I wish Blanca take that mic home finally 🥲

Exactly! People can evaluate each song as it comes up in a positive or negative way but it`s beyond logic and reasoning to assume at this point with 7/8??? songs out that one song is the Eurovision winner.

To the spaniards on the comments: we're seeing that many eurofans from other European countries are literally hating this song and this Andalusian folklore performance. As a spaniard, I already knew this could be a risky choice because even in Spain flamenco culture is minority (despite the cliché outside). But I can appreciate this performance as a piece of authentic art and I feel so sad when I read comments like "this is pure noise" "irritating" "screaming" "horrible" "direct to the bottom", etc. I mean, is it that bad? Have we done wrong by voting for her instead of other contestants at BenFest? I think the rest were more like commercial / generic options, likely compared to others in ESC. We wanted to send something special, elegant, authentic against the modern mainstream dynamics and it seems Europe wants exactly modern mainstream dynamics :D :(

@@TheBalkanGuy Yeah! Absolutely. I see that 95% of the reactions of non-Spanish people love it and it catches them. Logically, each person has their personal taste in music and there are people who don't like it. There are still many countries to hear and see, it's too soon, but I'm very happy to see that Blanca Paloma's EAEA likes it and awakens emotions within them, which makes me not care about the final position. It is marvelous that people feel within them the musical spectacle staged and the gesturing performance and something lights up inside them. ✌🏼🕊️

Um.....remember how well France did last year when they delved too deep into their regional ethnicities? France chose Breton again and just like the previous time they did with Dewanit Bugale they came bottom of the pile.
This is pure Flamenco, which is not representative of all Spain but more centric around Valencia, Seville and Granada. Not all of Spain would identify with this genre just as we Brits not identify hugely with a song sung in Cymraeg.. Spain has tried Flamenco a couple of times before, notably the disaster ¿Quien Maneja mi Barca? (Who stole my boat?) In 1983. I really wanted Spain to go one better this year but it's not going to do it. It's a good advert for parts of Spanish culture but lacks universal appeal.

    • @carcoma1367
      @carcoma1367 Před rokem

I'm from Valencia. This is not part of our folklore, I must say. Flamenco is Andalusia's folklore (south and specially from the gypsy community) and some of them perform it in the rest of the territory but it's seen like something exotic, as you can see it being from the UK (flamenco=whole Spain is an European cliché). There have been several controversial discussions in Spain about sending this to ESC because even in Spain most part of the people don't relate to flamenco, even though they can appreciate it . And we think European public can get hypnothized or irritated by this song. At least it is not a generic / commercial modern song. I don't know, risky decision. This performance is still an appreciated piece of art by the majority public here and we'll support despite the results. (sorry for my english;)

I am Spanish and this is really unfair.
Last year Tanxugueiras were chosen by the audience as the winners but because they were Galician and Chanel was hot "Spaniard-Latin vibes" ...they sent her instead.
    These girls: czcams.com/video/4uGN9efcACw/video.html
They sing in Galician but it's not that trendy as Flamenco or Latino music, right?
And now Blanca Paloma that sings Flamenco is the chosen one.
    Rising the stereotype of Spain=Flamenco.
Im way beyond tired of that.
Our folklore is way richer than that.
We are more than Flamenco and it really pisses lots of us off.
