The film is jointly produced by Suresh Balaje and Rajkumar Sethupathi. It stars Kamal Haasan and Gautami reprising the respective roles played by Mohanlal and Meena in the original. Papanasam is about, Kamal Haasan, a school drop-out but an intelligent man, acquires knowledge by watching movies. When a dark incident seems to ruin his family, he uses all his wits to protect them.

Both Mohanlal & Kamal sir had nailed it. Being a fan of Kamal sir since childhood, this is proof why he is such a great actor. Indeed it is a remake, but the authenticity to have a distinct flavor is the man's touch. Felt like an original. Hope there is Papanaasam 2. Lalettan was undeniably awesome as well with his subtle acting

Why? Tamilnadu people would benefit if at least he become a MLA or MP. Then, of course we would miss all his new movies. If he continues acting, all his fans around the world will get a treat of entertainment. If he becomes a full time politician, only Tamilnadu people would benefit.
