    Awesome love how you stayed with same beat to be able to clearly hear difference..I'm hoping to see in the description which ones have the strings/snare ..I want to get one and not sure which yet..I'm a 60 year old woman who has wanted to play drums since elementary school but always thought it was a man's world. I play guitar and beat around on other objects so time to get a cajon! My dad played the bongos so I got my love for percussion from him

    My daughter and i have been looking at splitting the cost of a cajon (because we are poor). I've been looking at our local music stores and watching a ton of videos online. Your videos by far have been the most useful and informative! Thanks for doing these! Of everything I've listened to from many different brands, I'm always blown away by the sound of the Meinl Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon! The kick on it is crazy low and the snare sounds about the closest to a snare drum while still having that low kick. I think we're gonna try to get one of those! Thanks for putting this out! Very helpful!

    All these cajons have one issue in common which is that there is not much separation between bass and snare sound. I do not want to hear any snare or string sound when I play the bass section.

    • @samloose7526
      @samloose7526 Před 6 měsíci +6

      I think that might just be the way he is playing it. On most cajons, you can typically achieve that ‘single bass’ sound by slapping in the centre of the drum. In all his playing, he is slapping the upper portion where you will probably hear a little snare interference.

    Great selection - I was torn between the Subwoofer as I love the bass tones and the Artisan Cantina Walnut which had good bass and was nice and punchy. Probably the latter had the edge, though I felt the subwoofer would be better for some applications. The only thing that may have made a difference would have been the sounds of the sides....

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  Před 3 lety +8

      The sides are quite good but for sure the Cantina has more volume and higher tone. The subwoofer has a deeper bass and a snare sound more more Like a drum kit, If this is what you are looking for, let me know 🙏

    The Brazilian ironwood model that you finished with was hands down much more dynamic. It had a really clean and low bass tone without the snare interference, yet the high end had a really nice balance of wire and tone...I would have liked to have voted for the SUBCAJ5WN as that is the model I own. I've always played my djembe, but I purchased a cajon a couple years ago and tonight I told myself that it's time to get down with this thing. So, I recorded some acoustic guitar on my soundboard, hooked up a condenser mic on the port, and I am going to get after it with this crazy wooden crate that's been collecting dust in my studio. Your videos are awesome, brother. Just got turned onto your channel tonight and you're going to help me through this. I'll shoot you a clip, but right now we aren't even playing the same sport. Thank you for your extremely informative videos! I am a percussionist who has played hand drums for a long time, but have just recently started using a friend's entry level cajon when I perform in a duo. Primarily I play the Bugaraboo (a west African hand drum) and other small percussion. My band mate plays guitar and is a vocalist. We play blues, soft rock, some country, some originals, basically eclectic music. We play in restaurants and bars that do not want loud music, so we need to keep our volume down. Most of the time I do not use a mic. We want to incorporate the Cajon into more of our songs and I would like to upgrade to a professional level cajon and have narrowed my interest down to 3 choices, but can use some help in making my final decision. My order of preferance is: the Artisan Cantina Line Walnut, the Artisan Cantina Line Limba and the Artisan Buleria LIne Lava Burl. I am not sure if I like the feature of the port in the front of the Cajon on the Limba drum. Any insights you could provide, or a different drum you would recommend I consider for my needs, would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    • @cynvision

      I keep wanting a front port since I'd be playing at campfires. My brain wants to say outdoors is its own requirement vs a cafe with walls to bounce the sound back. But I've been told bass lacks direction in home theater setups. The subwoofer can go "anywhere" within reason and be useful.

    You have done a excellent job👏🏻. I like in this order based on what you played.
    1. SUBWOOFER SERIES WALNUT - SUBCAJ5WN (excellent soft bass compared to others)
    2. ARTISAN CANTINA LINE LIMBA - AECLLI (good bass with treble)
    3. ARTISAN CANTINA LINE WALNUT - AECLWN (good bass with treble)
    4. VIVARHYTHM SNARE CAJON-VR-CAJ-SO (moderate bass with deep treble)
    I am looking to buy one. I just got a question - does SUBWOOFER SERIES WALNUT - SUBCAJ5WN has bass adjustment to adjust the depth of the bass.
    Also can you suggest Cajon drums which has excellent bass adjustment so I can show bass variation between songs. Looking for the best Cajon which produces *SOFT BASS*

I just saw on Sweetwater that there is a new Minera Line Limba cajon that looks the same as the Tango line but more ply’s, more wires and a different sound hole placement. Can’t seem to find a side by side comparison of the two though. Would love to hear your thoughts Felipe on how these two might compare. I listened to this many time and decided on the cantina walnut, but my god it took like 5 or 6 months to receive since it was back order. In the mean time I got the subwoofer cajon which sounds quite nice and does the job. I like that the bass is so deep, you don't have to reach down very far to get enough bass. Cantina is awesome, but for my style acoustic rock, the subwoofer gets the job done recording wise.

    Hi! I would love for some advice. I really enjoy the 'softer/deeper' sound of the jam series baltic birch. However, I wonder if there is a cajon with a similar sound that is taller, so you don't have to bend over as much? Thank you!

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  Před rokem

      Hi Matthew, the Jam cajon is the smaller cajon from the SnareCraft series. There are 3 sizes, the Jam 35cm, the medium 45cm and the big one 52cm. All are made in the same way. Watch my review of the SnareCraft cajon in the reviews section here on my channel, and let me know what do you think 😉

    Good day to you sir.
    I just have a quick question, one that I think you would have a good informed opinion on - do you think the travel Cajons are good ? The ones that go around your shoulders?
    I have quite a small car and I think a full size Cajon is a little too big for my to tiny boot, but the medium sized travel ones look about right....The only thing is, are they good sound wise?
    Kind regards

    I own the Meinl Cantiña, the Meinl Seguiriya, and Pepote Profesional (Meinl’s version is called the Martinete). Each has a unique voice. The Cantiña can’t be beat for a great balance of deep bass and snap of the corner slaps. The Seguiriya is the BEST sounding corner slaps, hands down-nothing can compare to it. The Pepote Profesional is the top of the line, and it has the looks to outclass any other cajon-the wires require a bit of breaking in and I’m still trying to dial in its best tone. It is much lighter in weight compared to the other two, and its resonant pitch is slightly higher than the Seguiriya, which is odd because its dimensions are supposedly larger. Given time and tlc I think the Pepote will sound even better than the other two. But I’m not selling the other two-they sound awesome too.
    In a flamenco cuadro onstage, I found that the Cantiña holds its own with one dancer. When miked, the Seguiriya is pure and articulate and can compete with several dancers. We’re talking hardcore flamenco dancers. I have yet to test the Profesional onstage with flamenco dancers-it is not as loud as the Cantiña but it is starting to warm up to a nice snappy tone with a decent bottom.

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  Před 3 lety +1

      This is the sound of the snare, I don't think it's looser but maybe you get the this impression because of the bass on it, the sound changes depending of the room/place you are playing. It's not possible to tighten up, it comes like that.
