what fun! i have been wanting a gelli plate for a long time, and was planning to make one so I could afford a cookie-sheet sized one.
That’s exciting! Let me know how it goes 😀 I’ve never made my own, but it looks simple enough on the CZcams vids! 😂 thanks for watching, I’m a little obsessed with this creative process right now 😘
The magazines are working for me. I was trying from my own photos from ink jet printer. Thenks for the demo
That's great, the inkjet prints don't work so well, laser prints are the best! Cheers Froyle
VERY... very nice! Have to try this one! Thank you! (:
Sorry I only just saw your message, have fun with this technique, it's awesome! Cheers Froyle
Wow that's awesome
So much fun! 😘👍🏼
You are so Nice
Thank you !!
Thanks so much!😘 Cheers Froyle
Ooo love this I have just the magazine
Woop woop!!!
So very exciting!!!
What gets on my nerves the most about image transfer is that I don't know _why_ sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I thought I now knew which colors could be pulled well from my self-cast gel plate, I knew how thick or how thin I had to apply the color, I knew how to process a photo for contrast and that I was printing in color or that this or that magazine would work. And then it works flawlessly. But there are days when I do everything exactly the same way, and not a single transfer print succeeds. It's maddening.
Oh yes magazine image transfers can be so darn painful! I agree entirely! That's why I like working with laser prints, I have found magazines to be very frustrating! cheers Froyle
I noticed some you let dry (how long does that take) and some you put paper over the wet paint right away. I love your transfers! Thank you for showing us how to do this. I made a plate last night and am going to try it out today!
It depends on your weather & how thick your paint is, but only a few minutes to dry, all the best, cheers Froyle
@@FroyleArt thank you!
Cook. Like it. Didn’t work for me but i river if i didn’t leave the colour long enough to dry
Magazines can be a little tricky! All the best, cheers Froyle
So I'm new to gel print pulls. When your doing the magazine pulls do you always have to use the black for the image? I'm confused sorry.
You don’t have to use black but I have found dark colours do show the detail more 😘 cheers Froyle
So cool! What type of paper do you use to pull the print?
I love to use Chinese rice paper, I also use standard copy paper & scrapbooking paper
@@FroyleArt thank you! I was using a sketchbook and applying the gelli plate on top of the sketchbook paper still in the book and pulling off the plate rather than pulling the paper off the plate. I seem to not transfer all the paint to paper, is that the reason?
@@jeaninec346 most probably! The paper has to have maximum contact with the paint on the plate, so try it the other way, with a loose piece of paper & then stick it into your art journal 👍🏼
How long do u let the pix dry on the plate?
It depends on the temperature of your weather, 10 mins, but sometimes 20 mins if it is humid! & it depends on the thickness of your paint, I always tend to put in too much! If it’s not dry , it won’t pull off the plate as well! 👍🏼 all the best with your creative pursuits, cheers Froyle
Thanks so much❤
How long leave you the paint to dry before putting on more? (6:21)
It has to be touch dry, so depends on your weather? Only Few minutes 👍🏼 unless it is damp & wet then it might take up to 10 minutes 😍 cheers!
@@FroyleArt Aaah ok, thank you so much!! I really love your gel print videos! They are so inspiring 😍
Hi ya hun I’m a watercolourist and just started playing with Gelli plates just wondering about selling work and copyrights with using these images???
When creating artwork to sell, I only use royalty free images, and I really like unsplash, there are a few royalty free websites, cheers Froyle
@@FroyleArt so it is a problem if you are using magazines it doesn’t come under fear use ?? If the images are modified ??
@@Karlena_Lewin_Studio it’s really up to you, I’m sure an image transfer changes the original enough 👍🏼 it’s just for me personally I only use royalty free images just to make sure! 😄
@@FroyleArt yay this copyright thing is confusing I’m normally extremely careful myself if I was needing A reference for a painting so I guess I’ve just answered my own question lol 😂
@@FroyleArt Brilliant, thank you, Froyle.
Could this be done with a comic book?
If the pages are good & glossy! 👍🏼 Give it. Go I would love to see it! 😘 happy creating! Cheers!
The quality of the transfer has a lot to do with the printing process and quality of the paper. Magazine covers are thicker paper and don’t really work for me.
I find the magazine transfers to be very hit & miss, & that can be frustrating! I have found using colour photo copies to be much more successful 👍🏼 thanks for watching, I am loving this creative process 😘
