Recently I read a manga (japanese comic) about a serial killer called Morita, who kills for pleasure, and targets the girlfriend of his ex-classmate.
Morita has all the traits of a psychopath: callousness, impulsivity, inability to empathize with anyone, lazyness, seemingly "normal" façade, chronic boredom, propensity towards violence and parasitic behaviour (he blackmails people into giving him money).
He is at first presented as the most despicable piece of shit ever, but as the story progresses and Morita is developed, we begin to see just how messed up his situation is, and we begin to feel a certain sort of pity.
He has terrible headaches when he isn't killing or hurting anyone, and when he sleeps, he has painful memories of when he was bullied and humilliated in school, the one time when he wasn't in control.
At the end, when Morita fails to murder his main target, and while aimlessly wandering through a park, he begins to reflect on his life and behaviour.
He remembers a dream he once had about walking throughout a city full of people, who were smiling, laughing and having a good time, but as he saw himself in 3rd person, he could see the inside of his head, and noticed that his brain was "different". His whole amygdala was off, and the his frontal cortex was viscerally destroyed.
He then proceeds to remember his saddest memory: After being bullied in highschool, when he was returning home as usual, he began to notice strange patterns in his thoughts, and questioned himself about his violent fantasies about killing and brutalizing living beings.
When he realized he was different, he stopped, crouched on the floor, and sobbed in solitude.
He despaired because he understood that society would never accept his sexual perversion and he felt like everyone was his "enemy", being condemned to stray from the ordinary, happy and moral path of the everyman.
When I saw Morita as a bullied teenager crying on a field because he realized he was sick in the head, a shockwave of realization struck me.
Psychopaths don't choose to be born like this, it's not their fault that they cannot empathize with people or that they have sexual perversions such as murdering people or hurting children. It's just the way they are born.
Morita is of course a fictional case, I doubt psychopaths can be as self reflective as him.
It's as if a cockroach began to analyse itself, and despaired because they realized they are seen as "disgusting" in the eyes of humans. But they are cockroaches nonetheless, they can't help but be who they are, it's us who find them disgusting.
In the end, Morita is found by the police after sleeping in a park, as he gets up, tears of relief are running down his face.
When he finally realized what he was, he could not help himself, it's not until the end that he is moved, when he has hit rock bottom.
It's also kind of ironic, since his tears are in the end still selfish, he's crying because he pities himself, not because he feels regret.
Still, it was a fascinating story.

Finally someone sees the psychopaths suffering. I have been a victim of crime done by psychopaths and I lost my home, everything I owned and later was almost killed due to another. Finally I read up on it and at the end, I found rbain damages. being sick myself but in physical illness caused by stress, I pity them deeply and we can here see why: Its not just a "emotional shut off" as psychiatrists say, its a COMPLETE shutdown of large parties of the brain. No wonder they dont react nor act as healthy brains, they cant and thats why therapy doesnt work wither, cant talk away a brain damage.
Personally I believe it is caused by a nutrient defeciency in the womb and thats why they are born with it. B3 is lacking within schizophrenia and I have tred to get one of them to try B3 but he lied and said he had when he hadnt so I never got to find out if it would have worked. Its two different damages anyway; schizo is of the center of the brain while psychopathy is of the prefrontal cortrex but..An interesting idea.

This was the worst thing Ive ever seen. The psychiatry has for so many decades made us believe "Theyre just emotionally shut off due to trauma.." Thats clearly BS, their brains are to 80% completely dead which explains the dead look in their eyes. The "psychopathic stare" The flat affect. I have studied psychopathy for my own good the past 4 years bc of relationships with them and this was the one video that had my eyes light up and "AHA, I get it! I need to RUN!" There is no hope, no room for improvement, they CANNOT better themselves or feel what we feel and well..this explains it all. They look human, the walk human but they are non functioning. *Thank you* for this, *THANK YOU* !

I had an uncle who was a murderer. But he wasn't a psychopath. The way my mom and grandmother described him was that he was very organized with his personal belongings when he was in school, he never spoke bad words or slang words. He was very proper. He was my moms older brother. My mom says that he was very generous with his money, like he would sometimes give them money or buy them shoes or even a whole set of outfits. But the day he killed someone it was out of revenge. He killed his own friend cause his friend beat my grandpa and stole his shoes and jacket. So my uncle took at as a disrespect against our whole family. And the way my mom describes it was that he went out. Stabbed him to death, came back home, took a shower and left to the shopping mall. He showed no remorse. He ended up spending alot of time in prison for other things im not aware of. And recently he was released after years. And he seemed like a normal person. He even would be very kind to my grandma and take her out to eat to make up for all the years away from her. Basically he is not the type to kill for fun. But he has no problem killing. He can do it and continue his day like nothing ever happened. He was killed 2 years ago. That's why i kept using the word "was" alot.

I’m taking a behavioral neuroscience class this fall and got really excited about it so I went to the bookstore and just happened to come across The Anatomy of Violence and immediately became hooked on this subject. There’s so much neuroscience is gonna do to influence how we handle criminals and what criminal justice looks like. I feel like when you’re little you learn that killers and all criminals are just bad evil people, but now we can really examine the relationship between anatomy and conscious actions. We’re getting a better understanding of factors that lead people to commit crimes and why they don’t recoil at the thought of harming someone else like everyone else would. Humans are not perfect creatures, our bodies fail us all the time and our brains are no exception

    • @Badass_Brains

Why talking about mass murderers and then about psychopathy ? They are very different from serial killers and most of them are troubled but not especially clinical psychopaths..

      Wrong.
When one lies, the Brodmann area, the Wernicke area, the hypothalamus, the amygdala, the medial temporal cortex, the dorsilateral frontal and anerior cingulate cortex activate.
Also your garbage religion speaks of the forehead, without disambiguously referring to the brain, which it still messes up.

That simple? 10^11 neurons (well..), 2nm wide DNA strands, 6 gigabits of information (is that right? And again, well..)... And we can determine something as seemingly complex and nuanced in the social plane like psychopathic behavior via "lower blood flow in an area of the brain the size of my first iPhone"?
I mean, I guess ultimately everything is "anatomical" and this is more of an entertainment show than anything else.. but just pointing out that it's probably not as simple as presented in this video (specifically, that two side-by-side brains image..). But what do I know. Also, by "social plane" I mean: The product of interactions among billions of humans through millennia. Christ, the complexity seems unfathomable.
fMRIs are cool no doubt thou. Yet another thing I'm yet to really understand how it works. Too lazy too stupid.
And here I am watching CZcams videos. Is there an fMRI study for laziness, Doc? :)

what a fallacy! what the guy is basically saying is something similar to this: after years of research we know that most psychopaths have the 'Y' chromosome (being male) and because I also have the Y chromosome I must be one as well. oh no what a discovery I need to write a book about it. congrats someone gives the guy a medal in Logic & mathematics.
