    Thank You for confirming my suspicion. I recently adopted an unidentified male pigeon from HSMO. I found Chinese Rollers and thought that looks like him (Basil) but no crest. Then I found your channel. YES! Chinese Crested Roller! I'm not interested in breeding, just enjoying this comedian. He is loads of fun for the whole family. He's very curious about everything we do. He loves attending my Zoom meetings for work. He looks closely at every person on screen. He will let you know when he's ready for a bath when you get near the kitchen sink. I'll watch more of your videos to learn more about Basil. Thanks for your content

    What about breeding a roll down to a tippler? I think with that cross would eliminate the roll down but make them a high flyer with deep deep rolls.

    Your shell crests SHOULD be a simple recessive, but you mention that some have been dominant and have produced non-crested? I would be interested to know if that was Crest X Crest in an individual coop with no possibility of a plain head being involved by prior recent fertilization of the hen.

    • @therollerpigeonevolutionsm7763
      @therollerpigeonevolutionsm7763  Před 7 lety

      I breed my birds in individual cages so no chance of the nest jumping but I have seen this and other people that had crested birds they sometimes produce non-crested it's not very often but it does occur

    interesting stuff, but I remember some crested roller that were owned by Chan Grover that came from england they did not have a crest like these. These had more like a point of a few feathers behind their head. not a 'curled' crest like seen on these. They showed these crests in old picture too from the UK, again not a crest like this. it's easy enough to find out with DNA now.

    • @neraroll
      @neraroll Před 7 lety

      Dave I had seen them years ago in England myself and like you said they didn't have the actual crests but something I would call "peaks". I remember seeing them at Les Bezances and few others lads over there.

      Dave Henderson thanks for your comments Dave and last of the greats I see exactly what you're talking about the birds from Chandra over bridge with a pointed Crest I've been able to produce both types of crashed out of my birds according to Jen Grover they were excellent spinnersaltogether I have produced for distinct types of crest from one family of birds

      I am starting a family from a Mason cock bird I chose out of the air and two hens from the same family. I bred one young bird that has the crest you describe. Nice to get this history. I am wondering if I can breed for this trait from the one bird.

    hey Sam on the crest rollers you said that the foundation hen was a roll down but then you said never to breed of a roll down to get rid of it but the crest rollers you have came from a roll down can you explain a little better

    • @therollerpigeonevolutionsm7763
      @therollerpigeonevolutionsm7763  Před 7 lety +2

      Jose C excellent point Jose looks like somebody was paying attention yes I stated that birds that were confirmed rolldowns this should never be used as a foundation bird in this case that's exactly what happen when I got these Crested rollers I was not aware that the foundation hen was a roll down had I known this prior to acquiring the family I probably would've never used them but it wasn't until after I had had them for quite some time and roll down quite a few birds that I did a little inquiry and found that out the foundation hen was a roll down at this point I've been able to breed quite a few birds that tend to be stable but because of their foundation I do roll quite a bit of them down so it goes to show you're only as good as the foundation you start with and I stand by what I first said if it rolls down it's not worth breeding out of cull the bird

      Yasir manhal yes they cannot control the roll and do not stop rolling then hit ground and often die or are badly injured
