Lowkey I think people's perception of content is largely just colored by gacha. Baizhu and Kaveh aren't very exciting meta-wise but 3.6 is about the same amount of content as 3.4 and the exploration is (imo) way better, but nobody seemed to have a problem with 3.4 because of HT, Yelan, and Homa+Aqua banners 🤷‍♀️

gacha games (unless ur like a mega whale and ur in a competitive gacha, or u like grinding out flowers and other mats that dont require resin) are side games not meant to be played every single day for 12+ hours, its also part of hoyos entire plan, release a good amount of gacha games that can all be treated as side games, while one game is in downtime, the others arent, basically rotating between games

I enjoy this for very different reasons. With Genshin, I have to be much more active in my participation. Its great when Im at home on my PC. Star Rail is a lot more fun when Im on lunch break or sitting at the DMV or have a 3 hour layover between flights. I'm not getting fucked by being on my phone.
For people that dont spend a lot of time out of the house I can see it being kind of redundant.

Yes, simulated universe is so much fun and is literally the best gamemode in HSR. I kept sending survey forms for genshin about making an endgame content similar to Elysian Realm (which is from HI3rd and where HSR took inspiration to), and I thought they already have one planned out and labyrinth warriors was like a testing event for a future rougelike to be added in the game. But instead they made it a limited event only. Even the hypostasis and kenki event where fun gamemodes too and the fact that you can co-op for higher points, but again instead of implementing it in the game its made to be a limited time event.
Its also been a while since they re-released these events. All this puzzles and coop parlor game events feels really boring honestly

Power creep is inevitable in a turn based game, but because of the toughness bar it should take a while to truly power creep a character because not only does a new character have to do what the old one does it also has to be the same element. My guess for *powercreep* would be that, just like in Genshin, HoYo intends to create both a 4-Star and a 5-Star for each _[archetype + element + role]_ combination, then tune certain event content to be easier with the "flavor of the month" units: There are currently 7 elements and 7 paths in the game, totalizing 49 possible different combinations and 98 potential characters... This is enough variety to build niches for at least 5 years or so without having to repeat archetypes other than [4-Star vs. 5-Star] variants. The event tuning would come from having rules and damage thresholds that benefit certain paths, then mobs of certain elements - say, making the player complete a challenge under 5 turns to get all prizes, or having to use shields in order to stall and survive phase changes for a while.
TL;DR: There won't be much powercreep, unless you ignore 4/5-Star variants, paths and elements - and those _will_ weight on future content, mark my words.

Besides, we have a LOT of leaks on future characters, enough for the next 1-2 years probably. Let's take Seele, only a couple of leaked 5 stars are the Hunt, none of them being Quantum. That means Seele is far from being directly powercrept, and as a pure damage dealer she's in the most vulnerable role.

I just created a new Genshin character! They are a Natlan, tall, male, anemo, catalyst shielder/enabler with long ranged everything. The shield gains the element of whatever the element of the skill hit is, adding 250% damage absorption to the element absorbed, on top of the 250% anemo absorption. The shield scales off EM, in both absorption and damage, at 180% EM + 5298 at level 10. The shield pulses like Xinyans, doing elemental damage slightly first like Kazuha, then hitting with anemo damage, swirling to nearby things. The shield generates two elemental particles, anemo and the element absorbed, unless it does not absorb a element, in that case he just gets an anemo particle. His skill has a 15 second cooldown, with a 18 second shield, and the shield pulses every 2.4 seconds. His burst is a large field that pulls everything towards you for 2 seconds, healing based on every enemy in the radius being pulled, with no ICD and hitting every 0.3 seconds. The damage of the burst also has a high scaling off EM, at 243% EM + 9618. Their first passive makes it so that hydro swirls do damage if under his shield, and adds a 2% damage bonus to all hydro reactions, scaling off 30 EM each 2%, also while under his shield. His second passive increases the range of his already large burst by 40%, and adds Gale of Death stacks every time he swirls. Gale of War stacks increase all reaction and physical damage by 10%, capping at 8 stacks. His first constellation decreases the internal cooldown of all party members for 3 seconds every time his shield hits, by 1 second. His second constellation gives his team 20% damage res when Gale of War is active, also decreasing any enemy res by 10% after getting hit by the burst. His third constellation is skill levels, his fourth increases all team normal attack damage by 20% while under his shield. His fifth is burst levels and his sixth constellation adds a mini burst, 40 of the second passive buffed burst size, with damage buffed by +80% and hitting every 0.2 seconds every time he swirls with a normal attack, with a 15 second cooldown and 12 second duration. oh yeah, and his normal attacks have very high scaling's at 150% 1, 162 2, 180 3 and 200 4. His base stats are low to make up for his power though, at 8912 base HP, with 120 base ATK, 452 base DEF and 82 ascension EM. Please rate or talk about my build. Did you like it? Thanks for reading to the end!

I'd say powercreep hit FGO bad but not really in a way where it stops you from clearing content because the kinda stuff you need to beat the content the game throws at you is very little.
You can beat the game with 1-3*s albeit it's tough so just going along and using your favourite 4* and 5*s be they old or new is completely managable.
Powercreep only hit FGO in the sense that Castoria exists and ruined future character kit designs. Everyone has to have a battery now for example. Pre Castoria there was almost no powercreep except like merlin and skadi
Also with the way FGO does strengthening quests there's always hope for bad units and also some really early units are still on top of the meta, for example Ozymandias ans Enkidu are like the best units in their classes.
As for HSR, as long as they don't go overboard and come back to buff old units like Epic7 and FGO do the powercreep should be manageable

There's still no getting past F12 if you don't have a certain amount of damage and "moving" is more of a virtual feeling rather than anything. Who even tries to dodge F12 consecrated beasts at this point? You just brute force them with enough DPS or retry the chamber cause u got oneshoted lol. It's fundamentally the same as in HSR. I don't know if it's because I've been playing turn-based gachas for a long time now, but I really like HSR gameplay no matter how simple it is compared to other turn-based games. I know having stuff that you can afk may turn-off most people, but it's pretty fine by me. I find automation fun, like what you can expect in Factorio, Satisfactory, and incremental games. I understand that HSR may appear repetitive to some, but at the very least you have lesser participation than with Genshin domains; you won't feel the burnout that much. Besides, gacha games are designed to be more of a side game stuff. Also compared to Genshin, HSR is wayyy better to play on phone. I'm just afraid of the potential powercreep in the game in the future if it does have, like what happens in Epic Seven. But knowing how Hoyo does a decent job on Genshin powercreep, I feel confident that they can also manage this game properly as well. In retrospect I think this game is perfect for those who don't mind turn-based combat and are quite busy IRL, because this game has fast dailies and weeklies (SU is debateabke though), and explorations are smaller in size.

Genshin puzzles are all ultra trivial until suddenly one is kinda hard and doesn't even have proper explanation and it's back to trivial ones. It's probably just a "don't fix what ain't broke" mentality; the game has a license to print money, and any change to the profit-making systems could undermine that, so they almost never do it. (It's been almost 3 years and they still haven't changed the 4-stars in the starglitter shop... it doesn't even have all the 1.0 ones!) The power creep in this game as a pve will be close with genshin but not as bad as hi3 tbh but yeah just like what they did in gi if there's really no pvp or leaderboards it doesn't matter as long as content is still beatable with older units
But they very well can go to genshin's route occasionally releasing strong units while most are just alright

But I don’t see myself playing it long term, no way I am gonna farm for relics and get depressed again. If I hadn’t spent money on Genshin, I would have already quit. Since I got Raiden early this year I farm everyday, I only got a crappy two piece, daily logins feel like chore and no fun at all.

Personally I think powercreep WILL happen but it won’t be as bad as people think. HoYoVerse as a company is made to give the player characters they love and want. If anything I doubt powercreep will happen in the natural sense. I think it’ll be like Honkai impacts way of doing things, that said Honkai is competitive this game isn’t. So with the lack of competitive content currently I really doubt powercreep will be a main problem.
To explain how I think they would do powercreep they will do it in a structure where characters will get upgrades through the Gacha system with something us honkai players call “battlesuits” they will be the same character but with different movesets and base types
For example kiana kaslana started as a Physical Mech type DPS, she then got an upgrade to be a Physical Bio type DPS with the release of the Herrscher of the void, her next BIG upgrade was her becoming the Herrscher of FlameScion that was a Fire Psychic type DPS and her current form that’s the strongest current character in the game is Herrscher of Finality where she’s a Fire Imaginary type DPS.

Genshin has now a period of regression/stagnation in terms of power level, so let's see if something simillar won't happen here in Star Rail. But your powercreep concerns may be very valid, only time will tell.
I love your deep dive videos theorycrafting about upcoming characters, it would be great if you could do the same for Star Rail when you have good enough grasp on power level of characters. Either way, I'll gladly watch more SR videos on CZcams.

Personally im playing untill the end of 1.1 to really decide if i wanna keep playing, not really hooked by the story and not really feeling any of the characters in particular(only one i like the look or is the leaked dan heng), i kinda really dont like how likely it looks like powercreep is gonna be a thing in this, i hate the idea of pulling a character only for them to be rendered obsolete by someone who does the same thing but better, dont wanna compare but that is one of the pros of genshin, mamy old units are still very viable and that doesnt seem like something carrying over to star rail. On the game play side i wish it was more complex, im a huge jrpg fan so im really familiar with turn based games and characters only having three things they can do each feels really limited to me. Biggest pro for star rail is definitely all the qol it has over genshin, hoping hoyo see the positive reception its received and implement some into genshin.

Powercreep in turn-based games can actually be alleviated with regular balance patch. At least there would be something new to try out every once in while without having to pull for a new character.
But if they decided to treat the character balancing like they do in Genshin and just never do any fckin shit unless the character is the god of "china", then yeah, RIP. There won't be anyone be anyone playing the game for long term aside from waifu collectors like me lol.

    • @kalaaw
      @kalaaw Před rokem +1

@@caiovaz6246 zajef already explained it briefly in the vid, the difference between turn-based games like HSR and action game like Genshin. Basically Genshin has a lot more dimensions within its gameplay that every single character feels different to play, so they don't have to do powercreep to sell new characters.
I think he also explained it in more details in his first impression video. But that's the basic idea. In any case, if you haven't been able to figure out by now that Genshin and HSR gameplay are clearly different, maybe a further explaination won't help you much either lol

    • @caiovaz6246
      @caiovaz6246 Před rokem +1

And you take everything he says as the absolute truth? What dimensions does Genshin gameplay even have? Every Genshin new 5* character is literally a copy of an already existing 4* char lmao. There's absolutely nothing innovative in any of the newer chars.
And the new 4*'s? They just make every single one of them trash so no one will bother using them and they won't have to create a new, functional and original kit.
Now, if you were talking about HI3rd gameplay I'd agree, cause every characters plays differently there, there's much more buttons and all that. But In Genshin? You literally press 2 buttons and switch, that's all. Every char does something different and has different animations though... just like HSR. Yes, one is action rpg and the other one is turn based, that doesn't change anything in this regard. Actually, characters in HSR have more buttons, passives and uniqueness than the characters in Genshin.
And in terms of strategy, HSR has as much dimension as Genshin.
You have different enemies, with different weakness' (that's already enough to diversify which character will be better each time), with different mechanics, characters have different roles (even characters within the same path), different synergies between them... Just like powercreep isn't a blatant problem in Genshin, it won't be in HSR because there's a lot of diversity. We have leaks of characters up to 1.5 and none of them are Hunt characters; Seele, for example, will maintain her niche as single target quantum dmg dealer for a long time.
And doesn't Genshin need "powercreep" to sell characters too? Every successful banner in Genshin was very strong in terms of meta. Nahida, Raiden, Ayaka, Hu Tao, Yelan... Meanwhile characters such as Yoimiya, Yae, Kokomi flopped hard.

@@caiovaz6246 it's fine if you don't like zajef (which beg the question as to why you're here, but, well). I myself don't always agree with his take. But at least try to understand an argument properly before rebutting it, please.
There's a reason why Genshin TC's need hours long of vids to explain elemental reaction in Genshin, because it really is that deep and involves multiple layers of mechanism. Whereas elemental weakness in HSR is just, elemental weakness. You break it with an appropriate element, that's it. And that doesn't even take into account various features that makes ARPG gameplay inherently richer than turn-based, like idk, being able to jump perhaps?
I am pretty sure you know that the amount of buttons you press in both games are practically the same and it doesn't tell anything, right? Please stop embarrassing yourself.

@@kalaaw Who said I didn’t try? Your argument just doesn’t make any sense. Do you REALLY think jumping makes Genshin richier than HSR? That people won’t roll for news characters without powercreep because they don’t jump??
Yeah, elemental reactions has many layers of mechanism… to theorycraft.
In practice it’s not that complicated at all. And there are characters that doesn’t even rely on elemental reactions, such as Eula, Itto, Zhongli…
I don’t dislike Zajef but this “HSR won’t be able to sell characters without powercreep” take is just dumb. It’s literally the same thing as in Genshin and I just explained why.
      1. Characters won’t be powercrept that easily
      2. People will still roll for husbandu/waifu and fun factor. Meta characters will sell more but it’s the same thing as Genshin.
Your whole argument is “in Genshin you can jump so Zajef is right”?

Curious how this Roguelike mode is gonna hold up in long term. Imo Genshin already keeps gently trying out systems like this in combat events, but with the way balance shakes out, at high investment players basically ignore the mechanics and stat check everything to death. So most of characters are gonna be meta. So that way we can choose the teamcomp we enjoy. And hopefully character like Silver Wolf will make our team more flexible against different enemies.
