I keep painting scenes from Skye. Saw it as a child, want to go back.
Hi Eleanor,
Glad you enjoyed seeing Skye again. It’s a wonderful subject to paint. I hope you manage to get back there.
Thanks for watching.
Best wishes, James
Love this can watch it over and over again. My favourite part of the country and art included !! Looking forward to the next update. Enjoy your trip.
Hi Mike ,
Glad you enjoyed the video so much. I agree with you it’s one of the best parts of Scotland
Thanks for watching.
Best wishes, James
It made me smile when you said you thought how lovely it would be to move to Fort William, because we are always wanting to move to the places we visit on holiday, and find ourselves looking in estate agents windows.
Scotland is a wonderfully tranquil place .
Tanya and I are really addicted to that idea as well. It’s interesting when you get home from holiday, you realise it would’ve been a terrible idea to move there!
Best wishes, James
Those colours of the mountains and surrounds…just beautiful! I will be watching this again for sure. You make sketching certainly the way to go before beginning a painting. Looking forward to being on Skye and you being at home and getting into the painting.
Hi Noel,
The colours in Scotland, especially when the weather is slightly inclement are amazing. It’s such a dramatic country We had some great moments in Skye in between the weather!
Thanks, James
I liked the intro into the location as well as seeing your process of sketching the scene. Looking forward to seeing your painting.
Hi Mary,
Glad youenjoyed this. Scotland is such a lovely place. The only downside is the weather and the summer midges.
I’ve painted the first sketch, I hope you enjoy watching that.
Best wishes, James
Love the scenery and colors. I can't wait to see your paintings of those beautiful landscapes.
Hi Bailey,
The scenery is amazing! The Highlands are so dramatic.
Looking forward to painting the sketches back in the studio.
Best wishes, James
Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for your message
Best wishes, James
Thanks, loved how you find a scene on every place you go.
Hi Lena,
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Is one of the biggest challenges I face trying to find something to paint. Luckily, the more I do it, the more I managed to see something.
Thanks for watching.
Best wishes, James
Great start to your journey James, loved seeing’s your sketching and look forward to your time on Skye. Enjoy your time away and I wait with anticipation for your return to the studio to see the results of your trip.

@@JamesPotterAboutArt hey James, yes i hope i'll visit Scotland one day. The nature looks amazing. Im happy to tell you that im finally in a process of making a new painting, the biggest plein air painting i ever done, and first time that i'm doing plein air in sessions. Its already a 5th day. I'm trying to document it and will post a video when its ready. Have a good day :)
That sounds really great. I really look forward to seeing it!
@@JamesPotterAboutArt finally i did post it! yeah
Thanks James a beautiful part of the world . I look forward to you catching this moody and dramatic landscape in a painting which will inspire us all.
Hi Robert,
The West Coast of Scotland is stunning. There’s so much to see.
This will be a different Watercolour for me, trying to capture the moody skies is always a challenge.
That video should be out on Sunday.
Best wishes, James
I am impressed by your skill to sketch with a ball point pen. So effective, yet so simple. I look forward to new legs of your trip.
Hi Berolina,
I really like the ballpoint pen for drawing. It has a lot of benefits. I enjoy the very firm line it gives and that it doesn’t smudge. Also, I never have to sharpen it!
I hope you enjoy the next part of our visit to Skye .
Best wishes, James
I don’t think you could find a place that wasn’t worthy of a painting anywhere on your trip. Beautiful!! A real treat for someone located in the center of the US. Enjoyed seeing how you sketch out your painting. 🙂
Hi Darci,
I think you’re right, you can make a painting everywhere in the Skye!
Scotland is amazing sometimes it feels like you in prehistoric times.
Hopefully one day, you’ll manage to have a trip here
Best wishes, James
Mesmerising stuff. At Morar, have they finally got rid of the anchored white boat? Even around 2010, I thought it was a bit of an eyesore.
Strange fact: at 19:23, the hill in the distance (Sgurr of Eigg) is actually a 'fossilised valley', filled with pitchstone from a volcanic eruption. Over the years, the sides of the original valley were eroded to leave the pitchstone filling standing proud of the new (lower) ground level.
Interested to see where you go on Skye ...
Hi William,
I didn’t see the boat, so looks like it might have gone.
It’s one of the sites of Scotland, seeing extinct, volcanoes scattered everywhere, with their indestructible magma cores. Edinburgh is full of them too.
I’m looking forward to doing some paintings of Eigg and Rum in the summer.
Hope your painting is going well.
Best wishes, James
Only two comments?! Come on, people! 😂
It was certainly a slow burner!
