A author, journalist and consultant for several Christian television channels, who was recently in Manipur, both in the valley and in the hills, and spoke widely to people of both the Meitei and Kuki communities, says that the horrifying videos and reports that surfaced in the last week of killings, burning and rapes are “just the tip of the iceberg”. Babu Verghese says that the full truth, when its known, will be far worse than what we know today.

@ meitei were dragged into this conflict by the kuki zo to complish their aim of seperate administration . Few months after CM N biren Singh gift Churachandpur medical College to the people of Churachandpur ( The same government that lend RT CPR COVID testing machine when Mizoram doesn't have none and when the Mizo needed the most in the year 2020,) .ILTF volunteer burn down open gym in CCPUR district which was to be inaugurated by CM two three days before the start of the conflict( mentioned in sangai express). ITLF then organised rally on May 3 opposing ST demand by Meitei . On the same day some miscreants probably from hill volunteer burn down Kuki Anglo Memorial gate in Kangvai ( Kuki - Zo) dominated area and blame it's to the Meitei. ( I personally called my freinds in Churachandpur regarding this and they told me meitei will never do such things and on the other it is a kuki dominated area) Few hours after the incidents Kukis Zo from CCpur , Kangpokpi, Moreh burnt down all the innocent meitei residing in these town even chasing away their fellow Christian ( Meitei) from CCpur. This trigger angers and frustration to the Meitei and retaliated the same on May 4 after the Kuki attack on innocent Meitei first i.e May 3. Kuki (Soo )militants come down from the hills and burnt down houses in Imphal East district bordering Kangpokpi starting from Ekou and killing 9 villagers on the spot by the kuki on may 3 night.The kuki mob burns down several house until they reach pukhao.(10 km from Saikul i.e Kuki dominated area)The helpless meitei for the sake of their safety had no other choice but to loots arms from near by Arm depot to defend their home and children, they don't have any arms as they are not ready to face this type of surprise attack from the kuki. Retaliation on may 4 is done by the Meitei because of provocation from their counterparts on May 3. Kukis killed many innocent Meitei but doesn't record on phone after advice from their leaders .Meitei are not agressive people they even don't have their own arms to defend themselves when the conflict began but the Kuki Zo have around 35 underground militants readily available to attack the Meitei on that day.
Meitei doesn't have war with the Kukis before and we don't expect this type of hatred from the kuki..it is also the mistake of some sections of the Meitei to let suffer our beloved kuki brother and sisters living peacefully in Imphal. But I also understand when the Meitei learn that all their relatives houses in ccpur, Kangpokpi, moreh are burn down by the kuki in their homeland , the retaliation was inevitable.
In the end it's is the innocent people that suffer the most. May this conflict end soon and justice be served to the people irrespective of community.

I am here refuting the claims made that Kukis burnt down meitei churches in the hills, with citing one Church (Napat Christian Church) that Dr. Homen mentioned in his interview with Karan Thapar.
I am saying this as someone who lives just 100 metres away from Napat Christian Church.
May 3rd was the start of the clashes between the two ethnics.
And on 4th May, the Arambai Tengol in large numbers came to Sugnu area {point to be clear : Sugnu bazaar lies in the point where 4 districts meets, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel, Thoubal -- Bishnupur and Thoubal is where the meiteis resides and Ccpur and Chandel is where the Kukis reisdes}…
The locals in Sugnu area from both communities agreed for peace and there was an agreement that even if there is clashes on other part of Manipur. Here in Sugnu, we will maintain peace which was the agreement. Even-though unfortunately, on 28th May (2:50 am), the clash eventually broke out.
Coming back, Napat - meitei village is connected with Makhao-Mollum and M. Bongmol village (a kuki village)
The christian church in Napat is a tin roof, mud wall (Kacha Church), with the capacity of around 30-40 peoples only.
The meitei christian in Napat consists of just few households (less than 10 households if I am not wrong). This is the only meitei church ever in sugnu area.
The meitei locals feared that the Arambai might spark the clash even here in sugnu area. So the meitei locals in Napat themselves demolish the church under the pressure of the Arambai. (And mind you, not all Napat residents are christian, just around 5-10 households).
****** point to be clear : the Arambai Tengol themselves was going to demolish the Church in Napat … But since, the church was barely 10 metres away from a kuki village (Makhao Mollum).. Fearing that the Arambai demolishing the church might anger the Christian Kuki - so the residents of Napat themselves demolished the church.****
Never will a Kukis christian burnt down another christian church even if that community is the adversary.
And I believe is the same with the Hindu or Muslim - a Hindu man will never burnt down another Hindu temple just because they are the enemy. So is the same with Muslim.

I was at Sugnu Tribal on 28th . We resisted till after noon and then had to leave because we were outnumbered.
We the Kuki-Zo community will proudly stand by our ethics. We do not kill innocent civilians even in the time of war such as this.
1. Even on the 4th of May as news of what had happened to our community in the valley had already become common knowledge, our women folk formed human chains in Lamka town to safeguard meiteis being evacuated from their localities. Our men respected that and did not intervene. We did not repay in kind by hunting down innocents. There are videos to attest to this. Not to deny that there were also instances of exceptional people from the meitei community who helped many Kuki-Zos to safety. But they were that - the exception. For the Kuki-Zos, it is general ethics.
2. Most of the deaths from the Kuki-Zo Community happened in imphal during the first few days of the violence, at the hands of marauding meitei mobs, in the very places they had called homes. Most of the deaths from the meitei community happened in the following days, weeks and months as their militants came to attack Kuki-Zo villages. We did not kill them in their homes and in the streets as had been done to us in the valley. Those who stayed home, never had anything to fear.
3. 5 meiteis who had wandered into Kuki-Zo areas in Kangpokpi district were caught and released unharmed because they were unarmed civilians. Imagine what would have happened to our brethren had the situation been reversed. There are videos of this incident on the internet, along with proof from the Army to this incident.
4. An 80 year old meitei woman who had been left behind by her family in Sugnu was taken care of by the Kuki-Zos and later reunited with her family. Again, there is video evidence to attest to this fact. We do not harm innocent civilians. No innocent man, woman or child was ever harmed by the Kuki-Zo community in cold blood.
5. We build bunkers to hunker down to defend our villages. We retaliate when attacked to defend our homes, our lands and our people. We do not gather in the hundreds and thousands to set out to attack meitei villages. What happened in the intial days of driving out the meiteis from Kuki-Zo dominated areas was in response to the longest night of our history when our kinsmen were hunted in the city, their homes and churches burned and their lives taken in the most savage of manners. Yet, as we drove them out, we did not harm fleeing people.
Kuki-Zo may be tribals, but in all this violence, the meiteis have proven themselves to be the more barbaric community. We can hold our heads up high knowing we stand on the higher moral ground and as such, with the truth on our side, the nation and international community is slowing coming together to hear our voices and plead justice on our behalf.

I received a very disturbing video of a Kuki guy whose head has been cut off and kept on a bamboo fence and this was the caption that came along with the video.

This is horrific and I almost threw up watching the video of a severed head. There are many other videos of inhumane violence I’ve seen and it’s all crossed the line. Gone too far. It’s no more humane. It’s worse than animals.

BJP has got nothing to do anything about it. I have lived in Manipur for 2 and half years in 1999 -2002. The whole problem started in 1949 when Jawharlal Nehru removed the Maithi who were Sheduled Tribe upto that time and made them SC. No Maitis are allowed to buy any proparty in Manipur except lmphal valley. So 80% of the people of Manipur (ln 1949 the Maitis were 80% of the population of Manipur which has been reduced to just 55% now because of this draconian law of Nehru) These riots between Maitis and Kukis and Nagas has been going on since 1949 mostly during Congress rule even before BJP was formed and Congress is responsible for their divide and rule policy which they mastered from the British.

Discrimination existed against those people but the people were not categorised as such by the government. It only came into effect when the Constitution was implemented on 26th January, 1950. Plurality in Manipur at 42% and Arunachal Pradesh at 30%. Significant populations in Goa at 25%, Pondicherry at 6.3% and Tamil Nadu at 6.2%.
In every state Christian minorities are living in peace. The only problem for the Kukkies is Manipur is that they are only 41% against the Meities population who r mostly Hindus. So, the GoI and the BJP State government intends to do an ethnic clinching. So sad. On the other hand Christian minorities in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram nearly 99% of the people r Christians. So the dirty politics of the BJP would be counter productive in the states.The tribals rights of these states, including land rights r well protected. Alas, the Kukkies in Manipur r going to lose their tribal rights .It's a unfortunate happening.
Only in Shillong capital of Meghalaya, few sq km of land rights were given to outsiders, (non-tribals) by the British colonial rule, when Meghalaya was part of Assam. Even the earstwhile Bengal Presidency used Shillong as it's Summer capital.

It was heartbreaking to see Mr. Varghese crying when he was narrating the part about the children imploring him to save them, and towards the end of the interview. But we all know nothing will be done by those who are supposed to rectify the situation and this looks like it will devolve into a far worse bloody civil war.

1. HC order govt for recommendations for meitei in ST list. So, tribal community have organized really on 3rd of may to protest against st demands of meitei .There r 34 communities living together in manipur. None have problem except kuki.
2. India is a democratic country. If kuki had enough evidence or proof to prevent meitei from inclusion in ST list, why have they not gone to higher authority in a peaceful manner. There is judiciary to handle the situation. Instead, they have started to burn the meitei home in churachandpur and nearby village called torbung.
3. Lastly, govt have started to destroy the encroaching village in reserve forest and protected forest.
5. Govt have also started identifying Myanmar immigrants and started war on drugs campaign by destroying thousands of acre of poppy cultivating hill for drug free state.
The ethnic clash has a deep root of beyond outsider mind to understand. They try to be a victim for the clash because almost all the the illegal activities as a mention earlier has affected kuki more than anyone else. So, they believe the govt is against the kuki people for all the wrongdoing.

In order to verify the no. of meitei women killed by Kuki-Zo, you have to visit the meitei displace people and ask for number of women who were killed or rape. I am pretty sure you wont find even a single meitei victim of rape or murdered by Kuki-Zo people.
No, they can also be misled or forced to make up stories of lies. Meiteis are good at weaving stories of lies and in fact, they are fond of doing that way.
Seeing as how Meitei community would even claim that the Rapist was only trying to save the Kuki girl, I will not believe any words coming from meitei people unless there is solid proof for it. They have shown themselves to be liars and spread propaganda from the very start.

I am here refuting the claims made here that Kukis burnt down meitei churches in the hills, with citing one Church (Napat Christian Church) that Dr. Homen mentioned in his interview with Karan Thapar.
I am saying this as someone who lives just 100 metres away from Napat Christian Churches and witnessed it.
May 3rd was the start of the clashes between the two ethnics.
And on 4th May, the Arambai Tengol in large numbers came to Sugnu area {point to be clear : Sugnu bazaar lies in the point where 4 districts meets, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel, Thoubal -- Bishnupur and Thoubal is where the meiteis resides and Ccpur and Chandel is where the Kukis reisdes}…
The locals in Sugnu area from both communities agreed for peace and there was an agreement that even if there is clashes on other part of Manipur. Here in Sugnu, we will maintain peace which was the agreement. Even-though unfortunately, on 28th May (2:50 am), the clash eventually broke out.
Coming back, Napat - meitei village is connected with Makhao-Mollum and M. Bongmol village (a kuki village)
The christian church in Napat is a tin roof, mud wall (Kacha Church), with the capacity of around 30-40 peoples only.
The meitei christian in Napat consists of just few households (less than 10 households if I am not wrong). This is the only meitei church ever in sugnu area.
The meitei locals feared that the Arambai might spark the clash even here in sugnu area. So the meitei locals in Napat themselves demolish the church under the pressure of the Arambai. (And mind you, not all Napat residents are christian, just around 5-10 households).
****** point to be clear : the Arambai Tengol themselves was going to demolish the Church in Napat … But since, the church was barely 10 metres away from a kuki village (Makhao Mollum).. Fearing that the Arambai demolishing the church might anger the Christian Kuki - so the residents of Napat themselves demolish the church.****
