Big Brother: The Cookout on Making History and That ‘Reverse Racism’ Criticism (Exclusive)

- Xavier Prather, Hannah Chaddha, Kyland Young, Derek Frazier, Azah Awasum and Tiffany Mitchell chat with ET’s Kevin Frazier about Wednesday night’s historic climax of ‘Big Brother’ season 23. For the first time, a Black contestant won the U.S. version of the hit reality series. In addition, it was the first time an all-Black alliance existed and made it to the end. ‘The Cookout’ reacts to all of these groundbreaking milestones, and addresses viewer criticism that they operated under ‘reverse racism,’ a concept which scholars agree does not exist. ‘Big Brother’ airs on CBS, with a ‘Celebrity’ edition returning this winter.

Good on ET for putting Tiffany and Hannah in the front, and DF in the back lol
rude much
Good for the straight black man whooped their asses…
giving credit out here for the bare minimum
Yeah, that's what you do when you take pictures, you put the bigger people in the back and smaller in the front, duh! It had nothing to do with how they played be brother except for X, The Only reason why he's front and center is because he was the winner.
Azah’s face when Big D started talking 🤣🤣🤣
Exactly, she sees him for the snake that he is.
Lmaooo she made that same look on finale night when he was speaking

Derek F is DYING for credit that he is NOT due!!!!
Honestly, it's SOOOOO obnoxious & gross.
He’s needs attention. It’s really sad. Also, Kyland was mostly quiet during this interview - good move.
the way he called tiff a B rubbed me the wrong way ever since. Plus the way he spoke to azah.... Like boy BYE. You did not backpack her, yall both floated. But at least her ass won twice.
@@TheTonyspik Fr atleast she won something. He pulled that carry her attitude out his arse. The only reason they both lasted is because there were bigger threats who needed to get taken care of.

Derek's stated what the goal was, X came up with the name. Tiffany presented the strategy to execute.
Thank you. Facts. People are trying to make drama between Tiff and Derek about who created it. Tiff said herself that D came to everybody individually. Xavier came up with the name, Tiff had the game plan. It’s that simple!
BigD didn’t include Hannah.
..................
Glad Xavier gave Tiff the credit she deserves. Congrats y’all 🎉💕
A true gentleman.
A true lawyer
To be fair in the house he was boosting the egos of the guys cuz he would credit Tiffany to azah
Winning the main prize will allow you that grace.
Tiff won AFP so Xavier is trying to not rock the boat 😂
It’s Hannah’s face for me when Big D starts talking 🤣🤣🤣
It's like collectively they ALL have the same facial expression.
Hannah lucky to be there. She doesn't look black at all. She only claimed her black side to get into the alliance.
@@brentthompson1607 Actually, Hannah shared specific, relevant experiences in common with the other black HGs and self-ascribes as a black woman both inside and outside of the BB house. Hannah doesn't look white either and has a readily identifiable South African parent.
@@lesamccoy8373 I never said she looked white. But she looks Indian. She is not blackpassing. I say this because it appears she only leaned into her black side for game purposes. But I can guarantee that in her real life, she doesn't. Because she doesn't need to. She just doesn't look black.
@@brentthompson1607 How do Black people look? We come in all shades & all features. Especially when we are BI-RACIAL. So I don’t understand “she doesn’t look black”. She looks half black to me. Exactly what she is.
Lesa McCoy Is saying she doesn’t agree with your statement that she only claimed her black side to get into the alliance. When she clearly said that half of her family is black and she identifies with them. That Tiff remit of her of her Aunts. That doesn’t mean that she ignores the Indian side of her family either. You can guarantee nothing because you don’t know her. We can only go by what she said on the feeds. She identifies as Half Black.
Pay attention to X's face, when Derek started talking about his involvement.

Big D was only ever playing for second place, he knew he was not a winner. He did nothing all season. His best hope was only ever being taken to the final and he knew that..

All I see is that Big D still can't give the women credit in this interview. And its funny that now X wants to give Tiffany credit after bashing her the last four weeks in the house and claiming she did nothing.
As a Lawyer I think he learned how to adapt to different situation.. When talking to the guys he HAD to say Tiff did nothing cuz a. Big D didn't like Tiff b. Not when they target minorities, and specifically Black hg's first. On top of his athletic build.
That's the whole point of the Cookout. Lol That they could protect one another from OTHERS attempting to take one them out early, as they have in the previous 22 seasons.
@@christined979 Incorrect information.
You're forgetting that in 22 seasons, the few minorities are always targeted early. Athletic or not, they are always viewed as expendable. That is the WHOLE point of The Cookout. Lol They actually had enough Black hg's to keep one another safe. Smart, competitive Black hg's.
You see Frenchie put up two minorities immediately (after Brent gamed him) and Travis, I believe, talked about getting rid of Tiffany, or one of the other CO members, first week.
The Point Is That They Are Never Given A Chance As The Minority Group and BEING a Minority, within the BB House.
Very true! It’s sad people overlooked his excellent and perfect gameplay.
He was amazing, but it definitely wouldn't have played out like this in past seasons because of the types of people they've cast. This year's houseguests were very cool, progressive and not racist (Christian, Alyssa, Claire, Frenchie, etc). I hope they continue to cast more people like Season 23!

The Cookout wasn't formed because black people have been winning big brother a lot over 23 seasons ... the cookout was made BECAUSE black people have mostly been voted out early on. This is the first black winner of BB (regular season - Tamar Braxton won BB celebrity) ... tbh BB put them in this position. Of course they were gunna do it. And they allllll know that the cookout could only be done once. Their advice for future POC in the house - play individual games. So everyone knows that this was to accomplish a goal beyond BB - now that it is accomplished, there is no need for another CO.
Funny how POC can stick together and it's racism but the all-white alliance that targets anyone non-white is fine because "they didn't say anything racist" ... duh, they're on national television...
@@lucas.daniel well said
@@lucas.daniel perhaps because no white alliance has EVER voted a person out PURELY because of their skin color!! RACISM GOES BOTH WAYS!!
@@TO-bw9fs so you support racism!? How sad our country has become!!
I loved that the interview kindof ran it self. (The interviewers questions might have been cut out) but we saw the him only a few times. And the co was just talking to each other, asking each other questions
7:31 this is unfortunately , true. This is good advice 😂😂
"I would tell them to look at how receptive the jury was to us"
Umm as if they would say "yeah an alliance of all black people targeting the non-black houseguests is a bad look" on national television lmao.
Don't act like there hasn't been blatant multiple person racism in BB from Non-Black cast members to Black cast members.
Some people believe that Black people have been targeted by White alliances for 22 seasons. So this year as reparations they were cool with them protecting themselves from falling to that same fate once again by forming their own alliance.
Some people are good people in private as well as on national television. No need to assume that everyone is a racist. 😝
Ummm... So did you miss every year in BB history when all Caucasian alliances always targeted all black and brown people first and deliberately pitted then against each other, on top of racial, cruel and discriminatory jokes and remarks and bullying them. This is fact. So you don't think that was a horrid look for the network?! Unlike the prior seasons you never heard the Cookout undermine or speak negatively or personally against their other houseguests it make racial comments. The same could not be said of some of the prior allegiances.
It isn't :D
racist alliance. bc now Kyle on the next season suggests the same thing and he's racist lol but these folk aren't. okay
Why should we applaud an alliance based solely upon the colour of our skin? Some people lack shame.
Love them so much!
I don’t personally like this, and it makes Xavier’s win seem undeserved. I’m all for African Americans winning Big Brother but not like this. I want them to win cause they played a great game on all aspects, but making a black person win just because they all teamed up is pathetic as fuck, like the alliance isn’t bad but it’s the stupidest way to make an alliance, for once, I want a black person to win cause it was earned and deserved, not because simply “they’re black so they have to win” what if all the black people in a season were shit, but you’d only want them to win cause they’re black, that’s dumb, biased, and selfish. That’s what makes Bb23 one of the weaker seasons for me, I simply don’t like the message it’s trying to tell about Xavier winning, period.
Actually I take something back, BB23 is not as a weak season cause everyone outside the cookout we’re entertaining with Frenchie, Brent, Sarah Beth, and many others. But for being in an alliance, Jesus these cookout members have the most blandest personalities I’ve ever seen. One of the worst alliances by a mile.
Best alliance of all time!!
Racist alliance of all time.
@@josephkingsford8480 how are they racist
how 🤣
Sticking Together is what made me proud of them.
Love it 😍
Congrats to the cookout and Tiffany's brilliant strategy!
Now, we're calling racism a 'strategy.' I'll remember that next time I'm developing a recruiting 'strategy.'
@@josephkingsford8480 figuring out how to get an alliance of 6 people to the end of the game is not racism. Its called being a great player. As. So many of the previos great players and winners of BB have already said and given her credit for.
Joseph Kingsford racism means U think that your race is better and then excluding, abusing, insulting another race. They excluded another race because their race hasn’t won in 2 decades cause people that thought that their race was superior even if they where implicit about it messed with them.
I do believe the non cookout jurors unstood their mission but they are human and there is disappoint and hurt that they cannot voice in front of camera for fear of social media. They will be able to do this in private.
Finally ❤️❤️❤️. It’s a shame it took 23 seasons damn shame
AZAH's ANSWER WAS SPOT ON‼️ So incredibly proud of them 🤗 Most successful alliance in history 💎
Most racist too
Love Tiffany
The game is being deceptive “making history,” that’s the deception of the devil. Kudos to Azah, the only one who made history.
Isaiah 5:20
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness to light and light to darkness, who replace bitter with sweet and sweet with bitter.”
Definitely a joy to watch this season although Derek F was working my nerves. Lol
"There's no such thing as reverse racism." No, you're right. It's just called racism. Targeting someone because of their skin color. There's really no other word for it. 🤦🏼♀️
you a lil slow in the head department
Well you can’t really expect Cooklux alliance members to say anything else, can you ;-)
The CO are Blatant rascists
