A truly Legendary song from my graduation year of 1980. Dan Fogelberg was a big part of my youth. So many classics, but Heart Hotels stands out as my favorite.

I went to high school in Pekin, IL, where Dan's father was the director of the band & their competitive singing group called the Noteables. It's what Leader of the Band is about.
I don't know how many people were fortunate enough to see Dan Fogelberg perform live in his career but I consider myself lucky to have been one of them. He was an amazing musician, singer and performer but most of all he was a truly wonderful story teller. It was perhaps the thing that he did best of all
The orchestral break between the verses is just brilliant. His voice sounds entirely different than in his recordings. What power and singularity! Wonderful performer and a great songwriter... gone too soon.
I think that's the lyricon solo between each verse--gives it such a modern feel. If Ed Sheeran or someone wrote it today, it would sound just as fresh as it did 40 years ago.
I had the pleasure of listening to this talented artist back when I served the US Navy. My shipmates listened to Mr. Fogelberg frequently. It is hard to believe he was taken way before his time. At least we lived in an era when we were blessed by his presence and his music still reminds us when his talent was pure.

What an Amazing singer, songwriter and musician. I wish he was still with us. He passed much to young. I could listen to his music all day every day. I wish he had a son to carry on his legend.
Damn I love this song. So jazzy and smooth. D-Fo meets smooth jazz. I love his rough raspy voice on this live. His voice on most of his recordings was very smooth and soft but these live performances let out his raw energy and power. Definitely one of my top favorite songwriters.

It's Amazing How Others misconstrued and misunderstand things , I Have 3 Different Kind's Of Pain I'm Currently Dealing w/ . One is family , one is for a love long ago ; that if I had known , who he truly was and had to leave to chase his dreams and wouldn't be back not knowing if I'll ever see him again then ; I would have never gotten with the current I recently had to let go and I am grateful for all experiences . Anyway this song reminds me a lot of how a lot of us live , almost #Lifeless in a way. Their hopes and dreams Shattered by themselves and outside forces. But we must never lose hope for a better life and a better way of doing things.
