30 minutes of the best music that can be found in Metal.
One thing that really sets early Enslaved, Burzum and Darkthrone apart is the repetitiveness and simplicity that runs through all the tracks. There is just something about how these bands, in particular on the early records, keep pounding the same riff into your ears over and over. No need to sprinkle in some variation or relief. This gives the music a sense of confidence and relentlessness, and the monotony makes it eerie and outerwordly. Hordanes Land is as pure black metal as it gets. I remember hearing this for the first time being 13 around 1993, and it changed my perception of music and what was possible within art forever. I am actually from the same city as Enslaved, and even used to rehearse in their studio when I was in a band myself back in the days.
I feel you... Its the same making the music, a kind of trance..

Hell yeah! Brings me back to high school in MI in the mid 90's. This along with old school Emperor,Burzum, Graveland, "Live in Leipzig" era Mayhem and a few others I probably forgot will always be real black metal.

Still my favorite Enslaved release. After so many years it stands out as one of the best pieces of black metal ever recorded. And it's not that the new Enslaved albums are bad - they are amazing. But this was a straight forward black metal, even though a little bit complex and I love it for what it is.
I love it so much I ended up buying the original release on cassette from Candlelight records!
That's the one I originally heard when I was about 16. It made an impact that will be heard for centuries. Nice dudes too.

Yeap, their best recording. Harsh but "enjoyable". Don't get me wrong, "Eld" and "Blodhemn" are great albums too, but if I had to choose the best Enslaved record that would be this one.

People can bitch all day if they want that Enslaved are no longer Black Metal. BUT you cannot say they suck, or are a bad band! They are some of, if not the best, musicians in the Extreme Metal world today, and that includes Emperor, to whom everyone thinks are the best musicians ever.

I had this on casette back in 93' I was at a Festival in NY C at a club that gave these away the split with Emperor. Still have it and it's a little worn down from playing it all the time. Even though I am from NY U S. I was heavily into Norwegian Black Metal from "1992" the first album I bought that year was Darkthrone then Immortal.
Non Believer yes I thought to myself I should make a band like this cause I had the voice and played Guitar like Tom G. Fisher who I idolized as a great riff player for Black Metal slow and Evil but they the rest of them thought this music was a joke so I told them to fuck off. Poser's wanted to sound like Type O Negative bloody kisses style.
I loved this album when it was released and still do!

it always sounded like Trym was playing 1000x faster than the rest and I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he jumped over to Emperor. still, I love early Enslaved.

I think Enslaved are the real masters of Norwegian (black) metal. Only great albums, passion, creativity, and always true to the core. HAIL Enslaved.
Leave it be, for later generations.. Mail from Norway to Sweden was pretty fast back then(aside from dsp) so I got it early before the split with Emperor.
the only thing wrong with this EP is that they left the 4th track (“Enslaved”) off it!!
