I've seen them picked up and put back in place, and after the track crew fixed the track, they were good to go. We lived in a much better world then, things weren't made into such a huge deal
Joe I lived in Pgh all my life till we moved 2 years ago. Where we live now if a road needs fixed or resurfaced it's done in a day or two, Pgh takes to much time when doing any road project, and the problem is it's to small a city when it comes to changing the traffic pattern because of the lack of roads that's needed. Then there's the Unions.
This happened in the UK ( in 1972 ! ) .... a brand new concrete footbridge spanning the earthworks on the ( soon to be completed ) M3 motorway in NE Surrey , ( Upper Halliford ) ... was struck by a driver of a Caterpillar™ mining truck , travelling empty at 60 MPH ! ... WITH THE SKIP UP ! ! .. the ( new ) bridge had to be demolished ... and ... the chassis of the HUGE mining truck , bent beyond repair ( he was dismissed , BTW 😝) ...... DAVE™🛑
It's a shame they have ta take that part of the bridge down they could have check the rails n have a scenic train ride n excursion and passenger train service on that line It's sad how the railroad history is slowly disappearing n they only have freight service on that line n once the businesses don't want rail service anymore that line will become out of service n then they will rip up the rails n take down the other part of the bridge n the bridge foundation 😢😢😢
@jaysmith1408 that's good wish they would replace it n have a scenic train ride n passenger rail service back on that bridge and just have regular freight service on the other bridge where it doesn't hault train traffic n it keeps them moving But A know that's wishful thinking
Line is still active, just don't run double track anymore so no big loss. Pittsburgh and PRT will probably never expand light rail in your lifetime. It's more likely that they will shrink the system rather than expand it.

You can clearly see the corrosion damage on the girder. The only place that bridge is good to go is the scrapyard.
Bridge no longer used or needed by railroad so to the srapper it goes.

They use the other bridge, much newer concrete span, about ten feet from this one.

@@DanielUnger-gn9ct it’s the W&LE, they only have one train, scheduling other service wouldn’t be an issue, only liability for two separate services.

Google maps shows no tracks in line with the ones on the bridge. Looks like this bridge should have been removed a long time ago.

So, Wheeling and Lake Erie has no plans to revive the line? Maybe they could turn it over to Pittsburgh Light Rail?
