People often talk about how great Ash’s Staraptor and Talonflame are - and that’s certainly true, but Swellow may be better given how it go more focus than the birds that came after it and multiple gym battle MVP moments.
It was a game changer :)
Ok but don't forget that ash's hoenn ace was still a grovyle during the hoeen journey it wasn't that good which made corphish and swellow the MVPs in most of the battles
And almost all his opponents had trash movests for example venomoth did not have any offensive move ( comparing to the powerhouses talonflame and staraptor faced )
In kalos and sinnoh his aces evolved earlier and they overshadowed his birds
If you count swellow was used in more battles than the others + they added the battle frontier saga so it had more opportunities to shine
Then the writers did it dirty in the sinnoh League.

Makes no sense Swellow took multiple super effective Thunderbolts as a taillow from Ash's Pikachu and still survived. Ash's Pikachu had a tie with Latios I swear Swellow shouldn't have been oneshotted.
Thunder Armor is an infamous moment in the Anime but makes sense for Ash's Swellow.

Agreed. As it showed from early on to have big bird balls when it came taking electric attacks.
What if Swellow’s ability is Guts and Pikachu’s thunderbolt was able to paralyse and activate it’s ability
I wouldn’t say it makes sense at all lol. They should have just made it use guts
Hopefully, this video reminds fans of how badass Swellow was! He was more than just part of the ridiculous Thunder Armor that fans point towards when regarding how ridiculous the anime could get.

@@ashishmehta8342 Exactly, and it was easily taken down. It got a huge buff in Battle Frontier, and people assume it is the MVp of Hoenn, but technically, it is the more popular pokemon from Hoenn on Ash's team.

Swellow is so underrated. It's super strong and it's pretty cool. It actually won a lot of battles as swellow

Another homerun from CZcamss top pokemon professor. I feel like Swellow was a trailblazer for the anime since the writers were able to really use a flying type for something other than scouting and popping balloons. Beating Donphan really shows how well it was trained

I honestly forgot just how strong Ash's Swellow was. It's always been a favorite of mine from gen3 (I'm a fan of many gen3 Pokemon), and seeing how awesome it was gives me new appreciation for this bird Pokemon!

The episode where it lost to Drew's Roselia, I believe it wasn't shown onscreen but during a flashback in the episode; Ash and Tallow actually beat Drew and his Roselia, the flashback was Drew challenging Ash AGAIN but this time he won onscreen when May showed up and saw it.
To be honest even Roserade has no chance against Swellow. Go ahead. Poison me. If you have GUTS :p

Swellow is awesome and imo Ash’s strongest and most consistent regional flying type that he’s caught! I’ll never forget how resilient it was being able to take *multiple* thunderbolts and still have strength to battle. One of my favorites for sure.

Swellow I’d say was the underrated powerhouse of Ash’s hoenn team so i think it deserves more credit for that. Now we all know -plot- thunder armor is pretty dumb, but i think its supposed to represent the guts ability that swellows have in game (still a pretty big stretch but thats just my thoughts on it)
Guts make sense, but Super Saiyan Swellow is also epic within itself :D
Other Pokemon always get underrated and forced to retreat when Ace Pokemon appears like Ash's hoenn ace was sceptile. Same is happening in journeys as Lucario is given much more screen time than gengar and dragonite
I started to apreciate swellow when it turned a lot of Ash's battles around in the league...
Especially with Katie... he really came through for him

Ash’s Swellow was the reason why I always had a Swellow on my team during my Emerald playthroughs (and there’s a ton of them haha). Always pictured it to be as determined to win as Ash’s Swellow. Pidgeotto/Pidgeot may be the first bird, Swellow feels to me like the OG Best Bird
I always caught the same Pokemon as Ash when I played the games :)
It seems Ash’s Hoenn team was all pretty weak until evolving. Makes me wonder how strong Corphish could become if it evolved considering how good it already is.

@@jlf6235 fun fact besides Torkoal Sceptile has the LOWEST win rate of the hoenn team members. Glalie was like Kingler in the sense of despite being barely used it dominated their respective leagues
Swellow has always been my favorite bird Pokémon in the anime's history. I really love how they dedicated 2 episodes (not fully tho, but still) to Ash and Swellow training for a new move. That's still something very very few of the other birds have achieved. Also Swellow's personality traits were more than an ocassional dance or goofy moment that never led to anything else. Swellow's overly stubborn, determined and almost masochistic personality was thoroughly defined and highlighted many times, especially during the Hoenn League. One key moment to understand its personality was when Tyson's Hariyama pushed Swellow towards a rock but the bird regained its composture and flew right back at it with a menacing and determined look. Ash was ecstatic about it, smirking after seeing his bird Pokémon having that kind of guts. I love how its been getting more deserved love in recent years, it deserves all that appreciation. Great video!

The best thing about Ash's Swellow is its original voice acting sounded wholesome to hear compared to newer one & it could work on learning newer attacks like Brave Bird or Work Up to replace Peck for its advantage & have more personality have such a passion for battling!

If I recall correctly, she was also an ace trainer, like with Astrid (a favorite of mine that seems to fly under the radar for most people). I wish we could've gotten to see her full rematch against Ash in the league, and I feel like she could've been an interesting character to give more screentime to than she got

Only time where it felt like Ash had two aces at a time in Sceptile and Swellow. I got mad though when something would happen like the gangs other Pokémon would get captured and Swellow would fly back to Ash. Like he’s a beast he should’ve dealt with the problem himself 😤. That would have shown different character development than Ash’s other birds

So glad you made this video! I think what holds Swellow back from being recognized as Ash's best bird is the fact that people remember DP better than AG and Swellow's only showing in DP was losing to Latios.
It needs to rematch Latios and get its revenge :)

It feels like the writers needlessly nerfed tailow when it first joined Ash, but gave its luster back just before it evolved.

Happy 1st day of September professor! 😀 I figured since it’s about this time a year of the beginning of the school seasons I figured I watch another one of your Pokémon explain videos, witch I like alot! they just bring so many great memories through out the entire Pokémon tv series! So I thought today I kick things off with one of my boy ash Ketchums Pokémon witch is one of his most fearless/stubborn/determined, bird Pokémon, I love swellows design and the color of its character! More importantly his bond with ash and I love his interactions with each of those characters in the anime. Also great video as well I would love to see you do both his Corp fish and sceptile from the Hoenn era as well. I look forward to seeing more of your videos both old and new ones! And I’ll let you know some of my thoughts on them too. 😁

Easily one of his most underrated Pokémon. Swallow kicked ass and was the first bird ash had that was a battle first and balloon popper/untility Pokémon’s second. Thunder armor was also foreshadowed too since it took so many electric attacks during its inaugural episode and wasn’t slowing down at all. I hate what they did to swellows 3D sprite in the games. I don’t blame ash for using it against Latios. I love his swellow so much I wish it learned an aor attack like hyper beam or heat wave as well as endeavor

Say what you want about Staraptor and Talonflame. They're cool and all but Swellow will always be my favourite of Ash's regional birds. It's tough, resilient and always willing to show it's strength. It always came to win.
Now touching on the Donphan in the room, Thunder Armor, yeah it's dumb but 1. It was still cool and we all know it and two when has Ash's Swellow ever gone down to an electric attack before? It has always taken them like a champ so it's not too Farfetch'd to say maybe Ash caught onto this and worked it to his advantage. That or this was the anime's beta showing of Guts. It was still explained abysmally and really doesn't make much sense but Thunder Armor was cool and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Swellow & Squirtle both laugh off electricity :) They should team up

Ash’s Swellow was the first regional bird that actually felt like a real fighter
I mean seriously, as just a Taillow it was capable of going against a Skarmory in the Poke Ringer, not to mention it landed a hit on Deoxys
It may not be the strongest Pokemon in Ash’s reserves, but it was the first bird to feel like a true warrior

@@ProfessorAlexSilver I hardly know anything about Ash’s Swellow or Staraptor. For me, Talonflame is Ash’s best bird. The reason why I don’t know much about Ash’s Swellow or Staraptor is that I’m a fairly new Pokémon fan. I got introduced to it by Journeys. I’ve seen the first half of Journeys, XY/XYZ, and a bit of Sun and Moon. I’ve heard that they’re really cool though. This video really helped!!

I think people forgot that Ash knows how to teach Aerial Ace. Made me real happy to see Leavanny use it later on in Gen 5 when they started to stop pretending that Ash was a fresh new trainer.
When May came to Sinnoh, her Beautifly also knew Aerial Ace, whether it was Ash that thought her or May tried to recreate Ash’s training, it was kinda neat that Beatifly learned the move. Maybe it even learned it by itself, to try and help May since she admitted that things became harder for her, so her Pokémon also tried harder.

To be honest, now remembering how Swellow to electric type attacks with stride. I’m a bit more forgiving of it. (Still an @$$pull though).

Perhaps all those times tailow withstood thunderbolt since the beginning was foreshadowing to thunder armor
I think it helped make thunder armor a lot more believe since we had already seen Taillow/Swellow shrug off so much electricity. It didn't come out of left field

I'll get to both at some point :) Though, I will admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Scraggy haha

I'm not sure what it was about Taillow & Swellow but I originally didn't like the Pokemon much & would never use it in all my replays of Sapphire but the 3d model of Taillow was just so adorable I had to use one in the remakes :)

The first time swellow catches my eye was when it got a series hits from donophan it took damage and just when donophan was going to kill it with one last hit swellow was able to wake up and carry an elephant and win the battle. I thought it was going to loose.
