- Some nice video from CJ Bolland working in the R&S Records studio (Techno Island) in Ghent in 1991.
He samples a sound from an analogue synth with his Emulator III and put it through a gate. (more) - Hudba
Nice. In '91, I was still trying to understand my reflection in the mirror.
such a legend! his production skills are off the scale
@Byron Bradley ok!
wow, sitting in front of a big mixer with all channels running synths, fx and beats.... like in a spaceship - those were the times! I think I buy now an analog mixer only because of this video :D
wicked...this man inspired me back in the day!
R&S’s number 1
CJ was in the Zone then, pure and simple..... shiiiiite, god bless house music!
I would love to see him compose camargue
thats mind blowing the lightbulb in my head went on when he said gate (since i dont know dutch) i understand with some production knowledge hes just bashing out samples but then making a rythem from gating it (i.e tom hit on a drum machine, gated to the emax output) amazing i need to try this
I have no fucking idea what he is saying, but whatever it is, he is right.
He is Belgian... just speaks dutch.
Let me help you here bro. i'm from the same country. he said that the sound comes from an old synthesizer with an electrical issue and he puts it in an effect and samples it to his PC, but the sound has no rhythm yet. with a small machine he calls the GATE he converts the long sound into short tones so that the signal triggers, such as: on/off/on/off so that there is some rhythm in already. then he adds a number of baseliners to have this marvel techno sound you heared.
peace Bro
Amazing
good old studio setups. yeahh
Suuuuuuuuugar Daaaaaaaaaddy,.........Sugar Daddy Ohhhhh Sugaaaar Dadddy Ohhhh ! ! ! - CJ Bolland
I need this bomb track!!!!
wow what a clip
Appears to be a W30 on the top rack!
goede inspiratie!
The Master himself
Atari ST with SM124 monitor! Fantastic! Anyway ,Akai might be good, but I don't think anything could touch the charisma of an 8 thousand dollar E-mu Emulaor II or who knows how expensive EIII
cj bolland 4EVA!!
oh damn in English:
bolland uses the gate for his track con spirito, Vangelis is runnig trough that gate
Cool he's got a Juno 2 above his EIII..
just as well by the sounds of it...
BETTER then the one in those days...:)and today you wouldnt be so proud if someone wouldnt be the role model and do that music to open your mind you YORK
Genius.......genius.......
@biglover70 Hehehehe.. Me too... STE 1024 + 4Mb expansion. It also appears that he's using an early version of Steinberg's Cubase from what I can tell :))))
I still remember those days with the long midi thru chains, FM synthesizers and the 12bit samplers! :'-)
enough producers stil produce this way
Ceephax!
Yes, I do! Viva Atari!
AGUANTE CJ BOLLAND BROOO
Yeah
Gaaf! 1991
@Andromatic a loss. sounded really good.
I have no idea which track this is - if it was released it would have been one of his best!
Cool Stuff still have an Atari in my basement :-)
he is on the legendary R&S studio´s..... so where is Renat V.????
and where is Cisco?
Saturday 2nd May CJ Bolland exclusively Live on Report2dancefloor.com - R2D radio
Did the track being mixeddown get a release? - if it did must be one I missed.
Known it yesterday from Christian...the recording was since 1990 and the tapes with track on them were stolen unfortunately, so no backup at all :-(
damn!
I know...
Different era.
that depends.
the emu emxes wwere much more reliable at the time.
while the akais in their rack form came handy when you used them wiht external controllers.
@turrican1024 yes this is an Atari ST1024, I own one :))
And what if do not wanna spel it right??
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the good old days..... that was extremely minimal computer use, love it. Today.... dont know, all the charm is gone cuz of FUCKING computer generated music which brings so much problems, too polished, too clean, too artificial stuff, sometimes you have to deal with all the fucken computer problems and viruses so you cant do anything until you fix it and some imcompetent people mix things too loud, fucks up the dynamics and we end up deaf hearing at the end, FUCK THE 2000s
I see he was using an Atari ST.
could you envelope filters with modeling software in 1991?
This was a state of the art electronic recording studio for the time. Worth way over 50k with all the gear.
Der gute alte Atari ST...
Loved this track, wounded it never got released. Maybe one day someone will find the tape.
Nope, this track has never been released. It seems that R&S lost the tape with the track.
Lol. This dude is of British blood and he is speaking Flemish. This is so weird.
Why is that weird? He moved to Belgium when he was 3?
Van helsing dracula Richard roxburgh
bant
AWE32+good modeling software=poor man's Emulator
Was that a Juno 2 on the rack?
Yes
dont you miss the good old analog?
You mean rompers and digital samplers running through an analog mixer?
@JFAINTER88 and you shouldnt be allowed to comment on this...
Atari stfm doing the recording
Anyone got any idea what desk that is?
Info from David Morley: the mixing desk is an Allen Heath Saber: ne-np.facebook.com/randsrecords/photos/a.99867352364/10159807125422365/?type=3

Much appreciated.
And you are what the other one??

You wouldnt be so proud if you wouldnt talk to a model. THIN LINE...
sorry MAN!!!
in een effectke steke... plezant ;-)
😃
What does he play is an existent track?
Nope, this track has never been released. It seems that R&S lost the tape with the track
@@Andromatic
Were you working with/for R&S at some point?
If so, would you know what bus compressor they were using at the time?
Thx
@@Gab-ct9pu No I'm not related to R&S Records so I can't help you with the technical details of the studio. Sorry 😉
@@Andromatic
Thx anyway 👍
@@Gab-ct9pu The compressor they used in the studio was a Valley People 610 gearspace.com/gear/valley-people/610 nice picture here: www.preservationsound.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/ValleyPeople610compressor.jpg
Is he speaking Flemish?
It's Antwaarps 😂
This track was recorded to tape in 1990 and the tapes were stolen so there is no copy of it and no files. IT'S A SHAME!!!" [CJ Bolland]
Not sure if this track would be fit for release.. Sounds not that great.. :)
one of the better tracks i heard lately imho. everything sounds out of tune but in place at the same time, love it!
no.your mother is.
Interesting but I prefer 100 X computer generated music, more cheap and powerful to reach complexity. Be serious, the problem today is that EDM is a total shit, they play and make the wrong music. I think that the musical scene today is so poor that you can't perceive how good are VSTs. It's all the same sound, sometimes more housy or electro or minimal but not a big electronic scene like in 90s.
for one. can i do this with a kaoscialator. yes. and better, this is pathetic with a capital P,
