  • We've been testing the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL for a few days now and decided to skip the usual unboxing. This is Google's attempt to create the best smartphone of 2019 but the Pixel 4 vs Pixel 3 question keeps coming up since not much has really changed. So with things like camera testing and battery life in our minds, lets review the Pixel 4 in comparison to the Pixel 3.

      @@wastedwalnut9788 The 4XL is really good, the only major issue with the 4 imo is the battery could be better, especially on the baby one. I'm gonna miss the original photos storage, but other than that, it's looking a big upgrade from my 2XL :)

  • @austin.paquette
    @austin.paquette Před 4 lety +2

    I'm a little disappointed with the removal of the wide angle front lens, but, the one single lens is a bit of a halfway point between the two on the 3, just like they did on the 3a. If you want wide, there it is. If you want a more default look, you can zoom in and knowing Google's camera software, there's probably no real discerning downgrade in quality.
    I'm not saying it's not a downgrade, but I think its better than just straight up not having a wide angle on the front anymore. There was an attempt to at least keep the feature, and in the selfie example you showed, the change in viewing degrees is really minor.

    Heavy Pixel 3 camera user here and also had a Pixel 1. Although removing the front-facing ultrawide really sucks, I'm not much into selfies so I only used it on rare occasions on my Pixel 3. There were occasions though that I wish I had a front-facing wide-angle - I sometimes had to flip my phone around and use the wide-angle and took shots blindly. So the 2x zoom was a really weird choice I thought at first but when thinking about it... the number of times that I zoomed-in to compose a shot on an object or subject at a long distance was more often than I initially thought. Since it's Google. I'm sure they have the metrics that let them know how people use certain features on their phones and the number of usages. I'm guessing those metrics have at least a small part in the decision-making process of adding, removing or modifying features on their phones.

    I was super hyped, but I'm disappointed by 64GB base storage, no more full quality Google Photos, no headphones or dongle in the box, 18W charging limit (AFAIK), low screen brightness, small batteries, lack of wide angle lens (front and rear), weak use of Soli, and removal of the second FFC lens. Like wtf. I used that almost exclusively, for group shots and landscape shots when traveling. Maybe next year Google will get it right...

  • @vlonebored

    The problem is these phones are engineered by HTC engineers. Google bought a major part of htc and claimed engineers, designers would work with google.
    Hence we got the squeeze feature, front firing speakers etc. Everything impressive about pixel is done by google originally which is software and the hardware is taken care by older htc engineers who work for google now who do a terrible job at it

    I've been a Pixel fan since the release of the 1st gen Pixel and upgraded every year but this year I don't bother getting the Pixel 4/XL because of the insanely high price tag vs what the current competition gives you. Besides this the Pixel phones of some inexplicable reason aren't sold in my country which makes it a hassle to get hold of one. This year I went for the OnePlus 7t which I think gives you a lot considering the value you get for a much lower price tag. My guess is that we will see big price drops on the Pixel 4 series similar to last year's series 3 since I don't think Google will manage to sell their phones as well as they hoped.

    I did pick up my 4XL in white the other day, so far it's weird to me, I'm used to the fingerprint sensor, but the face unlock is just as fast. The overall experience compared to my 3 XL is much smoother since my 3XL was having some pretty big hardware lag and jank. I would recommend for the base Android experience, but so far my impression is that I just need to get used to something different.

    they actually removed the standard selfie cam on the pixel 4 - the selfie cam of the pixel 4 is slightly less wide angle than the one on the pixel 3, but sharper and better in image quality, so i don't mind only having that option, as i was using the wide angle one on the pixel 3 most of the time anyways

    I think the Pixel 4 took a better selfie in that shot. Reasons are, you and the house look larger and there's less visible sky. The HDR, with the immensely white sky was taking all the focus off of you and it clearly helped the programs algorithm a little as your coat was darker, your face didn't get glare from the sky but as a whole, having a smaller picture brought you into better focus and I think 90% of the time, for front camera use, it's going to be more practical to see your main subject better, like it or not. lol
