  • www.woltersworld.com while observing the statues of Marx and Engles I thought of the past and thus here is the simple past in German. You have to form it with either haben or sein and then the past particple. You use haben with verbs that transfer action onto something else, for example eating, drinking, hitting, while you use sein for movement as in went, traveled, swam. The participles are made with adding "ge" to the beginning of the verb you are doing in the past and the ending changes. I went to Berlin - Ich bin nach Berlin gefahren. I drank a beer - ich habe ein Bier getrunken.

    with the past tense...
Ich habe gespielt is better if you are speaking with people, if you are writing then you would use the ich spielte...
    with the future tense:
you can do either one, neither is "better" it is more used as you would use them in English. Example, I'm traveling to Berlin tomorrow. Is just as good as I will travel to Berlin tomorrow. No really big difference.
hope that helped! thanks for watching and commenting! hope you will subscribe!

@travisman1994 That statue in Berlin was built as a historical reminder, not necessarily a tribute to communism. I remember that statue from my trip to Germany :)

Probably because Hitler was on a completely different level from Marx and Engles, i.e. a dictator and mass murderer versus two guys with an epic fail of a socioeconomic theory. I remember my German teacher telling us about how much guilt remains in Germany even today because of Hitler's actions. It's a very sensitive topic, and frankly, I can't blame the Germans for not wanting a statue of him... the history books are no doubt warning enough.
