    DIY Eagles helmet.
    Items you’ll need:
    Team color spray paint, primer, clear coat, a drill, sandpaper (1500, 2000 grit), painter’s tape, Bondo, sticker remover, and auto wax (optional), team decals, a chin strap and a used football helmet.
    After you’ve removed the old stickers, facemask, screws and pads,
    clean them up and set them aside for later.
    Start with the shell:
    Filling in the scratches using your Bondo, sand down the shell with your sandpaper
    Next, cover the helmet with a few layers of primer. Sand down with 2000 grit sandpaper (optional). Cover the primer with about three or four layers of your green paint
    The final layer is the toughest because your mistakes really show up here.
    Spray about three layers of clear coat.
    Facemask and pads:
    Repeat the steps for your facemask. You can hang it up using a dowel and thread.
    The pads use the same steps except I didn’t us clear coat. The gloss paint was enough.
    Make sure you allow plenty of time for the parts to dry.
    I waited a day between steps
    Once you’ve gathered all your pieces begin to reconstruct your helmet
    Take your time placing the decals. If you make a mistake you can use a blow dryer, set it on a low setting and pull up the sticker.

    This is s great tutorial. I've been refurbishing helmets for a little over a year. One thing I haven't done, is spray painted the pads. That's actually a good idea.

      Percy Pringle For me, the details really make a difference. The pros go with white pads, so I go with white pads. Thanks!

      Jakk B. that's true for Riddell helmets. I'm glad they make it easy to distinguish between a youth and adult helmet.
      youth is gray
      adult is white.
      Schutt helmets are a bit harder to differentiate

    The helmets are easy and cheap to find. Its the decals that are hard and expensive to find. I can usually find sweet helmets for 5-10 bucks at swap meets. But I'd never find the decals in a million years. Cheapest you'll find a decal set is online for about 25 bucks

    You’re the king! Thanks for this video! I’m customizing some helmets for my sons. I’ve done it before, but I wanted to get fired up before I put my wing decals on because I think it’s definitely the most nerve-wracking part. You should take a little time to explain the spacing of your wings. Nice work, beautiful helmet. Fly Eagles, fly!!!!!!!

  • @retromouseshenanigan2980

    I wish you posted a video of the way that you lined the wings up on this helmet. A lot of the helmets that I see have the wings closer in the front so that the bottom black line of the wing doesn’t line up to the facemask bar like yours does. I prefer the way you do it , but I was wondering how you lined it up that way.

    • @JakkBoxCreations
      @JakkBoxCreations  Před 5 lety

      The cheapest full-size replica Rev helmet is $140 on the Eagles’ site. This costed about 1/3 of that. But really, the idea was that it’s something fun you can make yourself. A few of my subs made it a project with their kids.

    • @keithsmith5480
      @keithsmith5480 Před 5 lety

      Totally agree and was not trying to be a jerk. Would be a great project and I think it is cool what you did. Replicas can be purchased for about $85 via other approved vendors for those individuals that don't have access to a work area or the ability to get the product. Looks very cool. Did not mean to insult. Thanks.

    Can someone explain what is primer please?

    • @JakkBoxCreations
      @JakkBoxCreations  Před 7 lety

      Default So the primer is basically a layer that prepares the item to hold your paint. Without it the paint likely won't stick to the helmet for long. Thanks for watching!
