Back here after 3 years, about to start watching the anime. Only found this song by chance, but it is still just as amazing as the first time i listened to it.
what an awesome ost. and what an amazing anime. watched it in a single day. it was so addictive and kept me on the edge of my seat. this is the only recent anime that was exhilarating. last year, it was Kaiji for me. If i watched this anime when I was a kid or a teen, I definitely would've wanted to become a navy officer. Thats how impactful this anime and especially this ost is.
Man that sweet sweet sax, just today i discover this anime by a random clip popping up on my CZcams page, instantly loved this, this is high quality anime like Cowboy bebob, Black lagoon, Space Battleship Yamato, tri gun, Ghost in the shell and the like.
This was a great Anime. Wish they would get around to making an OVA or a movie to finish off the series ^^. It was one of the best Animes out there that I watched in 3-4 days time. Loved how it made you think about the present and past while questioning what was the proper thing to do at either times.
There is an excellent book series called "Weapons of Choice: Book 1 of the Axis Trilogy" that is a sci fi series set in the later part of the 21 century (2070's I think). Quantum experiment goes wrong off the coast of East Asia and results in the combined fleet (US, Japan, UK, Italy, India, France, Germany) being ripped from their time and randomly distributed to the eve of the Battle of Midway, ships locations more random depending on how far away from the singularity they were. This results in effects seen during the Philadelphia Experiment (Ships phasing in and out, phasing into and fusing with one another). The WW2 US Pacific Fleet believes to be under attack and all hell breaks loose against a fleet far more advanced that has directed energy defense weapons and some what a form of energy shielding in the form of reactive, regenerative hull plating. All sailors are linked via implant aboard the future ships which catches the WW2 sailors by surprise as no one from the future appears to speak and a majority of the ships are hive mind capable to an extent. Good series, check it out!
For anyone interested, a fan translating group has picked this up and are continueing the manga translation! It's slow, but it's better than nothing, if you want more Zipang, there's always the manga!

someone needs to reboot this or better yet make a live action and popularize it. This kind of story premise is really good. If I was a story writer I would definitely try to write a story based on a similar premise.

Unfortunately, i think s2 will never happen :( Indeed zipang was amazing! The problem is that at the time(2004s) moe animes were the ones getting all the audience and sales like now the ecchi ones do! It's a shame that these kind of animes that don't have a good history and only have fan-service get continuations (s2, s3 and etc like High School DxD) because of the sales and etc. Another good military anime that did not got a season 2 and probably will never get on is\was Gate.

Is rest of the manga translated? When anime finiched, I could find just few chapters ahead in english in few more in japanese.
