I totally agree with Mike. You have to adapt the system to the players you have. You got Maatsen and Frimpong. Play them both in a line of 5. Schouten, Reijnders and Simmons mid field. Gakpo and whoever you wish to pair him with. I'm partial to Zirkzee. But actually commit to the attacks, launch forward and get numbers on the opposing field. I think the main issue of this team remains what the do when they DONT have the ball. No movement asking for the ball, no runs behind the lines. SO much space between them.
Sadly Koeman doesn't foresee many changes

1. The back line doesn't work. Ake is not a left back, van dijk and de vrij are too slow together.
2. Our midfield is, understandably, inexperienced and therefore somewhat weak.
I would play 5-3-2. Where the 5th defender is a flexible one with frimpong acting as both defender and attacker. I would play de ligt, van dijk and ake in the middle and van de ven on the right. De ligt can play fantastic on the right side, he shut down vinicius Jr completely in the CL playing there.
With van de ven we also get a speedy defender who's good at defending the penalty box. This formation also allows our strong, good-on-the ball defenders to make up for the weak midfield, going forward to assist schouten and reijnders.
Attacking third we play xavi, Memphis and Gakpo.

Good informative podcast. The Netherlands should advance, certainly the fanbase deserves at least one more victory march.
I am always very surprised that after a bad game (such as the one of Holland against Austria ) the idea is apparently that players purposefully didn't try their best, didn't follow strategy, or play bad. I believe that is a strange idea. They are not recreational players at a pickup game, they are all professionals that play with full intensity week in week out and even at practice. There is almost never a reason to be angry at eachother after a bad game. On the contrary, the manager and players need to support eachother instead of blaming eachother or themselves. Than they can openly and honestly analyse why the game did not go well. I hope Holland did just that and they can return to the level they showed especially in the last three friendlies and also often the first game against Poland.
I think it's all over for the Dutch, they seem clueless. We were lucky against Poland, lucky draw against below par France and Austria bought us back to reality.
Luckiest third place ever 😂 up to 1/8-1/4. Koeman have a time to work on mistakes. To 1/2 learn to handle with tops and finally .. win exhausted Germany/Sprain 😂

Why not start with with Weghorst from the start. He is hungry and can help the attack options. Depay is not #9.
Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Ake - No reason for Koeman to make change here. He did it with Austria, but he knew we was in next round.

This is knockout stage one bad game and you are out,malen on the right wing did not work how koeman did not sub him earlier I dont know constant pressure down the dutch right frimpong to come in.
It's going to be an easy win for Rumenia 3-0 the Dutchies are disorganized, weak and mess up garanteed.
Ahh we'll get at least one goal when we bring on star striker Wout 😆
