If you're finding yourself with a little less water time than usual, don't stress, it can be the perfect time to practise some SUP manoeuvres and techniques on dry land, getting you ready for when you do hit the water again. In this video Reuben gives you some tips to help make those step back turns or buoy turns. You can set yourself up to do this anywhere... in the garden or inside your house. Practising on land over and over again will increase your muscle memory, so when you get back on the water you will find it so much easier to do.

I would add ...Keep your head over the centre line of the board all the time and look ahead not down. Paddle surf style to develop the muscles in your legs needed to perform this manoeuvre. Unlike surfers, I find it easier to change front feet depending on a left or right turn (because I 'm not programmed to a 'preferred ' front foot like surfers)

Should we be practicing to turn on both sides? I''m right-handed but thought to turn the other direction you need to change your stance, I was trying the surfing stance on both sides, but in this video rather than you change sides, you just swapped the paddle side to the turn the other way.

Yes just swap paddle sides and keep you feet in the same stance. Nearly all SUPers find it better to stay in your most comfortable stance. Thanks Reuben

Would using the trampoline help me to practise standing up as well ~ far more basic than this turn! But just wondering if the trampoline would mimic a bit if the waters wobble?

Anything can help if it's to do with balance! We would recommend trying balance specific products like balance boards to help improve. A bigger board on the water will help you to stand up too. Good luck! Beau
