Replacing the Oven Igniter in a Samsung Gas Range - Model FX710BGS

  • #MundaneMan repairs a #Samsung Gas Range oven where it will not heat up and the fix is replacing the igniter for the lower burner.
In the video I did not talk about turning off the gas to the range. It is always best practice, when working on any appliance, to turn off the gas and/or turn off the power. While it may sometimes seem unnecessary - safety first!
FYI, when I tested the new part, some smoke came off of it the first time it was heated. This is normal and is only residue from the manufacturing process.

@@mundaneman254 Thanks, this is my specific model. I am not mechanically inclined and kept wondering why only two screws in the back when all the other models seem to have 4 screws. So until I saw your video I had no courage to open it up. My screwy fruitcake Mom managed to drop two shrimp in the bottom slit and now I gotta fish them out. Now I have the confidence to do it instead of paying some service charge. God bless you Sir. Followed and subscribed to you for saving my hide and saving me some $$$

OMG thank you. I have a Samsung NX58H9500WS slide in range whose oven stopped heating a few days ago. This video was terrific. Who would've thought that if you can use a screw driver you can repair an oven? I'm a 60 year old woman, generally handy but I'd have never attempted it without seeing this video.
My oven is slightly different than the video: an extra screw holding the heating element to the oven back and two electrical connectors on the igniter. (I dissassemebled and took a look before ordering a new igniter just to be sure. I found the part: OEM SAM-DG94-01012A was $163 BUT AT amazon ERP DG94-01012A Oven Igniter at $21 was identical.
I followed the video instructions and my oven is working again!
    Thanks thanks thanks

Tom; thank you for the video. I just fixed my oven thanks to your help.
    Three comments:
    1. All of my little screws except for one were locked-in and they strip very easy. I had to Dremel one out.
    2. My lower drawer does not have little tabs to release it. It also has more screws (see#1).
    3. Because of #1 & 2 above, I chose not to remove the lower drawer and was able to pull the wire connections up far enough to reconnect the new igniter as well as make sure the gas pipe was reinserted properly.
For anyone else doing this; you may be able to not remove the lower warming drawer and still safely do this job if your wires are long enough.
Thank you again for the great video.

Thank you. Your video was most helpful in repairing the defective oven igniter in my Samsung oven, which failed exactly 2 years and 1 1/2 months from the time it was purchased and installed and just 1 1/2 months after the expiration of the warranties. Certainly doesn't convince me that Samsung makes a reliable and reputable product. But thanks to your video and firms that sell non-oem parts, I repaired it for about $22. The price for the OEM part from Samsung cost $120, and if I had to call a repair service the final bill would have been over $200.

This was super helpful!!!! So clear and straightforward that it gave me the confidence to do it myself, and it was exactly as Tom showed. I was able to find an ignitor compatible with my Samsung - happened to be Whirlpool - at a local appliance part shop for $45 and it even had the exact same plug already attached, so no wire stripping needed. (Appliance dealer gave me one piece of advice that might be helpful and that was not to let my fingers come in contact with the ceramic surface b/c he said body oils could then cause it to spark. Don't know if that's true, but it was easy to install w/o touching that part.) THANKS, TOM!!!!

The only thing that our range did differently was that the door needed to be closed for the full ignition to happen. @Kevininchico, I am curious to learn how old your Samsung gas range was before you had this issue. Is it heavily used? It seems like alot of people have had the same issue when looking into this. Mine was very lightly used/clean and happened at the worst time (turkey etc ready to go in and I know nobody who could take our food and cook it for 6 hours to avoid waste/money). In this pandemic and our 3rd lockdown in Ontario and no one working to repair etc. Awful timing and shouldn't have happened already.
Did you notice that the temp starts out as 175° in a cool oven when staring to program the temp etc? Should show 0° I think. Another fellow in here noticed the same-we are both curious. (I'd call Samsung again but I was on phone for a VERY long time today with them already and got nowhere.) Curious. Thanks

Mission accomplished. $ 17 part from McCombs Supply. A solid, no b.s. walk thru guide. Only hiccup I experienced was not getting reattaching tube over the tiny semi-hidden gas nodule, but saw the gas was not evenly distributed and it was a quick fix.
Total about 1 hr , with some serious cleaning as I progressed through :-)

Great video, I replaced the igniter, but I still had the same issue. It turned out some of the burner tube holes were dirty and clogged, especially next to the igniter, I cleaned them out with soft brass brush, and now it's working perfectly.

Thank you! Thank you! Your video saved us an expensive service call and got our oven back up and working. We have the same Samsung Gas Range as you (LOVE it), so your video was really easy to follow. This is our first experience with a Samsung range. It is only 8 years old, so was really bummed when I thought we would have to replace it. I found the oven igniter part on Walmart.com. Made sure it had the plug because I didn't want to have to do any splicing. With tax, it was $18...and free shipping. Between myself, my husband and our 12-year old son (he has "piano" fingers and was able to get the back screws started for hubs). It took us about 30 minutes...a couple of the screws were really hard to undo and I had to keep going to our desktop to view the next step. Tested it out before putting everything back and IT WORKED! We were without our oven about a week and as they say "you don't know what you have until it is gone". Some of these CZcams videos have been so helpful...fixed our "leaking" washer last year thanks to a video. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!

Great video. I bought the replacement part online and watched your video. The install worked great. One thing to note, when you put the burner element with the new igniter back on, be sure that the gas line goes into the end of the burner. The first time I put it back together, the gas line was not lined up with the inside of the burner and a huge flame was leaping up the back of the oven and the burner didn't ignite. After I lined up the gas line perfectly into the end of the burner, the gas was then diverted inside the burner element, the igniter glowed and the burner finally ignited just like it shows in your video. That was a good tip of testing it before putting all the covers back on. That saved me time and extra frustration. Also if you have no continuity between the two wires of the ignitor, you know it's shot. I got an ohm reading on my new one, which was a good sign.

Thank you so much for this video. For a single mom with no idea how to fix a gas oven, I took a chance hoping this was the part I needed. Got my son to help me and thanks to your video, it worked and now I can bake again! You had very clear and easy to understand instructions. The only problem I had was a screw that was stuck and took a while to loosen. Luckily my igniter I ordered came with the plug attached.

Thanks so much! This video saved me a lot of money. My Samsung oven (model FX710BGS) stopped heating and gave error code E-08. I bought the Hot Surface Oven Igniter, Capilary 12in L off Amazon for 16 bucks, installed it, and my oven is now working again! Thanks again for this great video.

Thanks Mundane Man. This was super useful. Bought the replacement igniter on Amazon < $30. Should have been a 30 minute task. One of the screws that attaches the tube got completely stripped. I tried everything to get that thing out but the placement was very odd. Anyway, ended up spending about 4 hours trying various things to remove the stripped screw. Ended up just sawing the head of the screw off manually. It was fun. Got it out finally and all works well. Anyway, instructions were great. Thanks again.

Thanks for this confidence boosting video. I don't think I would have attempted this without seeing it. It took hardly any time to change out the part. I purchased the part online from Genuine Appliance Parts for $59. It was the exact same part with the connector attached. I sure you saved me a whole lot of $$ and after waiting a week for my boyfriend to replace it, I did it myself!!!
