    ABOUT: Littmann Classic III Raspberry Rainbow Stethoscope Review
    The Littmann Classic III is like Queen Elizabeth The II - been around for a long time but still kicking goals! WATCH REVIEW VIDEO HERE
    This stethoscope was the first Littmann I ever had. It was dark green and not much to look at, but boy did I love it!
    When it was eventually stolen (to this day I think it was a Doctor! I will find you and I will kill you, jokes!) I was devastated.
    I really think this stethoscope is a great all-rounder. Suitable for the student Nurse but also the seasoned Nurse.
    This is my personal honest review of the Littmann Classic III. WATCH REVIEW VIDEO HERE
    I hope you will enjoy it and that it may help you in your search for a new stethoscope.
    As usual, don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have any suggestions of stethoscopes that you would like me to review 😁 I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have about this stethoscope or any other stethoscopes that I've reviewed in the past.
    Remember guys, Queen Elizabeth The II still rides a horse for goodness sake! 😂
    May you have a good shift 🙏
    Sincerely

    I am a medical assistant and bought one in Navy Blue. It is EXTREMELY good quality! I mean, it's a Littmann so I expected it would be decent but when I first opened the box and tested it on my family, I was astonished by how clear the acoustics were.

    Great Video, I was a Paramedic and used to use the Master Cardiology and honestly it was so loud and picked up everything on the ambulance it was hard to use. Now with my soon to be step daughter going into nursing school I looked into this Classic III and came across your video, You answered all of my questions and sold me on it. Surprisingly enough raspberry and rainbow is the exact color combo I was going to pick out for her so it was nice to see that color combo in a video. Thanks for a great Video!

      thats so awesome that ive seen your comment. Im going into emt school and need to buy a stethoscope. We were obviously told littmann is a good brand. ive been trying to decide between this one and the adc 603. the adc is cheaper but everyone says littmann. im also trying to decide if i should purchase it from the 3m littmann store on amazon. there are so many positive reviews but others saying its fake and im afraid i wouldnt be able to tell the difference because my only medical training currently is pharmacy tech. if you and jenny could help me that would be great, thanks!

    Adult side diaphragm falling off had been an issue with my Classic 3 but 3M stands behind the product. I called them (google the number) and received a brand new kit (ear pieces, adult, pediatric side cover, and an O ring) free of charge within 3-5 days. Now, it is a very tight fit again. As a home health Nurse it is in daily use and it is an excellent tool!!

    Thanks

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 2 lety +2

      First of all the Classic III is heavier, meaning the tubing is thicker and a little more weight to the chest piece. From memory you don’t get the option to turn the pediatric side from an open bell to a diaphragm. In my experience the Classic II is just a little more ‘flimsy’ than the Classic III if that makes sense. There’s more quality in the Classic III but that doesn’t mean the Classic II wouldn’t work perfectly for measuring blood pressure, listening to bowel sounds etc.. essentially the Classic III is an upgrade from the Classic II. Hope that helps!

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 3 lety

      Hi Mohammad 👋 yes, that is an issue with these stethoscopes unfortunately. I don’t think a Classic II would be any better in that regard. I know you can buy new spare diaphragms if you loose them but that’s means spending more money. There are other stethoscopes out on the market that are very similar to the Classic III but that doesn’t have the problem of the diaphragms falling off. Check out my other stethoscope reviews! 👍 Thanks for watching ☺️🙏 Jenny

    Hi. What is the purpose of removing pedia. And making it open bell. When you can adjust frequency by pressing it down?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Daniel, great question!
      The tunable diaphragms are specific to Littmann. But you have a point, as I’ve tested a lot of stethoscopes I can tell you that the diaphragms are all largely constructed the same way and you could argue that they are all tunable. Some stethoscope users prefer the open bell for the low frequency sounds as its use is not dependent on a variable such as how much pressure you put on the chest piece. Someone who is just learning how to differentiate and detect different frequency sounds may want to use an open bell rather than wondering if they’re applying the right pressure to even detect them. Open bell vs pediatric diaphragm is also a personal preference, some people like the look of one or the other and won’t care so much about the different frequencies as they may not even be looking for them.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 5 lety

      I’m pretty sure the stethoscopes on Amazon are brand new but they do have a section just below where people have returned and you have the option to buy them.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 3 lety +2

      Not a dumb question at all! The open bell is used to detect lower pitched sounds, like some heart murmurs and some bowel sounds. The diaphragm side is used to detect high frequency sounds. So for me, working in a med/surg unit, I don’t really use the open bell much at all. But if you are doing detailed cardiac assessment I understand you need to use the open bell as well. Hi MiddleAgedMassive! Thank you so much ☺️ yes I would say it suits that age group. There is a Littmann for infants (it’s tiny) but I think that’s more suited for people working primarily with infants or in the NICU. Hi Bharat S G! Yes definetly, I think this stethoscope would suit both those areas for sure. The only way you're gonna get a "better" stethoscope is if you buy a cardiology stethoscope which has dual lumen tubing instead of single lumen. But to me personally, if you don't work in a respiratory specific unit where you auscultate lungs all day long or listen to heart sounds/murmurs, this stethoscope will do just fine for those basic respiratory assessment including abdominal assessments. How does this compare to the Master Classic??

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 4 lety

      Hi Matthew,
      Do mean the Master Cardiology or the Master Classic II?
      The Littmann Master Cardiology I would say is a step better in acoustics just cause it's got dual lumen tubing and it's a cardiology stethoscope/.
      I haven't tried the Littmann Master Classic II but it doesn't have the turnable chest piece so I would be more likely to go for the Littmann Classic III. With that said it's probably a great stethoscope to start out with.

      @@NurseJenny Master Classic II. I have that Stethoscope as well and found it gave me better sound than my previous Classic II as it had thicker tubing. Now that the Classic III has the same thickness as the Master Classic II, it'll be interesting to hear the sound difference if any

    How to clean the stethoscope after using with the patient during the pandemic? Can I clean it with alcohol?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 2 lety

      I’ve heard that sometimes, cleaning the tubing with alcohol (like alcohol wipes) can make the tubing a bit sticky, so be careful with that. You could definitely clean the binaurals and the chest piece with alcohol wipes. I usually recommend wiping the stethoscope down with your hospital cleaning wipes between patient use.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 3 lety +1

      To listen to yourself? If that is all you’re going to use it for and not for clinical practice, then I’d suggest you get a single lumen tubing stethoscope that is not too expensive. Check out MDF’s and ADC Adscope’s range. A Littmann Classic III would be fine too but I think you’d be ok with something cheaper as well 👍 Nurse Jenny

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 3 lety

      I would suggest you engrave the chest piece. I haven’t seen many engravings in tubing and doing so may compromise the integrity of the tubing 👍 Good luck with your first stethoscope! 😊🙌😃

      Geraldine Tan Good question! All Littmann stethoscopes should have the logo on the diaphragms and “Littmann” engraved on the chest piece, so if yours doesn’t I’d be a little suspicious. Where did you buy it from? How are the acoustics?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  Před 5 lety +6

      Hi Mark! Oooh that's a tough one.. I feel like you would be more than ok with a classic III initially but then I imagine you would go on to listen to specific heart sounds (I think, I mean I've never been a med student, just assuming!) and then you may need a cardiology stethopscope. The cardiology stethoscopes have dual lumen tubing so the sound is just that little bit more crisp but in saying that I'm perfectly ok with a single lumen stethoscope such as the classic III hiwever, I don't do a lot of listening to heart sounds. I have a feeling you would be better off with a cardilogy IV unless you don't want to spend that much money for your first stethoscope, then you could get a classic III, see how you feel, and then invest in a cardilogy IV. It's a hard choice!!! Gosh, I hope that helps and that I haven't confused you even more! :) Thanks for watching Mark

There's kids in our service that wear their 120$ littmans across their necks. Funny thing is they are the same kids that leave it on their necks and make up vitals in route
