Michael is a genius forever...
After he released They don’t care about us,it was basically him against the United States. He said nothing but the truth which the system didn’t like so they banned the song full on until he re-recorded some parts. It still hasn’t gotten the playtime it deserved since it’s a heavy song which literally exposes the higher powers in our countries. I feel like this is the Song that got him k.lled besides the fact that they didn’t like the impact he had on the world as a black man. He could’ve changed more than any government or president could do. Literally. The only way they could’ve stop him from speaking up against those who support injustice and everything is by getting rid of him permanently.
Little fact about the Brazil version:

I had already watched your reaction last year on the Brazilian version which makes it the second version of which there are also two versions: a short and a long one. Brazilian voices that call out to Michael in Portuguese singing the title of the song. The videos were shot by Spike Lee.
This song "They Don'T Really Care About Us" is one of my favorites in the middle of the 90's and especially of this double album I think the best at the approach of the end of this fabulous decade and which is full of "hits" in power especially this one. It was released in March 1996 and ranked no.4 in TOP 50, becoming Silver dsic (208'000 copies sold).
The song itself delivers a very strong and political message to denounce racism, intolerance and persecution.There is also despite this, if you pay attention, another level of reading which refers to the singer's legal problems 3 years earlier.
Did you know that MJ had already started composing this song at the time of the Dangerous album in 1990?
As you said, unfortunately, the lyrics are still relevant if we refer to what happened last year in the USA, the "Black Lives Matter" movement. This prison ver sounds much truer than the two Brazilian versions and the singer's message is even stronger.
Moreover, a few months later, Spike Lee decided to propose a new version of the videoclip In August combining the two Brazilian and prison versions with images of this movement.
