      @Plume Brisée It does work but it sends at a more horizontal angle which makes back air a better choice if you can land it in similar situations.
      Tipman is a semi-spike which sends at a much lower angle and allows for much stronger gimps either from ledge or juggling positions that none of his other hitboxes can achieve.

    I love that one fix is fixing poor design, one is fixing an honest mistake, and one revolutionizes a top-tier character's meta LMAO
    Like imagine if Falcon had had access to tipman for the last 20 years. Maybe S2J wouldn't have been famous for his poor edgeguards. I'm sure Wizzy's edgeguard flowchart would be even cleaner. And I don't even want to think about the nasty things None would do with it.

      It's truly terrifying to imagine how good Falcon would've been with tipman. Edge guarding isn't his strong suit so that would really help one of his weakest areas. Ledge hop upair would be devastating on people recovering.

      @@Soulraven2735 superficially and at entry level play, yes. Ganon's upair, jab and fair are very strong at beating predictable recoveries. However, Ganon is mid tier for a reason. Once your opponents get good enough to the point where their recoveries won't be as predictable then suddenly Ganon won't be able to keep up. This is when Falcon's tools (weak knee, rising stomp, bair mostly) will become better, because Falcon as a high tier just has more options to deal with better opponents. The options Falcon has are harder to execute so it won't be obvious that they're better until you've quite good at the game and are consistently facing strong opponents that require strong tools to deal with them.
      I think it's great that you're dual maining at this point. When you start out it's important to just do whatever is fun to engage with the game and keeps you playing. I'd recommend just keeping in mind that if you ever hit a plateau where you feel like Ganon just cannot keep up then that's probably not your imagination, and you might have outgrown the character at that point.
      It will also always be good to have him as a pocket pick for specific matchups/players, and this means you can avoid playing into Ganon's unwinnable matchups (Fox, Marth & Falcon, arguably Sheik and Falco but those aren't quite as bad).

      @@Soulraven2735 that's an interesting follow up question, but I don't think so. It would be great for him and make him overall stronger, but the main issue that Falcon actually has isn't edge guarding, it's neutral, disadvantage and recovery. Falcon has enough tools currently to edgeguard perfectly proficiently (he is definitely the worst high tier character at it, but still miles better than mid or low tiers), they are just harder to utilise.
      Even though Falcon would become better, he is already solidly 6th on the tier list. I can't see a case for why he would be above Sheik (especially considering recent Sheik dominance), he could *maybe* be better than Falco to obtain the 5th spot exactly, but there will always be a clear tier difference between him and the god tier characters (Fox & Marth) and he will always be worse than Jiggs.

    Tbh i wouldnt mind these fixes being applied to tournament settings and/or slippi. even if it means (slightly) buffing top tiers like falcon and puff, i think for the sake of yoshi mains these changes would be pretty fair and good overall

      I feel like this would create more problems then it fixes.
      It would divide the community between implementing fixes and no fixed melee, and top players may have differing opinions so they may only choose to compete in tournaments which agree with their opinions. This would have knock on effects to local scenes and also yearly rankings as tournaments with vastly differing rulesets and metagames need to be accounted for.
      Fizzi would also have to choose between keeping the old version or changing to the new one for Slippi, probably promoting outrage.
      I think, even with all the broken, janky dogshit melee has, it doesn't need to be changed. At least not in this way.

      I don't think the characters should be changed for standard tournament play, but it'd be awesome to be able to easily apply these mods within projects like Slippi or Akaneia. That's essentially how the Doom community works - there's options for purists, people who want to turn the game into something entirely different - and everyone inbetween :D

    cap's missing hitbox is a direct paralell to luigi's dash attack. one seemingly accidental missing hitbox leads to an incomplete move and future devs assume it was intentional

    As a game developer, I’m baffled by all the z-axis stuff (like in the case of yoshi’s grab) but I also understand that building an engine in such a short time wasn’t easy. I’m pretty confident you can check for collision interactions between characters while discarding the z-axis instead of modifying his hitbox. This will even make the calculations required to do so much faster.

      With 3D models operating in a 2D plane, you can either model collision in the 3D world or flatten it (or even separate it entirely) into a 2D world. You could argue benefits and drawbacks for both approaches.
      The 2D approach can get you more consistent results, particularly when character models and animations are a bit free with their 3rd dimension use (like Yoshi moving his head so far off the 2D plane.) At the same time, you lose those realistic variations that 3D collision creates, like Yoshi being able to dodge some attacks *because* he moves his head so far from the 2D plane.
      You can get 2D collisions that look acceptable for most cases, but which look really bad for certain scenarios or models. Take a hypothetical example of a character that extends his arm at a 45 degree angle to the 2D plane. A "thin" attack (like a laser bolt) traveling along the 2D plane would rather visibly never hit that arm, but a "wide" attack like a horizontal slash or large spherical explosion might hit the arm even if the character's torso is out of range. If you want to implement a 2D-only collision system, then do you treat the arm as collidable or not? If you do, then you will also be creating new balance concerns. If you don't, then people will wonder why attacks that clearly envelope the arm still don't hit it.
      You can see this kind of 3D/2D wonkiness in some 3D fighters that have 2D collision, and even some of the balance concerns. For example, in Street Fighter V you might have to push into the chest of an abnormally large character like Abigail to even get into close attack or throw range, his 2D collision boxes can be much smaller than his 3D model implies.
      Honestly, 2D fighter hitboxes can look pretty awful when you examine them. It gets even worse once hit and hurt boxes start getting tweaked and rebalanced, but the character animations remain the same. 2D fighters may also use intangibility/invulnerability to inaccurately mimic effects that would have come naturally with 3D collisions. And that doesn't even get into Arc System Works' wonky solution of turning half of someone's body intangible to *specific* attacks just to create a desired behavior. (Seriously, if you feel the need to turn someone's entire upper body intangible so their jab can successfully function as an anti-air, then you really should instead be rethinking why you want a *horizontal* jab to function as an anti-air in the first place.)

    The z axis is vertical. Yeah, for some reason, the axes move around when you go from 2d to 3d. It's always been a pet peeve for some reason.

      Well in 2d, x and y can either be horizontal and vertical (Super Mario Bros), or both horizontal (Legend of Zelda). So I guess it's based on the latter
