- Having lived in Kennedy Town for 4 years, I'd always wondered what happens if you don't get off the MTR and go to the forbidden lands instead. Unfortunately it's not a portal to another dimension.
Usually staff comes in to check for people who forgot to get off (and I admit, once I fell asleep and thankfully they saved me).
But this time I intentionally stay inside the train, to find out what secrets lie after the Kennedy Town station.

Don’t attempt this because sometimes trains will be taken out of service after they switch directions (so you’ll go straight to depot instead of the other platform), or there might be sidings where the train will just park for the day. Especially after rush hour when the frequency of services drops. This can cause a lot of trouble for the staff.

as a hongkongian,I can tell you that on the other side the train turn around IN the station and the trains return to the depot by stopping service and turning around and then switching tracks (similar to when the train goes to the other platform)

He's lying, don't believe him!! Normally, the trains get deleted after the terminal station, and respawn on the other side of the track. And if you stay on the train you should fall onto the track 😡😡

This was my dream when I was a child, going further the last station and discovering things mostly people would have never seen
Just a reminder, the area inside the turnback siding is off-limits. If you enter, the train captain won't be able to see you until the train arrives at the station. It's important to know that passengers have no insurance coverage inside the sidings. Therefore, if you get injured or worse while inside, the insurance won't provide any compensation. Additionally, entering this area is considered trespassing, which could lead to legal consequences. Please exercise caution and stay safe.

In singapore , when an MRT train has reached the terminus, staff will remind you to leave and only give the clear signal for the train commander to go when everyone has alighted.
Usually they will do that here too, I think I got lucky with my positioning

@@mariosphere they dont and they physically cannot, trains are parked up right and their wheels cant lock onto the rails, so if it turned upside down, itll fall from the tracks

Don't use this CZcams video as a safety guarantee. There are no warnings if they turn on the human slicing machines at the reverse sidings.
Tested it, technically legal iirc, but I did that half a year ago so...
both ends are stations with island platform and trains will stay at the platform for the next departure.

As a person living in hk, you’re very lucky, because usually the train goes to the depot instead of the station so next time please don’t risk it, you can go for days without water or food at the depot.

I really want to try this but i don't have the balls to do it, I think about it every time when I take the East Rail Line (EAL) to Admiralty and when I almost got it once, a staff told me that it was the last station and I have to get off, so I stopped trying from then on, but I still really want to experience the train turning back in the tunnels.

You cant do this at any of the subway lines in Bangkok. Thats because security guards with whistles in their mouths, station masters, and cleaners with brooms and dustpans enter the cabin at the terminal stations before the train is allowed to make a 180.
Who's here getting this in their Recommended after learning about the tourist needing to pay HK$200 to get to Disneyland from Kennedy Town cause they've thought they could close the distance as the in-car network map (2:31) shows the park being close to it? Despite being on another island? 😂
Something similar happened to me. I went to Moscow with my family. When we arrived to airport metro station, we thought people disembarked train bc it was an emergency but we stayed and we went. After we used a button, someone said something and train went to the other platform

This phenomenon is even clearer in Tsuen Wan Line, where beyond Tsuen Wan Station terminal it will be the same thing as you experienced, but the entire section is on ground level.
I used to live at a building next to the track which I can clearly see the trains go beyond the terminal, stops somewhere, and goes back to the terminal on the other side.
But yes, seeing it is fun, but trying it is not. I am not familiar with the legal stuffs anymore since I no longer live in Hong Kong, but according to the other comments I believe it might lead to a fine, or imprisonment if things go worse.

There was a military camp (coded Borrett) built under Mount Davis next to Kennedy Town in WWII, it was built to assemble military equipments and test them at Green Island opposite, they even built a military hospital nearby (now Queen Mary hospital?), tons of equipments were shipped to support the UK warships at Wan Chai port from 1935 - 1955, the camp is still in used today (maybe the Chinese took over?)... Usually the final 2 rides of the MTR at night will head to the camp for pickups and anyone who accidentally arrives at the camp will be questioned for 2 days and if proven innocent, they will release the person back onto the train but will first lock that person in a light room and he/she will lost track of time and partial memories, then the person will return to Kennedy Town station not remembering anything and believe he is still on the same train and the same ride before entering the camp, the person will have a short duration of blindness (just like in this recording he cannot sense MTR lights when arriving the station) but has quickly reinstalled the connection... I sincerely congratulate this person to have returned safely and unharm back to Kennedy Town.

If you know the fact, the island line was designed to connect Cyber Port and Wah Fu. So there is a section of tunnel under Mt. David for that purpose. It is now to be used for the train turnaround. You don’t need to try it by yourself which is illegal and subject to fine if caught with intentional purpose.

As a Hong Konger, definitely had always thought of what is in the tunnel beyond the last stations, turns out it's just an empty void as the train travels through a wormhole to go to the other side. Also, damn is it weird for me to see from a perspective this tall 💀
must be so interesting having such a complex metro. I live in an european city with only 3 lines, the craziest thing that could happen that the driver would notice you when hes changing directions. However, you could also get into the depot from a few station, but police will be just called on you.
It's pretty convenient! With the MTR + buses, I think you can reach like 99% of Hong Kong.

in some end stations, there isnt a limbo state and the train just reverses location, only one i know is Po Lam

I did that in Tiu Keng Leng once, though that was because the strap of my bag got stuck between the cars and staff had to accompany me while they tried to get it out😂

When the train terminates in Tiu Keng Leng Station, if you don't get off the train, the driver will shout through the speaker to call you to leave the train

In Washington D.C., the metro trains would immediately start boarding passengers at the terminal station on the same platform it came in from and just uses the cross-tracks while heading back in the other direction to get on the correct side by the next station

@@spaghetticode3107You can take Citybus 8P from Chai Wan to Wan Chai, vice versa, in about 30 minutes. Citybus route 8P is an express route that travels along the Island East Corridor, it is one of the most frequent scheduled bus routes on Hong Kong Island, it is also one of the bus routes which is faster than taking the MTR (eg. from Chai Wan to Causeway Bay, route 8P usually arrives first if there’s no traffic jam)

This isnt only in hong kong, there are other cities/metro systems that do this. (That is, if the terminus is below ground level.)
I can’t remember what tube line it is in London but at the end of one line, there is no end, while it says it’s the last station,you can stay on the train and all it does is literally go round a big loop and goes back into the opposite platform,
In Madrid it actually says on the rulebook that the driver (normally assisted by security guards, while the driver does not leave the cab, just opening the interior cab door) must check that the train is empty, and if not, must spam the PA, shout, or, if needed, a special three long whistle pattern to alert security at the station, or other drivers on their private room.

@@basillah7650 Not in Madrid, as normally you have a whole team of guards (normally one/car) checking *very* thoroughly every corner.
In Budapest they have security guards and CCTV but if it looks like you're sleeping they don't really care if you stay, as long as the train is just turning around and not leaving service. Here the trains go to a siding, the doors remain closed and the driver walks to the other end to drive from there, so they'll see you no matter what.
If it's going to the depot they check the train multiple times and kick everyone out.
There was an incident once where a driverless train decided to go on strike and took everyone to the depot 😅

It's easy to get a train from Admiralty in one straight way . Don't worry that you will be stuck there. It's able for you to get back by return trains though it is a closed boundary area if you don't exit
