  • When I ordered my Aprilia Tuareg 660 I also ordered some official Aprilia accessories for the motorbike. The Engine and Frame Guards (Tuareg Perimetral Guard) arrived at my dealership Brighton Moto (www.brightonmo...), so I thought I would show you how to install the engine & frame guards onto an Aprilia Tuareg 660 motorcycle. It is relatively simple, but you will need a torque wrench as well as some other basic tools.
If you have not done so already, do take a look over at my other social media, I am active on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram, & you'll get sneak peeks into possible upcoming videos that may interest you!

I'm impressed how the fixing holes lined up with no bending or manipulation unlike many other frame & engine bars.
They fitted quite easily. Nice one.👌
The side bars look quite small compared to others, but actually they are positioned where the tank panels will make contact the ground. And of course being smaller with less tubing will mean saving weight which is always a good thing. 👏👌🤞👍

    Hi Hippo
Just fitted Motea Protection bars to my Tuareg.
Iam sure you found that as i did the front 2 M10 engine bolts had Yellow factory Torque marks & were at a lower torque than the 2 rear M10 with the Red factory torque marks. (could have been Orange) As in Industry Red is usually used to indicate a fastener must be renewed for some reason.
Torqued the bolts to 50 NM (checked in the official service manual) but ]i still believe the factory used different figures front & rear as there would be no need to use different colours otherwise.
The factory seems to use different colour torque marks around the for the different torques or maybe for the wrenches used. Green is also used on some other fasteners.
A tip i would pass on is, before undoing a fastener from the factory setting make your own torque marker line across half the bolt head or nut continuing down the side onto the material area at the side.
So to return the fastener to the same torque re tighten until the markers line up again.
Especially useful for wheel spindle fasteners were you might be out on the road with no access to a torque wrench (even if you know the correct torque)
I tend to use white marks on the l/h side of the bike & yellow on the right.

    • @HippoDrones

Hey @brie6966 thanks for the tip :-) that makes good sense! :-)

I’ve installed the Aprilia Pannier racks, panniers, crash guards and aux lights on my Taureg. All from the Aprilia accessory catalogue. One thing I’ve noticed is how they are designed to fit correctly without being forced to bend or contort the pieces to line up with the bolt holes. I can’t tell you how many bikes I’ve owned where accessories are built to much less exact specs.

Those engine bars are very tasty, a nice install again too. I want a bike with engine bars purely as it makes mounting a 360 so much fun :D I must get some prit-stick locktite, looks a lot handier than my liquid stuff. Haha 50 +/- 15 is a bloody massive tolerance, that was the same as my steering damper on the GSXR, head nut was 70 +/- 20 :D

That was one of the things I loved about the V85TT, it was the best bike for mounting a 360 camera to, frame bars everywhere! I was just looking at the Tuareg just now working out where would be good 360 mounting points for tarmac and also for dirt.
Hahaha, yeah it made me chuckle, but 50 is a nice number, so that is what it got... that reminds me, I need to check the rear spindle nut as I didn't have a torque figure for that (owners handbook doesn't list it) for when I adjust the chain, 120Nm is what I need... no wonder it was stiff to loosen!: D haha

If you did, following your review, i bought one during the 1st lock down. Cracking bit of kit I love it.
I take it in the van with me with a 5L water canister when I go mountain biking & Motocrossing.
No more scraping & brushing piles of mud off my drive.
Who needs that after a long day riding & your tired & it's getting dark? After what you would pay at the garage jet wash every sunday, it eventually has paid for itself.
I also use it to wash the van when I can't be arsed with the faff of unraveling the hose pipe down the drive 👏.

I loved my Alp 4.0 but traded it in for a Beta 390RR a couple of years ago.... and am contemplating selling that now I have this Aprilia, which has so far excelled in the dirt and done far more than I thought it would be capable of!

Leave all the sloppy muddy mess on someone else's floor. Your not just getting a wash but saving time not sweeping up the slurry after. Less to do when you get home especially in winter when it's getting dark & cold.
That's a bold statement about selling the Beta because of the Turaeg. Shows just how good the Turareg is.

@@porter5877 No idea, I mean, it was designed by Aprilia for Aprilia, and all crash bars I have seen for other motorcycles I believe use some engine mounts as the engine is a stressed member on modern bikes, but I guess if you hit something hard enough, stuff will break. Having dropped mine a handful of times now, I've had no issues or damage. Might be a different story on rocks or on the road, but crashing on harder stuff is generally gonna cause significant damage if you don't have any crash protection, so it is a case of flipping a coin. I no longer put crash protection on my road bikes, but the bikes I take on the trails get it because I am more likely to fall off... and fall off at slower speeds than I would on tarmac.

@@porter5877 Sadly the T7 was too tall for me... I couldn't even get it off it's side stand in the dealership, but the 20mm the Tuareg is lower made all the difference. It is still a tad too tall for me, but I'll order the lower seat for it soon now that is available, which should bring it down to 840mm which will be far more manageable on the trails 🙂
I hope you can get a demo, the Aprilia is an awesome bike... but so is the T7, so you can't go wrong with either if they both fit you! 🙂

Do you have a link for the crash bars or a name for them? All I keep finding is black ones and I really wanted the silver version.

@@Luke_msmith Soz, was working nights last night, so only just got up.
The part number is: 2S001867 and they cost £434 or including VAT £521 which is stupid money, but a lot less than replacing engine parts and a petrol tank I am assuming! 🙂

Hi Ernie, mine did, because I got my dealership to fit them for me before I collected the bike, we have a lot of wet mud where I ride, so didn't fancy the Pirelli STR tires.

@@SuperCheesyMan I absolutely 100% love them.... they took the running in miles to the first service to bed in and feel less sketchy on tarmac, but from day one, they were fantastic in the dirt. They are a compromise though, and at pace on tarmac, they do make the bike a little twitchy, but are fine up to 80mph, and faster on smooth roads.... but they are 75% dirt 25% road, so will not be as well mannered as a 50:50 tire on tarmac.
