thank you for this video, truely. I had a bad day yesterday trying to put my column back together and couldn't get the turn switch housing to seat back flush with the shifter housing. feel really dumb now after watching this video. Again thank you.
Been searching for someone, anyone with information on this planet with this same issue. My 86 E350 lost the turn signals. All lights are good, , flashers also. Just no signals. They worked no problem then one day nothin! What a pain in the butt. Just can't beat FOMOCO engineering. Thanks very helpful.
ALWAYS check all your fuses and flashers first. I had zero flashers, no signals , no emeerg replaced a fuse, then the signals kinda TRIED to work, flashing once every5-6 seconds then i found the flasher, one terminal was so rusted on i couldnt remove it and had to cut both wires and reterminate them to hook up new flasher SO $10 flasher later and 2 $7 packs of fuses to get right fuse and its fixed!
Thank for making this, got 1979 e-150 van I need to replace the switch on and a hell easier after seeing someone else do it. Just got to hunt down the switch, everyone I've talked to so far in town doesn't has it available.
My local autozones don't even carry it anymore, which is nuts since I live in Idaho, where no one gets rid of f150 trucks. Last place I saw with one was Napa and they wanted like $200+. Sadly looks like my specif part is $68.79 on rockauto so I'll keep looking till I find something cheaper. Need to get it running so we have a second rig but it's need a new battery and other electrical issues since whoever had it before us did a number on it's electrical. So need to keep parts as cheap as possible since our budget is tight. Then I need to find the free time to fix it, I work graves and been pulling 48 hours weeks. Sadly probably won't happen till tax return time or later when we don't have snow on the ground. On the plus side gives me plenty of time to hunt down and get parts.
I have a '78 F150 with the manual transmission, same color as yours. I think I have the same job: left turn won't signal or return to 9:00 position; right turn works. I need a new steering wheel anyway, so may as well do the whole thing. BTW, I use the same method of tool organizing that you use. ;)
If you replace your turn signal switch , feed a long wire through and make it long enough so that you can pull one wire through at a time. Without losing your guide wire, then pull it back and get another wire, there should be nine wires. DO NOT REMOVE THE SHIFTER HOUSING.. .
You got very lucky with that one. Mine came with cruise control and everybody was trying to figure out what was wrong with it and it was the blinker switch the whole time I had a hard time trying to find one with cruise control and your video was helpful to me because I believe that’s the correct one on the backside of the steering wheel. You’ll see where those two go into the grooves.
Hi I’ve just finished one just like that and I used weed eater line and it was ice cream. Good luck to all whom have to go through this mess/ stuff Lol
Thanks for the info, and love the truck but one question: after an hour or two of driving, don't your boots get a little soft when you use those steps, with the exhaust right there? Love the look and might steal it for my 74 F350, but may redesign if that's an issue. I am also a user of the OSHA certified Jesus sandals, including all but the deepest winter, including while welding and doing heavy work, so I may need to rethink this lol
I replace my signal switch that in the column and my signals still not working not getting power to my relay ether but when i turn signal on hold my brake the signal cut off my brake light and don't flash just off i run new ground don't know what else to do replace all bubs
My 77 has the turn signal flasher unit glued to the fire wall, 4" from the headlight switch behind the gauge cluster. I would have never found it without taking out the panel and unhooking the left AC vent it was behind. There is no way to reach it other wise.
Still slop in shifter. Linkage seems tight. Once in R,D,1,2 - the indicator/collar can move almost to the next gear down. Park is solid, because of the machined bracket. Is it the wear on the shift lever and indicator housing?
That “extra wire” is connected to the extra “horn thing”... it’s actually meant for a steering wheel which has cruise control buttons on it. I have a 77 f150 with factory cruise. I have not been able to find this turn signal switch with the wire/connector needed for the cruise function. Where did you get this switch at?
The first Holley carburetor had a manual choke. It was a huge pain. So I went electric. And just never removed it. I had thought about making work something. But never did.
how did you figure out witch wire went where with the new signal switch im having trouble with mine as far as witch wire goes where in the oem conector because the wires from the old one dose not match my new one
The previous owner of my 73 f100 did an absolute hack job. I'm trying to handle it but I'm ready to pull my hair out...Thanks for this video!
GREAT video!! Thanks a ton! Cheers

This is why I was never a Ford fan. Most stuff is over thought.

I hate the fact that I have to do this process! Thanks for all the info , nice job!! I may end up using a b&m gate shifter !
Yes. My modified shift linkages. Doesn't allow for headers. But I love being able to tune the shifts.
I loved my 77 because it was made out of steel. Mine had the same color dash as yours.

MiahTwilight Got my off eBay. Best box auto parts wanted way to much for the same quality part. Glad it helped.
Rockauto.com .50 bucks about 125 at advance or autozone .

go to www.pullapart.com ,,, Free interchange manual , lots of parts from the 1989 ford E series vans fit the mid to late 70's ford f series ..
Awesome video thank you so much man
No problem.

I believe that blue/black wire and that extra thing is for the cruise control
Well strangely enough. I found a cruise control horn pad.

@@joshuawhitecloud3795 I Ebay prices are crazy! Now I just need to figure out. How to use the cruise buttons to shift my electric transmission. Lol
"Set that..somewhere to be lost"...rofl
Cool truck.
Thanks
Note: It saves some walking if you grab 2 or 3 different sized wrenches...
Hi I’ve just finished one just like that and I used weed eater line and it was ice cream. Good luck to all whom have to go through this mess/ stuff Lol
People hated these so bad. That in the early 90's. I could charge 200 bucks each time I changed one.

If the fuse is good. And has power going through the fuse. The problem is between the fuse and switch.
@@ReverseGear i figured it out the fuse was no good thank you tho

Geez. That's a fun one.
What is the female part of that turn switch connector called. (at 10:29)

Ebay, Like 2 years ago . I think. But it has been a while.
Sorry 4 years ago. I did this in 2017. I can't find the record of this purchase. It was too long ago.
odd question but what is that pull on the lower dash left side?
The first Holley carburetor had a manual choke. It was a huge pain. So I went electric. And just never removed it. I had thought about making work something. But never did.
@@ReverseGear thank you I have one on my truck I thought it was an old choke but wasn’t sure!
what did your 4 speed trans come out of?? did yo have to get or make adapters for the bellhousing?? thanks
A 90-91 Ford F350 with a 460. Bell housing is the same bolt pattern. I had to make a transmission cross member. And shifter linkage.
how did you figure out witch wire went where with the new signal switch im having trouble with mine as far as witch wire goes where in the oem conector because the wires from the old one dose not match my new one
my horn goes off when i pull the hazards
Oh geez. Mine matched. Hopefully you have the old one. All you can do is back trace from the old one.
@@ReverseGear thx I threw my old unit away in hopes my aftermarket would match up exactly 😅
@@ReverseGear I took pictures of my old one to see where my wires went in my connector
Mine had an extra horn wire. I left it out of the connector. To avoid confusion.
It's called a roll pin
Is it for tilt steering????
Not on this model. Turn signal lever.
@@ReverseGear It's because I'm looking for this part but Is it for automatic transmission and tilt steering 1979 f-100 on ebay but I can't find it
