Well, after a while it just get's monotonous. Life has to be about more than an hour of watching a man jump bones. But I guess for men, he is their dream-man, doing the things they dream of doing. Watched the show a few times, got bored really quickly.
I know I'm kinda late with this response, but this show is entirely not about fucking everything that moves. The main plot shows it very well and in the end - the show is a big satire on Hollywood lifestyle. Hank is constantly deviated from his real goal and wish to be with Karen by all these 'accidents', his naivity and little thinking before doing something. His fornication is the comedy part of the show(along with jokes about big movie producers, hollywood actors, writers, authorities and general public), while his true love for Karen(with problems he creates and faces along the way plus thoughts about life, responsibility, marriage and love) - is the drama part of the show. The show is definitely not for everyone and definitely not for those who can say they are even a little prude. But if you are open-minded about sex and relationship - it's amazing. Especially if you ever been in the situation when you love someone like crazy, but the situation, common sense and your surroundings tell you to go look for someone else...that way you almost certainly will end up fornicating trying to fill the inner emptiness with meaningless hookups. Unfortunately, not all stories of that kind end up as beautiful as Californication did, but that's the thing. This show is about great sadness, loneliness and deep sorrow connected with the fact that quite often we don't understand ourselves and our feeling, thus hurting others. The show is very representative of that. Hank - is a great character. Why? Because he is alive. He has a lot of sins(just like all of us do), he isn't plain good guy or just a bad guy. He is very close to a real person in terms of his actions and lack of just ONE tendency, he is a no paper hero or paper villain, he has a good heart, but he causes pain, and yet we can't judge him as being a really bad man. Morale in the show is grey, just like it is in real life. I'm sure it's hard to understand that praise for the character based on the fact that you never really watched the full show, but believe me, the reason I(and millions of people all over the world) love this series so much is not because there's partial nudity in it and main character is a charming dude who fucks anything that moves. There are much deeper reasons for that. It made me cry, laugh, cringe, and helped me analize my actions better, care more about those I love and value friendship even more. It's a show that may seem all kinky, dirty and filthy, but it is actually one of the most soothing and kind shows I've ever seen. Hell, very little amount of movies made me feel that compassionate towards the characters. I put it at the same 'shelf' with "Rain Man", "Pay it Forward", "Scent of a Woman" and "Dead Poet Society". It's just that good...I've talked too much already, so I'll just finish right there.
