Espinas Frontier/Sunbreak Moveset Comparison

  • In this video I compare and list every attack/movement Espinas has in both games to see what's different or remained the same. The result? Not much changes to make it work perfectly. Capcom did an amazing job recreating Espinas' animations to Sunbreak. Details and all. Though design wise, the green color hues didn't really need to be touched. Let me know if I missed anything

    Slight error: The upward horn thrust does launch you into the air only when you're hit directly by the head

    An detail that I love that I noticed already in his sleeping animation is that in "old gen" it looks like he moves only the skeleton of his neck/tail and nothing else while in Sunbreak they actually took the time to animate his whole body reacting to the movement so he feels way more real.
    When in old gen you had only the movement on the neck, in SB you can see his shoulders and wings moving a little as well. I really love touches like this.

    Ironically, the Frontier lore states that one of the best things that can happen to a village is to have an Espinas nest nearby. While they are extremely dangerous when angered thanks to their triple threat of being poisoned, paralyzed AND set on fire, Espinas are quite docile normally, simply because they are so confident of their built-in defenses that they don't fear anything outside of an elder dragon. They spend most of their time sleeping, as they don't like to waste energy on driving away things that can't hurt them (or hunt things it can't eat).
    The only things outside of elder dragons that could challenge an Espinas would probably be Lunagaron, as it's an ice creature that can live in the warm climates Espinas loves.

    Another fun detail in Sunbreak is that following one around without being seen reveals the secret of its venom - it eats Poisontoads, and probably Paratoads too. It will lay down in a surprisingly adorable way, and one of the toads will appear. It will wait for several seconds, then chomp it down in one bite.
    It makes me wonder what Flaming Espinas eats to get its Defense Down fireballs...

    • @Cheeyze
      @Cheeyze Před 10 měsíci +1

      I know this comment is from several months ago, but I'd imagine Flaming Espinas eats something like Altaroth to get defense down on its fireballs. Also, fun fact: Soulseer Mizutsune (and possibly Violet as well, not sure though) gets its explosive, fiery bubbles from eating Bomb Arowana

    I enjoy the little rundown here, the cluster fire attack is from white/winter espinas if you were curious (certain you already knew that). I’ve always kinda loved him despite never hunting him until now. My biggest gripe is that he isn’t always sleeping and is a bit slow

      From what I understand about Espinas, he is Capcom's IP because he is the flagship monster for Frontier, but the game has since been in Tencent's hands, and all the crazy new monster/designs are theirs, so a lot of the really over-the-top monsters aren't really Capcom's to add to Rise. Maybe some of the base game monsters will be, though. IDK which of the monsters are both unique to Frontier and owned by Capcom.
