This makes so much sense now I kept wondering why all these bees and wasp kept bothering me and everyone else in the pool 🤦🏻♀️👍🏼 you would think the water splashing would keep them away but now I know why., I’ll be investigating my pool in the morning. 🙏🏽 I appreciate this video very much.
We bought gray foam pipe insulator at the hardware store. Cut in pieces. We did this to help keep water in the pool. Works great. Should keep bees out too.
Thank you for the info, I have also noticed a big problem with algae growing inside the same area and if the water gets higher inside then the algae overflows into the pool.
God Bless You for taking the time to post this. I have a friend who has one of these pools and 3 small children two of whom are so violently allergic to bee stings they carry an 'epi' pen just in case they are stung. When they checked the exact place you showed in your video they found not one but 3 nests, small but I don't think the size counts. On contacting our local wildlife foundation I learned it is a very seductive place for bee's, warm and damp. I've sent a letter to Intex customer service as well as their legal department with this information as well as put a notice in our professional journal to inform physicians to make their patient aware of this issue as it is a common pool. I am a geriatric physician however, many of my patients have grand and even great-grandchildren who could be affected. Again, many thanks for bringing this serious issue to everyone's attention. You may not ever know the number of lives you have saved or the pain you have helped a great many people to avoid. You may want to bring it to your own physician's attention as well as to contact Intex as well. A letter to their legal department is always a good idea as it gets to the heart of the matter for any business.......the potential liability if they do NOT include this information in their pool instructions and let people know to check this on a regular basis. So little effort could save so much grief. God Bless, Margie Mac, M.D.
Not just an issue with intext type pools but all above ground pools. My parents have had hardside above ground pools while I was growing up. You should find nest tucked up in the overhangs. I have an 18 foot bestway I will be putting up in a few days and will keep an eye out for this.
Thanks so much! I have had 3 trips to the ER from red wasp stings. We just put the pool up, my wife brought up her concern about wasps. I said , being vinyl no way🤔 I guess I have to say.... Honey you are right! Dap makes a water clean up, white , low expanding foam. Done😎
Yep. Had one of the blue pools before (got over eight years out if it set up year-round, by the way.) The wasps not only nest where you showed, but also inside the mid-level strap around the pool (the gray pool has loops that eliminate the spaces, though.) A foam filler product is a good idea.
Good catch and great to share. There was also a spider in your video. In my area we get black widow spiders. I recommend using a hose to blast out those tunnels on a regular basis.
Dag Nabbit I live on southern MD, in a rural area and we have a LOT here. So glad I watched this and everyone's suggestions. I will be making sure they are sealed when I finish putting together my pool today.
Everytime I top off the pool after splash out and evaporation I put the spray nozzle on and spray out these areas. These pockets hold algae and mold. I will then shock the pool after to keep any algae that may have gotten in the pool at bay.
@@davidmathews2599 Unless of course the chemicals will deteriorate the vinyl and ruin your pool. Its easier to check your pockets, spray the bugs and remove the next.
Cut pool noodles into lengths of the tunnels since they are cost efficient also you can spray foam the holes of noodles for extra precautions for other insects like spiders. That's what I did.
We have wasps that are a yearly battle between the ground wasps and paper wasps. We have a house that is 2 a-frames put together, so high peaks and plenty of overhanging roof. Noticed the same thing. Few weeks later noticed barn spiders in most of the pockets. Then got those green beetles that need a new name. It came in waves.
I had hornet nests in my hard sided aluminum pool many years ago, they went inside the columns and under the top rail. Nest on almost every post. I get wasp nests also under my wood deck. You can't get away from these pests. We just set an above ground pool yesterday, and now I know we have to stuff those openings with something.
Yellow jackets, not bees. There is no comparision. Those hornets sting like ten times harder than bees. Thanks for the information. Black widows could also be a problem.
We didn’t have an intex pool but one that was purchased through our local pool store and there are large gaps in between the columns. We had a few hornets/wasp.. nest that we never noticed so check those gaps pool owners!
I was suspecting clickbait but this is a good point - maybe stuff openings with used plastic bags? At least if u go to remove the pool later you can reverse the "filler"
The nests are essentially made of mud. A good high powered hose sprayer can clean those out for good and if you aim it right you can shoot it from a distance. I managed to clean out a wasp nest that was in the door of my van this way. Stand back and make sure kids, pets and bystanders are not close by. Have an exit strategy in place just in case. But for the most part water is your best weapon against bees and wasps.
Thanks so much! Great tip. Have you successfully figured out a solution? I’ve seen in comments, spray foam, plastic bags, dryer sheets, and pipe foam... do any of those work? we just put up our pool and I would rather prevent than have to deal with later. Ideas? Thanks again.
Thanks,i also buy large cans of bee/wasp killer, and keep one at pool to shoot at them flying up to pool, they do get the "hint" that some other yard is more"bee friendly "...always keep a can at pool.lol
There is also African bees that have finally reached FL. A lady in Florida has already been hospitalized keep an eye out for those, keep away from your kids and dogs

Not allergic to bees and would much rather see that in there then that spider! I dropped my phone when I realized it was in there...I’m deathly afraid of spiders...definitely gonna be keeping an eye out for that
Valerie Kinder, I mistakenly used the generic term "bees." These were actually wasps and the sting repeatedly. They even wait overhead if you go under water. Luckily it was just a tiny nest! The spider I don't mind, haha
I thought there were poisonous water snake hidden in the frame sleeve...! get rid of the wasp nest and fill the sleeve with rags, so no more creatures hiding there
I have an inflatable pool and have this problem...I don't understand why or where they're coming from but I feel like I don't even want to go in the pool anymore ☹️ they're nasty and go after you for no reason! They fly right in your face and will chase you! No one's bothering them. They're just being assholes. Wtf did I do to them for them to act like that?!
Yeah, I feel the same way and have said the exact things you said. They are assholes, I've had them fly right into me and sting me on contact. They chase me too.
I ended up sticking dryer sheets in each end of mine. Solved the problem.
Eww, toxic crap. You can simply hose out the wasp nests, and avoid the toxins in dryer sheets.
oooo i bet that smells nice too when the sun heats it up. good idea.
Mine would get Black widow spiders and eggs in it. Gonna do the dryer sheet thing.
Thanks for the heads up. Never thought of that at all. Will check ours regularly now. Thanks so much!

@@UGotHookah why can u not use the pool cause of cicadas? I hate them I live in the forest and they are horrible!!! We are about to set up our pool.

How is pool working for you did you have any problems? And what size

Pools are junk
Ay! Ne er mind the bees - what about that huge fricken spider!!!
Jack Rabbit 😱
Wouldnt have thought of that.. Thanks for sharing!
Watching this at night and now my wife is bugging me to go check! Thanks for the heads up!
there goes my hiding spot for my stash!
Lmao
Thank you for this hidden danger hope your family is good well god bless and take care and hello from texas.
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to be on the lookout!
perfect hiding spot for black widows. I saw a small spider in there also. not a black widow but if there common in your area be careful as well.
R Sanchez, no black widows here. I believe that the brown recluse is the only nasty spider that we have around here. Thanks!
I never would have thought about a wasp nest. I wonder how well the liner will stand up to spray since the spray is petroleum based?
Thank you for the heads up.

Thanks! We’ll always check!

Fill it with spray phoam.
Let dry and trim up excess.
Or fill with phoam padding.
Jst some ideas.
Bill Peirce...Sounds like a good idea Bill!

Thanks if I ever put one of these pools together I’ll spray some “Big Stuff” Foam to fill in all around the pool.👍
Thanks now I'll check my pool ever day
I've found black widows in the same area on my pool. I think it could be because some of these pools are used outside
Good catch, reminds me to spray in there & check it often, thanks.
I got stung trying to clean out pool and it was at a pocket so thank you for your help because I'm not getting stung again
adding spray foam should do the trick. I found some installation spray foam at home depot and now I have a safe peace of mind:)
Omg thanks...gonna have nightmares tonight now! 😬
I don’t live in an area were many insects like wasps and bees live but I will still be sure to look out for this thanks 👍
great video. never thought.
Happens on every above ground pool. Not just the intex pools.
Thanks a lot. I was about to set mine up. I didn't think of that. I guess I would be inserting plastic bags in it.
Good call out thanks for this!
I'm actually more concern with the spider web. If there's a web there's a spider. As a severe arachnophob this is not ok.

Think you could use the expansion foam to fill in all of the voids... hate those things!
Thanks for pointing that out am planning to put wood there

I came up with a fool proof solution!!! I moved (And unfortunately left the pool behind)
Wow great advice! 👍
Do the top of your poles bend out a little where they connect to the T? Mine do the same and I was wondering if it's normal.
Alex McGowan , I haven’t noticed that
Thanks bro
I put dryer sheets in each end. No more wasps.
Thanks bro I was thinking of getting this same pool
Thank you
I might have to skip the pool idea
All you have to do is shove plastic shopping bags in those spaces all the way around.
What do you have that has the water squirting on the pool, I'd like to have that.
