    Hi, my name is Elie Moses and I am a 24 Year-Old Law and Film student here in Sydney, Australia. I have decided to watch what is considered on of the greatest and highest rated TV SHOW's of all time 'BAND OF BROTHERS' for the FIRST TIME!! This show is created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks! Here is my reaction to episode 1 of season 1. UNBELIEVABLE!

      @@eliemoses You need to watch The Pacific. It, among other things, touches on how the war affected Australia. I'd also recommend a trilogy on the Pacific Theater by a guy named Ian W. Tool. Toll also wrote a book about the founding of the US Navy called Six Frigates. One of the guys in The Pacific is named Robert Leckie. He wrote a book called George Washington's War about the American Revolution that was very well done, that guy wrote a lot of books after WW2 ended.

      @@eliemoses Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg made a ton of money off of these when they absolutely despise our Bill of Rights. Great job at this and SPR, definitely, but they don't truly appreciate what that generation did because they hate the limits on our government by the Bill of Rights and vote for the political party that ignores the Bill of Rights.

    Every member of East Company would say later that Herbert Sobel was a genius at unit training and a complete loss as a commanding officer once training was over. They gave him credit for turning them into one of the best, most effective combat units in the Army, but also said that had he not been replaced, he would have got a lot of them killed.

    Band of Brothers was my introduction to reaction channels a few months ago. It is one of the few shows I care enough about to watch anyone's reaction. I've watched many different channels reacting to this one show. I see many of the same people commenting on the different channels. Many people care about this show the way I do.

    Enjoy the ride with Easy Company. This is by far one of the most realistic and accurate depictions of the Airborne's experience. It is fantastic. I look forward to watching the journey with you.

    Every episode provides deep emotional insights and is packed with historical information- each episode is a unique perspective and has masterful filmmaking and acting. When you are finished, there are 2 more rewarding videos: the documentary on the actual men portrayed and a historical look at the 506th- “We Stand Alone Together” and a “diary” shot by Ron Livingston (Lewis Nixon) about the 2 week training sessions for the cast before filming began.

    Once you finish this, there is another 10 part series called The Pacific. It is a bit harsher and has scenes that are sometimes even more painful to watch, but gives a good look at experiences in the battles with Japan.

    Interesting fact about Winters that gives a big idea as to why he was such a good leader...he enlisted in August of 1941 and completed training as an enlisted man, then he remained at the camp where he trained to help train other men after him. He was selected for Officer Candidate School in April 1942, and after he finished that training and became an officer in July 1942 he volunteered for the Airborne...so when we see him as a Platoon Leader in Easy, that is his third set of training that Winters is undergoing.
    Fun fact...just about every Regiment in the US Army had an "Easy" company, because "easy" was just the military phonetic for the letter E and the standard structure of a US Army Regiment in WW2 was 9 companies that were lettered from A or Able thru I or India. So all of those regiments had an B or Baker Company, they all had D or Dog Company, and they all had an E or Easy Company...and so forth.
    All the paratroopers were volunteers, not draftees...at least earlier on in the war. Later on after D-Day the US Military began to blur the distinction between recruits who were draftees and those who volunteered, but before then the Paratroopers being an all volunteer force with very high standards was incredibly important to the pride of the Paratroopers.

    Listening to your intro, this show came to fruition initially as a sort of continuance of the Saving Private Ryan project with Spielberg, Hanks, and team. The success of SPR made them want a similar project with a bigger scope, and a non-fiction story.
    This is the first of 3 sister miniseries, with The Pacific (2010) and Masters of the Air (2023).

    Sobel actually jumped in Normandy on D-Day, just not with Easy. And he wasn't COMPLETELY useless, he assembled some men and took out a German machinegun position.
    Eisenhower had a prepared speech/letter in the event that D-Day would have been a failure:
    "Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone."
    Thankfully, it was not needed..

    after BOB you HAVE TO react to the partner series, THE PACIFIC, made and written by the same people, it focuses on marines fighting the japanese and pushing them back from australia on a savage island hopping campaign. pure work of art as well

    I’d recommend watching the 10 eps, then the documentary We Stand Alone Together, as well as the hour long featurette that was shot behind the scenes of the BoB boot camp. It’s truly fantastic stuff.

    19:40 This is one of the first US units trained in parachute/airborne tactics. The Germans used Airborne attacks in 1940(Holland) and 1941(Crete) before we did in actual combat situations.

    Yeah it was Fassbender. So many faces you will recognise as you go through this. It really is a must watch both for the story and to see so many great talents early in their career. For example someone people dont necessarily recognise is that Sgt John Martin is played by dexter Fletcher who went on to produce Bohemian Rhapsody and direct Rocketman.
    Sobel is complex - he really clearly did feel he was doing the right thing but he lacked the empathy to understand when to pull back. As for the field he as clearly ill-suited too. Most of the men admitted later that his training did help them prepare for what they had to face but that had he led them into combat it would have been a disaster.
    One thing omitted that informs John Martin & Bill Guarnere's interaction about Bill's brother was that the two men went on leave together and got incredibly drunk in Scotland and got matching tattoos of paratroopers falling from the sky with open parachutes. These two guys were very close.
    Slight Spoiler - Moment of Irony - Lipton advises people to see Sgt Evans to sign their life insurance policies - Evans (Simon Pegg) is the first recognisable person to be shown being killed in the show.
    I love the subtle thing near the end of the episode where Winters helps each man to his feet as they are all encumbered by a lot of heavy gear with what feels like a handshake and looks ech man in the eyes sharing a moment of respect and support. It's so simply done but says so much about him and the men and how they have bonded.
    Hoping you do watch all of these episodes - if you do you need to steel yourself for 6,7 & 9 which are some of the toughest but most rewarding episodes of television ever broadcast. This show is clearly in your wheelhouse and frankly it's somethign everyone should watch just to get a true feel for such an important part of history

    Band of Brothers is the best series ever made. Hopefully, after this you'll check out "The Pacific" and "Masters of the Air". Both of those are also well worth the watch, but nothing tops Band of Brothers, in my opinion.

    Its already been said, but after this mini series, you should look at Generation Kill. Its written by one of The Wire writerrs and Saving Private Ryan writer. Its also a short (7 episode) mini series from HBO

    This show is mostly based on the recollections and books that some of the veterans wrote after the war, so while it is generally quite accurate, there are some slight errors every now and then, or artistic license. There is one big inaccuracy at the end of Ep3 but we'll get there.
    David Schwimmer was the biggest name on the cast when the show as filmed, as it happened during the height of Friends' popularity, but a lot of new or lesser known actors would emerge from this series. Michael Fassbender (his first role ever), Simon Pegg, Michael Cudlitz among others, and more to come later on.
    The men all hated Sobel because he was unnecessarily harsh with them, always finding excuses to punish them, but they all credited their survival to him and his rigorous physical training, even if he was a very poor leader in the field.
    The main cast went through a week-long boot camp prior to filming, to really get them into the roles they were portraying, and that went a long way to give this show a lot of its authentic feel.
    Some of the cast appear older, but in reality, most of these guys were extremely young, 18 & 19yo boys going to war, some of them never even having seen a plane until now, and now they had to jump off of one. Even the officers, men like Winters (26), Nixon (25), Meehan & Compton (both 22) were not that old at all on D-Day.
    Ranney and Harris were the two punished by Col Sink because he rightfully figured out they were the ones behind the mutiny, being at the time the seniors among the Sergeants. Ranney was actually transferred to Item Company but managed to rejoin Easy about a week before D-Day. Harris, meanwhile (never shown again in the show, so not a spoiler), became a Pathfinder and was killed in the battle of Carentan.

      Episode 8 also has some serious artistic license.
      After Schwimmer, Ron Livingston was probably the next best known due to Office Space. Fassbender was just starting and Tom Hardy was cast out of film school. Damien Lewis was known a bit in Britain. Scott Grimes was mainly known as a child actor. No one thought of Wahlberg as a serious actor yet.
      A number of the men lied about their age an were as young as 15-16 when they enlisted.

    Interesting comment about the men looking into the camera as if in a documentary. In real life, film crews did come to film some of the airborne crews before departure. Eisenhower was there also, and he had trouble looking the paratroopers in the eye because they were predicting 70% casualties for the airborne umits.

    Dick Winters had two catch phrases. They were "Follow me" and "Hang tough."
    There is one bit part that people never get. In line to get Spaghetti next to Guarnere is Dominic Cooper who would go on to play a young Howard Stark in the MCU and Jesse Custer in The Preacher.

    I shall try again to add a comment to say that, particularly as you're an Aussie, it would be interesting for you to see the docu-drama that was done of the Battle of Long Tan. The men there might not have gotten the respect they deserved at the time because of the general bad feeling about Vietnam but they *absolutely* did deserve respect for their supreme courage.

    Paratroopers was still very much a new concept in the military. The First nation to test and implement the concept of paratroopers was the Soviet Union in the early 30s, and Germany had used paratroopers during the invasion of the Netherlands in 1940 and the island of Crete in 1941.

      Mac Arthur was Supreme Allied Commander of the Pacific. Ike’s control was limited to the ETO ( European Theater of Operations.)

    I never watched Saving Private Ryan the same again after this series. One is a dozen stories and memories closely stitched together for a compelling story, while the other is a dozen unrelated stories loosely stitched together to make a story.

    "...brand new concept...": Col. Sink was overstating a bit. While WWII was the first large-scale use of airbourne units in combat, both the Germans and Russians had paratroopers and used them by this point. Not sure when the Brits first had them, but they used them, too.

    Great show--Highly encourage you to finish the series. While not critical, (and if you're not familiar already) I recommend 5 minutes of research into basics of military unit structure and the enlisted and officer ranks. Platoon, Company, Battalion and Pvt, Sgt, Lt, Captain ect. I think a little bit of understanding goes a long way in a show like this.

    This is definitely a must watch, even if you wont upload it. And yes, If you loved Saving Private Ryan and Schindlers List, then your gonna love this show. Its like the sopranos in the sense that it doesnt feel like it watching a show, It feels like your actually watching these men train and go to war.     If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. . This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup" and Captain Sobel....When Winters literally takes the pen from Sobel while asking for it, foreshadowing. Power move while Sobel was abusing his. Hard to call this a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠

    1944 - June 6 D-Day United States leads the Allied invasion of Europe on the beaches of Normandy, France

    I followed you enthusiastically on Fargo. Very disappointed you stopped. Now I’ll wait to see if you finish this series before I watch any episodes. I think you hurt your Fargo numbers by not committing to finish it from the start.
    BoB is a fantastic series, though.

    Thinking ahead... If you love the Wire and BoB (you will), consider watching "Generation Kill" right after this. Its another Ed Burns and David Simon creation, and its basically if the Wire and Bob had a baby. Its modern and conflicted and nuanced to reflect the war in Iraq. Great content dude keep it up!

    It's impossible to watch this series and not be changed by it. It was made by Spielberg and Hanks after they researched Saving Private Ryan. You're going to love this, and you're going to be heartbroken by this. Get ready!

    These were the first US Airborne soldiers. They had been used by the British and Germans before hand. Just not to the amount that were done at the end of this episode.

    In my opinion, a reaction video should focus on the subject, not the reactor. One quarter of the screen shows the important content - the show you are reacting to. And it is covered with your banner. The rest of the screen is you. Nope. I will not be back.

      They make the reactioin small for copyright reasons to avoid being blocked - it can be a major problem for reactors and a difficult balancing act. Honestly you will struggle to find too many with larger captures of the actual thing being reacted too because it's just hard to get those through without issue.
