Ignore them. Don't give them the satisfaction of seeing that they have gotten under your skin. You and Rudnick are a wonderful team, enjoying each other, and that's all that really matters, not if your hands are perfect! You get experience through experiencing, so keep at it but mostly - enjoy the process!

I am one of the people who watch because they enjoy horses and seeing the care that people like you give horses, and how that relationship grows. I grew up on my grandfather's farm which went from 6 work horses to two (and a small tractor) to no horses. Some of my fondest memories are riding bareback, brushing them down, and leading them to a stall. Professional critics were not necessary, not desired, not missed. Do your thing as long as you enjoy it, and don't let outsiders spoil it.

you are so right. people online really act like everyone is out here trying to be grand prix! some of us just love horses and being around them, it doesn't matter if we'd be good enough to win a ribbon.
i hate to use words like this, but i do feel like it is classist to think people don't deserve to ride if they (or honestly, usually their parents) didn't shell out thousands of dollars to teach them the "preferred" form.

I guess it was "unprofessional" that Rudnik's movement was so beautiful & your hands so gentle I forgot to "criticize." Please don't mistake "trolling" for "criticism." And also, don't confuse "horseman" with "professional." Those that trolled you either failed to see the gifts of movement and soft hands that can't be taught. Or, they saw them & were envious, partly because their stable of 500k German imports & their years training yielded neither.

I get told im a first class screw up but yet if i sell my horse they want to buy him..... make that make sense. They tell me my training is to light but enjoy the product of it?! They just dont like the fact we have a great bond, if im bareback and i slide out of postion my horse will slow down for me to get back in correct seat. We keep pushing forward and let the haters hate! Ive learned one thing through all this, people hate when you are doing something they cant or wont. I do not get nice honest critisiom which i can handle as i refused to be closed minded and think i know everything as there is always something to learn. Each horse is as different as each person! May God bless you all, horse and family and may your beautiful bond keep getting stronger and stronger. Learn each other together and youll be an unbreakable bond that can do anything together from that bond! Your a true cowgirl! Most want the ride and not the bond...

😂I love your comment! “I discovered the hard way that I couldn’t fly.” Me too! When I launched all I could think of was , “ Not the knee, Don’t wreck your knee!” I protected my knee but landed on my butt and hurt my back. I immediately thought, “Oh yeah my back……”. (I’m fine now). My horse was spooked by a moose (!) that I hadn’t seen. She didn’t hurt me on purpose. Horses are prey animals and very aware of threats.

Don’t let a failed attempt at a flying dismount discourage you. I can’t count the times I’ve had the same thing happen. (I was usually one of the taller people in the class, so I was mounted on the taller - and lass frequently ridden class horses.). I never let go of the reins. Perhaps the feeling in the horse’s mouth when he came to an abrupt stop made him/her more careful the next time they wanted to unseat a rider! 😅 anyone who has ridden regularly has (almost certainly) been dumped a few times. 😊

    • @deb_ellen9733

Well, as part of the lesson to teach us to become “one with the horse”, we tied up the stirrups and the reins, closed our eyes and did the circle around the ring at a slow canter. At some point, Bandit decided it was time to execute an abrupt left hand turn with no prior notification. Horse and saddle went one way, I went the other, and landed face down like I was trying to make a snow angel. Bandit came over, nudged me gently and distinctly said “oh, I’m soooo sorry - did I do that???” Luckily for Bandit, I didn’t land in a pile of fresh horse poop. I got up, got back on, but never went back to finish my lessons. I absolutely love horses, they are amazing magnificent creatures, but now my only interactions are jaw, ear and butt scratches, treat giving and enjoying the feel of soft horse lips nuzzling the palm of my hand. I have close friends who own an equestrian center and they let me wander the barns at will.

After all, these people are not friends or family, so why would you care about their opinion. Every horse + rider couple is different. I'm riding since I was a kid and still make basic mistakes sometimes! We all do.

Your balance and posture are great, especially compared to where they were a few years ago. I am going through a similar journey with my mare Lily. I had the advantage that a racehorse guy with about 50 years' experience was able to give me some riding lessons. This was a big help to my confidence and riding ability because Lily was a very hot, forward and spooky horse (she is 1/4 thoroughbred and you know how hot they tend to be...)
He taught me how to ride this type of horse, racehorse style. I don't post many videos of Lily and I. If I posted videos, I'd probably get a lot of flak as well, but after a year of being ridden like this, she is so much better, less spooky and I am also a lot more confident. He taught me how to keep my seat, no matter what, and because of this, I know that when I go for a ride, I'm going to be okay!
Incidentally, she still has a soft mouth, but in his words "You can't f*ck around with these horses, you have to be in control!" If she starts to act up, the reins go short, the pressure goes on hard and it doesn't come off until she decides to behave herself again! One-rein stops are a definite thing and have saved me more than once, as has desensitization, bombproofing and lots and lots of groundwork!
Despite all this, I could just hear the screeching horse Karens telling me how cruel I am, putting so much pressure on the reins when she decides to have a "Moment". Yeah. It' not you up there, dearie, on a horse that already almost killed me once (13 breaks or fractures, punctured lung, dislocated hip).
We are different now. We are better now. The "Moments" are less common, less severe, and I can get her back into focus more easily. I ride most days and in total, riding and groundwork takes about 2 or 3 hours. I love her and she loves me, but it has been quite a journey.
God Bless and Keep the Videos Coming!

I got my first (and probably my only) horse when I was over 50 years of age. I have had him for 20 years now and I agree with the person below who had a trainer that told them to "just ride" Especially if you''re taking good advice here and there from people you trust. I grew up with a small cattle ranch in our family, and learned to ride when I was young, so I didn't go looking for much advice when I was older. Basic riding is really a no-brainer. If you want to get really good at it, you can grow from that point, but otherwise - just ride.
Before moving out here to the desert, with my horse, I was at several large stables in Los Angeles. I learned that the "experts" were all over the place. Just about anyone with any success with horses was suddenly a "trainer".
I watch a whole bunch of CZcams equestrian channels, none of them for "learning experiences". I just enjoy watching people and their relationships with their horses. This is especially true now, out here in the boring, hot desert. I like watching horse owners in places with nice trails and fun rides. One such channel is from Yorkshire, in England. It has been truly fascinating watching this 60-plus year-old woman teaching her Andalusian mare to be a wonderful mount. The other day, they went to beach, not far from her home, and they were having a blast galloping through the surf. 105 degrees out here - the surf looked like heaven to me!
Figure out how to ignore the critics or simply block them. I am sure you have plenty of other subscribers who can and will give you gentle, helpful advice. Get to know the ones that actually care and are helpful, and listen to only them. And ride your horse.

As long as you have progress, and that you feel that you are better than what you were yesterday is all what matters. Keep it up and keep learning. Even professional instructors were new at riding horses in their journey.

I’m old, to late to start riding again, not that I can’t, just have many other interes. I find your videos interesting, your relationship with your horse, your horses intelligence, I’m in awe. But remember I don’t comment on your videos as I’ve said in many of your videos.

Ignore the idiots, it don't matter how you ride you are not going for competition, if you were going for competition it's more strict with posture, feet and hand placements. I love watching you ride, don't ride, rudnik I love watching these it brings me back to my riding days. Much love x edit; The horse world is ugly and too much judgement and oh I'm better than you crap. If you are falling out of your seat try going down a hole or 2 to lengthen your legs and sit into the seat more, it will feel wierd to start with and feel uncomfortable but go with it and also it will make you tired more as your not used to it hope thjs helps x

I'm so like you with my riding and my horse, probably longer time out of the saddle, im sorry you had negative people, its easy to write from the security of your keyboard! I love your confidence. I was never taught to ride "properly" we just saddled up and got on, to be honest I loved it no criticism we all rode and loved it.

Honestly, in the time before the internet this would never have been an issue...Unless you were actually physically there, you wouldn't see anyone riding! People are now constantly being critics.
We all love to see other people's yards, horses, how they ride, etc.
I wish people would remember their first time on a horse..
I wish they could look at the bigger picture. Rudnik is loved, cared for, & you have not sent him away to a professional trainer for starting, but done it all yourself! Is Rudnik happy? "Yes!". Are you enjoying him? "Yes!"😊
Are we loving watching you? "Hell, Yeah!"😂

You do not have to justify your self or your level of expertise to anyone but yourself. I had no formal training back in the day for the same reason as yours but my love for horses and asking a lot of questions of those who new I got through it you know yourself what you need to improve on and just do that. Goodluck

I can’t understand why some people constantly try to find fault with how you treat Rudnik it is so obvious how much you love him, and, especially, how much he loves you! You changed his life for the better! I know very little about horses but I can recognize the love between the two of you……….anyone who tries to find fault with what you have done and are doing are the type who will find fault in anything!! Just ignore the negative comments and know that what you are doing is the greatest!

Don't you worry about it, Sweetheart!
I didn't learn to RIDE until I was 35 years old.
Almost anyone can "ride" a horse. But, to learn how to RIDE a horse, especially a cow bronc, is a subtle practice.
Getting bucked off was not acceptable to my brother, who was teaching me.
    You are doing great!
Take your time, and feel the animal. That horse will help you.

Amen. It’s absurd how critical armchair warriors are!! I’m just like you- I have never taken a single riding lesson, but I’ve riden since I was a young girl. I know what proper form is in the saddle, but I’m sure I’m not in any way perfect…especially since my preferred way to ride is bareback!😊 But you know what? I will adore the horse I’m on and love every second of it! I’ve watched so many horse people over the years who don’t even seem to have fun, OR even enjoy their horse, expecting the horse to be a machine or something in the name of ‘correctness’! I hate that you get these jerks picking you apart! Just categorize them as algorithm boosters in your mind because that’s exactly what their stupid comments do- boost the algorithm for you! 🤣 So joke’s on them! Definitely well meaning constructive criticism is a good thing, but the others…thanks for the boost!😝🙏

You will never please everybody online. While you're out there working with Rudnik they are at home typing furiously on the keyboard like they think they know something. Trolls will always troll just find yourself a bridge in your head you can let them live under. Enjoy your time and your improvement because in the end it is only you and Rudnik that matter, everything else is just background noise. You do you, those who appreciate you for being you and Rudnik for being Rudnik will stand out amongst the trolls as the ones you want to engage with!

I don't know of course but I would bet those “oh so perfect” people have never once had a horse love and trust them like Rudnik loves you. Those kind of perfection oriented riders have demanded perfection from their horses and use fear as a tool, not love. The only reason I keep watching you is for the relationship between you and your big assed babies, love them all. 😂😂 I'm surprised a bit that you would let these people get to you, you are such a strong take charge woman, who gives a #=*& what people whose only purpose on earth is to upset and hurt others. Send them to me next time and let me reply for you. 😁👍🏼

I rode western @ age 12. Only shown how to saddle and bridle. Was born to ride I guess was very capable even competing.
I haven't ridden in decades, now 67, however my future would of been better had I stayed with horses and away from boys' 😂😂😂
Would ❤ to have a horse again! ❤

Here’s a tip for your riding: try sitting more forward in your pelvis and you will feel yourself put more weight in your sturrups. Your balance is good, but could use a little bit of improvement, but you have come a very far way. People say to put your heels down, but that doesn’t matter, it matters about the weight in your heels.

I'm not saying this just to be gratuitous...I ride Western and I was "taught" to ride by someone sticking me on a horse and saying, "this is how you steer." Your English looked good to me! Did you look like one of those Dressage people? No -- but what you DID look like was someone who felt basically comfortable in the saddle, and like you knew what you were doing. You look connected with Rudnik and you look relaxed and not nervous at all -- I'd be scared witless to try English! Ignore the cranks. You know him better than anyone so enjoy the ride (both actually and metaphorically).

As a never had a horse person, hang in there. I enjoy your content - shake off the critics and you do you. The horse is beautiful. The relationship between rider and horse is fantastic. Just enjoy the ride. I'm the dog lady, with the broken dog. He and I have come so far in the last 9 years, it takes work, love and understanding. There are plenty of people out there who have never taken on the challenge of a truly broken animal, that's their loss. Our animals will never be perfect, they will always be a little broken but hey, so am I. Just give love and eventually you will get it back in spades. Love and thankfulness. Broken animals know that you are trying, they are trying too, it just takes a little longer for us to see it.❤‍🩹
