I really like this dynamic. You really feel Peter's frustration and anxiety with having to deal with MJ, but you kinda get that she hates being the damsel in distress. Anyone in that position would feel devalued after awhile. At the same time, we know why Peter treated her like she was "made of glass." He has superpowers that make him stronger than ten or twenty men, but he's still vulnerable. He can still break (literally), so imagine how easily breakable normal people seem to him. He fears the worst because he's seen it. So when she throws herself in the fray against the same dudes and dudettes that can break him, it's no wonder he gets overprotective.
That, and also she does kinda run head first into places with enemies armed to the teeth. Doesn't matter how strong or independent you are as a person, bullets hurt

The IDEA of a "Vampire-Human love story" wasn't bad. The actual problem was that Stephanie Meyer, being an awful writer, couldn't do such an idea justice. The characters, dialogue and execution were all embarrassing.... I mean Vampires that sparkle in sunlight??? Fuck outta here. My ideal vision of a Vampire-Human love story is one with a lot of darkness, sophistication, mystique and amorality to it. The Vampire should feel amused by the Human's feelings for it and treat the Human as a plaything or a pet. The Vampire may become comfortable with keeping the human around and may even indulge the Human's amorous feelings, but the Vampire's apparent affection should be a little suspect. Are his/her feelings for the Human genuine or is it just a game?
This has to be my favourite depiction of their relationship so far. I just love the dialogue between them. It seems so realistic for people in their situation. That and I love the subtle animations especially at the end where she's making circles on the table with her finger while suggesting that Peter stay at her place. Everything's just so well done. Kudos to you Insomniac!

The fact that the game started already in a post-breakup situation is very interesting- the way Peter and MJ rebond throughout the story is a really great subplot. =)
10 years I have waited for Peter and Mary Jane's relationship to be accurately depicted in non-comic media. When I started reading comics, unfortunately the infamous 'One More Day' storyline had just happened and Peter was just a dopey bachelor again. While they just got back together in the comics recently, this game is the first time their relationship has been portrayed in a satisfying way since the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series.
I know this is an old comment but I 100% agree no interpretation of MJ or Peter's and MJ relationship has ever done justice to the coomicbook version as well as it's done here (with the exception of The Spectacular Spider-Man show). The Rami version ruined the character and made people think she's this annoying, useless hollow shell of the comicbook version.
Ooooh the character of MJ in The Ultimate Spider-Man animated series was pretty dope and similar too. As a matter of fact the character in it looks exactly like the PS4 one. However I don’t think their relationship was portrayed a lot in it

Wish Marvel could write like this in their comics. I love youthful Spider-Man as much as the next guy, but I also want to see him grow up and get with MJ and evolve as a character. But they hate the mere thought of it. Insomniac did an incredible job with this game. Imagine how good the Spider-Man comics could be if Marvel cared about him and the fans as much as Insomniac does.

I think their relationship in the comics had some pretty good moments, but I agree that this game certainly provides one of the best portrayals of the Peter MJ relationship. It's certainly better than the way their relationship was handled in the Raimi films.
The only other good interpretation was Spectacular Spider Man. She was my favorite Girlfriend of Spider Man until I read more, and different story lines, Gwen Stacey really is the best option. Her death became such a high deal that they retroactively went back and developed Peter's relationship with her more so that they could make her death more traumatic. The only version of Gwen I have any degree of interest in is the version that is Spider-woman. MJ is the best match for Peter.
Insomniacs version of MJ both characteristically, visually, and relationship wise with Peter is the BEST depiction I have ever seen out of any other versions. THIS is the MJ and Peter that I love and I honestly think the role of her being a witty, independent, and ballsy reporter really helps grasp her character and arcs her as her own stand-alone while also being in support of Peter! I just want her to be depicted like this from now on and them together as such. Insomniac, you really made an amazing game and really transformed the characters we knew and loved into something I fell in love with even more than the original takes onto them, thank you.

Comical Cosmonaut well that doesn’t change what happened in “One More Day”(hate that comic to death and wish it never existed), they won’t go any further then that(dating) and that is the problem, it was a huge mistake on Marvel’s part and they need to fix it. In this game universe Peter and MJ could/can get married and have children in the sequel(I hope they do) the 616 spiderman is not really the same spiderman we all came to know and love, that is why OMD needs to be fixed or erase from cannon.

While I love the Sami Raimi Spiderman trilogy this game portrayed the relationship better than that whole series. Was a slow burner throughout the whole game and had them as equals working together. Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole game and provided some funny and heart wrenching moments. Bravo insomniac Bravo, and get working on a sequel.

The apartmen suit up scene becomes hilarious for anyone who has the Iron Spider Suit (cuz the suit is made of nano tech) MJ: Did you put your clothes on the floor? Pete: What clothes? *zip away*
Their interactions are so cute. They respect each other and they try to tread that line between being good friends with boundaries but you can tell that both of them low-key miss each other but don't want to make things into an awkward drama until they actually got together in the end which is satisfying to see. This game and Spectacular had developed Peter and MJ's relationship well.

Absolutely love that she isn't the damsel-in-distress in this game, and the plot doesn't just follow their relationship. It's more of a sub-plot that is in no way a focus to the main story. She doesn't call you saying "let's get back together! Oh nvm" and become an annoying ex girlfriend. Guys, if you ever find a girl that resembles this MJ's personality, marry her and don't fuck it up.
But she is the damsel in distress though, multiple times she puts herself in moronic situations that could very easily get her killed and Peter shows up to save, and she does it again as if she didn’t almost die the last time

Idiots on the internet cannot separate a real human being from a fictional character. Laura is a good person who was just doing her job to support herself, and man babies put blame on her over something ultimately trivial.
I loved MJ a lot & I loved the chemistry between the two, it felt so real & natural. I do hate how we had to wait till they shared a romantic scene till the end of the game although it was worth it. I also loved her missions, a lot of people hated her missions but its probably because they sucked at sneaking around the bad guys.

I really like this portrayal of MJ best and their dynamic is interesting and cute. I even like the scenes where they're arguing. I mean, both of their reasons are valid. I know some people hate the stealth but I don't mind it much. I do that most of the time when given the option anyway. And people who say they don't like MJ because of her appearance is just shallow. And people call her unreasonable and bitchy, but her situation is pretty understandable. Being an investigative journalist, especially in a city with these kinds of enemies, she's bound to be surrounded in hostile environments. With or without Peter. She's an independent woman and Peter's overprotectiveness is holding her back from being herself. I think MJ's job goes well beyond than just being a job. It's her passion to help people. Heck, Peter is the same too. He might be more capable but he always had this pride thing going on and he doesn't like being treated like he couldn't himself. Like MJ. She's actually really cute, not just on the outside. I love the representation they executed with her in this game. So thumbs-up, Insomniac.

The scene where Peter knocks out the guy before MJ can talk to him really shows that people miss the whole point of why MJ broke up with Peter in this universe. She wanted to be his partner and contribute in her own way. And in this situation he doesn’t trust that she could ever have the situation under control and unintentionally ruins her best lead. Her problem with him is that she gets frustrated by how much he treats her like an object that needs saving when there are some things she can handle on her own. She doesn’t get mad at Peter for saving her in general. She gets mad when Peter assumes she can’t handle herself. MJ may put herself in danger at times but she still has enough common sense to know when there’s a situation she can’t handle on her own. And Peter’s biggest development point in understanding MJ is growing to trust her and see her as a partner rather than the typical girlfriend or damsel in distress.
Idk about you but the awkwardness brings so much joy to me. I just started playing the remastered and the dialogue where Peter is worried about what to cook for MJ while swinging around the city makes the game so loveable.

Comical Cosmonaut well that doesn’t change what happened in “One More Day”(hate that comic to death and wish it never existed), they won’t go any further then that(dating) and that is the problem, it was a huge mistake on Marvel’s part and they need to fix it.
In this game universe Peter and MJ could/can get married and have children in the sequel(I hope they do) the 616 spiderman is not really the same spiderman we all came to know and love, that is why OMD needs to be fixed or erase from cannon.

While I love the Sami Raimi Spiderman trilogy this game portrayed the relationship better than that whole series. Was a slow burner throughout the whole game and had them as equals working together. Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole game and provided some funny and heart wrenching moments. Bravo insomniac Bravo, and get working on a sequel.
I would have liked it if Mary Jane wasn't in so suicidal since she is constantly putting herself in dangerous situations

Their interactions are so cute. They respect each other and they try to tread that line between being good friends with boundaries but you can tell that both of them low-key miss each other but don't want to make things into an awkward drama until they actually got together in the end which is satisfying to see. This game and Spectacular had developed Peter and MJ's relationship well.

Absolutely love that she isn't the damsel-in-distress in this game, and the plot doesn't just follow their relationship. It's more of a sub-plot that is in no way a focus to the main story. She doesn't call you saying "let's get back together! Oh nvm" and become an annoying ex girlfriend.

This is one of the reasons why Laura Bailey is a great actress, because of her portrayal of MJ in this game. She never deserved all that hate and death threats for playing Abby in The Last of Us 2
Idiots on the internet cannot separate a real human being from a fictional character. Laura is a good person who was just doing her job to support herself, and man babies put blame on her over something ultimately trivial.
I loved MJ a lot & I loved the chemistry between the two, it felt so real & natural. I do hate how we had to wait till they shared a romantic scene till the end of the game although it was worth it.
I also loved her missions, a lot of people hated her missions but its probably because they sucked at sneaking around the bad guys.
This is by far my favourite version of Spiderman/Peter Parker and MJ, bravo Insomniac

I really like this portrayal of MJ best and their dynamic is interesting and cute. I even like the scenes where they're arguing. I mean, both of their reasons are valid. I know some people hate the stealth but I don't mind it much. I do that most of the time when given the option anyway.
And people who say they don't like MJ because of her appearance is just shallow. And people call her unreasonable and bitchy, but her situation is pretty understandable. Being an investigative journalist, especially in a city with these kinds of enemies, she's bound to be surrounded in hostile environments. With or without Peter. She's an independent woman and Peter's overprotectiveness is holding her back from being herself. I think MJ's job goes well beyond than just being a job. It's her passion to help people. Heck, Peter is the same too. He might be more capable but he always had this pride thing going on and he doesn't like being treated like he couldn't himself. Like MJ.
She's actually really cute, not just on the outside. I love the representation they executed with her in this game. So thumbs-up, Insomniac.

The scene where Peter knocks out the guy before MJ can talk to him really shows that people miss the whole point of why MJ broke up with Peter in this universe. She wanted to be his partner and contribute in her own way. And in this situation he doesn’t trust that she could ever have the situation under control and unintentionally ruins her best lead. Her problem with him is that she gets frustrated by how much he treats her like an object that needs saving when there are some things she can handle on her own. She doesn’t get mad at Peter for saving her in general. She gets mad when Peter assumes she can’t handle herself. MJ may put herself in danger at times but she still has enough common sense to know when there’s a situation she can’t handle on her own. And Peter’s biggest development point in understanding MJ is growing to trust her and see her as a partner rather than the typical girlfriend or damsel in distress.
Idk about you but the awkwardness brings so much joy to me. I just started playing the remastered and the dialogue where Peter is worried about what to cook for MJ while swinging around the city makes the game so loveable.
Insomniac just nailed the relationship between peter and mj . This is also my favourite version of mj . I hope that in the sequal to this game , we will get just as a good relationship between them .
