I remember someone commented regarding to express counterpart of 460. Giving the fact 721 was discontinued not long ago, it is unlikely for an express counterpart of 460. The 721 along with 701, only had a ridership level of 50-70 riders per day pre-Covid. The 794 had the highest, with 110 riders. If 461/460X was a thing, I could unfortunately see the ridership level go into double digits (even if it had a decent frequency) probably around Lines 607 & 608 levels, being realistic right there, even if it looks good on paper, resources would probably go into waste, it is better to spend resources by increasing headways for other express lines such as the 460 or extending further east of Disneyland.
Line 489; the only remaining rush hour express from Downtown had a decent ridership with 500 pre-Covid (higher than 442 in which it only had about 200-250), don’t know what’s the ridership as of now, but I could see around 350-400 at the max so far. This express line was lucky enough to survive, many of the old rush-hour express lines were either transferred to a muni or cancelled altogether. I would extend the 489 to Arcadia Station via Santa Anita Racetrack. However, since 2 BRT lines proposal might actually happen on Valley (DTLA to possibly Pomona) & Rosemead (Pasadena to Long Beach) separately, the 489 might be in risk. The 266 will most certainly will operate alongside with BRT, but since 489 is an express, the BRT will take more an advantage than the 489.

Metro Line 489 most likely will be canceled if a BRT route along the Rosemead-Lakewood Blvd corridor is built. Unless Line 489 be re-routed along a corridor to provide a R/H service that coincides with lines 78 or 79.

We planned to record OCTA Route 794 this summer but if you really want to see that line, our crews may be able to take the day off and record it this month. A subscriber made a generous donation to specifically record routes 701/721 and post them by June. All we can say please stay tuned, tomorrow we plan to be in the San Fernando Valley to scout MTA Line 161. Thank you for your continued interest!
