I remember the Proxima Centauri results. One really compelling problem with it is that the frequency of the signal is an extremely unlikely round number when measured in inverse seconds. The unit of one second is clearly derived from human culture. I will point out that it is close to the time between heartbeats for a healthy adult who got a lot of exercise, like most adults did a few hundred years ago. Wikipedia says that the historical definition comes from the angular velocity of the Earth.
A more advanced civilization would almost certainly base its unit of time on something more universal. According to Wikipedia, "since 1967, the second has been defined as exactly "the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium-133 atom" (at a temperature of 0 K)".

One reason I think people get caught up in the dichotomy of "Aliens or Not Aliens?" is because they make the assumption that they know what life is defined as in the first place. When we look for alien life, we look for signals that resemble something we're expecting. The universe is unfathomably huge, so why are we limiting our look to our tiny, loose definition of life as we know it on our one planet? How do we know that we'd even recognize alien life if we encountered it? But yes, for now, using some version of Occam's Razor is our best path forward.

Its tumbling would almost certainly produce a rotating thrust vector.
Also, its rotation would cause the Sun to heat the object pretty evenly, meaning that it would have to have received a huge total heat load to cause any part of it to outgas with any substantial force. Did it even get close enough to the Sun to impart that big a heat load?

As we sat in the car, about to get out, a speeding craft caught my eye through the windshield to my far right. I sprang out of the car and got a good look at it, as it sped across my field of vision. I watched as it disappeared on the horizon in a couple of seconds. The craft was saucer-shaped top and bottom, dark in color, and seemed to be rotating slowly. It was perhaps 500 feet in the air, and a half-mile distant from me. I guess, in my crude way, that it was making five or six thousand miles per hour. It was totally silent.

We don't get the Aliens DLC patch to the simulation for a couple of years yet.

I'm pretty sure it comes out on July 4. That way, Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith can save us.

i love how PBS spacetime uses Jardim Botânico from Curitiba footage on their videos. This is the second one where i spot some pictures of it. And it happens i live nearby it. Which is awesome

That signal from Proxima centauri is probably a warning that we have a millenia to leave Earth before it is demolished in order to create the hyperspace space route

actually there’s still a lot of interest in the venues life issue. I just listened to an Event Horizon podcast done in December of 2021 where there’s still quite a lot of convenient data for things that had been conveniently set aside from earlier missions that didn’t make sense. Like apparently three missions found oxygen in the atmosphere but was unable to be explained. And a few other things that make sense if it turns out to be true. Doesn’t mean it is but it’s not nearly as dead an issue as it seems space time feels about it.
