  • Capt Phil "Ritz" Smith and Capt John "Gizmo" Cox start up and fly a low demo at the 2009 "Amigo Airsho" held at Biggs Army Airfield in Ft Bliss, TX. While filming this sequence I made sure to include lots of startup footage, including the cycling of the exhaust nozzles and flight control checks. As for the flight, locals said its the first time they've seen that much vapor on a jet in years. Enjoy!

Anybody giving an F-15 a "thumbs down" needs a serious mental evaluation.

Awesome sound on the JFS and eng start. First time I heard the eng start I was on TDY at Zaragosa and it was a Bit F-15 acft. Couple yrs later I was at MDC on the F-15E line on the Flt Line.

Yup.. This is hands down the best bid AND audio I've seen. U F-15 guys I noticed on here (I mentioned this on another bid of F-15s here) that they pull chokes, pull fwd a bit, then do the checks again. I get the checking but I never got the pulling fwd first. Thanks ahead of time.

I love seeing my friends from Seymour Johnson and partners in the desert several times. I now live a few hours away from Goldsboro.
I however love seeing my old base Biggs Air Force Base again. I spent 4 years stationed there and loved it. I was really sorry to see them close it. We had the second largest hangers in the world I believe because we had B-52's and KC-135 tankers. The Thunderbirds did an Air show their and it was awesome Flying over Mt. Franklin and the base.
    Kudos to Seymour Johnson

Did you guys ever done missions with HARMS? I was wondering if the E is even able to do anything with it cus i have never seen one with it. It said it has it in its arsenal but it mention harpoons as well so i became a bit unsure.

@3:20 that "whoooop" sound from the nozzle change I always heard growing up around an F-15C base as they approached landing, sometimes 500' or lower over our house depending on the runway and pattern. Always thought it was the dorsal speed break deploying.

12:15; absolutely sweet combination of maneuvers.....Nice! Considering the field elevation and the DA, they sure made it bite the air that day. Beautiful planform.

I agree with A8187. The sound of the nozzle adjusting is VERY loud. I was able to hear them on a F-15 on final approach. I was about 1/4 from the end of the runway, on the "HOT" line.

@roadrodent1952 Could you maybe tell me how the JFS of the F-15 works? I know how it works on the F-16, just a small turbine but the JFS of the F-15 sounds so different, not like the small turbine of the F-16's JFS. It allmost seems that the actuall turbine is started when the pilot wants to start either engine.

What's that Formula 1 sound when they start the engines? It's not the JFS right? Cause that is a turbine engine and a turbine engine does not sound like a Formula 1 car.

No I'm not THAT bad of a speller. I'm on my IPhone and the auto spell checker thinks it knows what I want even before I'm done typing the word. If I don't catch, it looks like my last post. Plus the Morphine I'm on for my back does a number. Also, I noticed in this vid that the JFS sounds like it's speeds up just before it disengages. I never heard one that sounded this way.
