Making a LOFI beat using Resample // SP404sx workflow breakdown

- In this video I get comfy and try my hand at making a lofi beat using the resample method. This isn't my go to way of making beats as I find it quite fiddly, but it was fun all the same.
I did a bit more work on it after filming and laid some rap vocals over the top so don't forget to check out the full beat at the end of the video.

If you use reverse you can trim the end without listening to the loop over and over. Great job as always SPVIDZ
For some reason Iâve never been able to get the hang of trimming using reverse. I will try and do some practice soon!
@@spvidz its super weird for sure
Yeah but you need a kick transient to cut off. Good point to not trim until the end though.
Great tip. I am going to try that.
@@spvidz you gotta leave just a little snippet of the next bar of the loop. Then when you reverse it trim until you cant hear the click or pop when it loops around again. Hope that helps.
dope beat. thanks for showing us your workflow. I like that tip about leaving space at the beginning of a kick to get a built in swing. im gonna start experimenting with that.
So I binged all your videos when I got my 404 a year ago and first of all I want to say thanks for all the free content you put out!
Since the beginning I decided to abandon the sequencer and forced myself to learn resample and here are some insights I want to share but feel free to ignore them hahaha
One tip for resampling to create beats (drums specifically) is to just record a single sequence of whatever you want to start with (hi hat, snare, or kick) and when I say single sequence I mean literally like 1-4 swung hi hats (like a single âticktick tickâ) then set it to loop. You can then resample the snare and kick over that loop for as long as you want - or you can add one drum at a time and just keep resampling with the recording set to âloopâ. Itâs basically a shorter version of the method you used - thereâs going to be less variation in the swing (good or bad) but itâs way easier to make a consistent loop because you only need to record a couple of hits of each drum at a time and then loop the recording rather than having to play out the whole sequence. Not sure if this makes any sense but hopefully it can give some insight.
This way you can finish a drum loop first and then play the sample to the drums - not having to worry about timing too much
And if you keep some of the beginning drum recordings itâs way easier to go back as many steps as you want and record variations over those steps
Also I saw you replied to a comment about how you havenât gotten the hang of trimming in reverse another tip for that would be to always end with one extra hit of whatever it is youâre recording that way when you put it into to reverse all you have to do is scale back to right before the beginning of that last extra pad hit.
Oh but one thing I have to add is that this requires a tiny bit of thinking ahead because you can only hit two pads a time when resampling if I remember correctly
Thanks for the tips, yeah making a drum loop first would be a lot easier, I'll definitely try that in the future
It could be interesting making a basic beat with resampling technique then ,rechopping and add more elements by pattern sequence
Great video once again.
just recently got my sp , binge watching ur vids man ! thanks for making all this easier
No problem man. Welcome to the gang! Glad you found the channel
,thank you man. I always go back to your vidz and I always learn something new.
Glad to hear it bro! Thanks for watching
Excited for the new drum pack! i love the ones i have so far
Thanks a lot man. I think this is going to be a good one đ
Love it man. Thanks for keeping it in the box and showing your entire work flow just like the dawless days.
No problem, appreciate you watching! It is fun making little beats completely inside the SP!
NOFX was one of my favorite bands growing up lmao. Got the MKII preordered- been picking your brain watching all of your videos. Mad helpful! Appreciate the quality of your work top to bottom. Much love brother!
haha me too man not listened to them for a long time. Need to change that!
Great video! Love seeing the SX in action. Youâre a beast for making that all on resample!
Thanks a lot man!
13:10 if you keep MARK pressed before hitting a pad it'll place the mark at the start of the sample ;) love your videos man, its been a pleasure learning how to use the sp with you
Dope little tip! Thanks for sharing đ
Omg the madness of resample, space and trim which is why I love this so much! Hours in the basement I spend simultaneously creating and forgetting beat variations. " wait which pad did I put that on?" - me
This video was awesome, thank you!
Haha you could get lost doing this for hours yeah. Itâs fun as hell though! Appreciate you tuning in đ
Great video as always ....
Thanks bro!
Good Stuff Brotha Mad Luv
back at you man! Thanks for tuning in!
Great stuff bro!! Can't wait to see you with the Sp404 Mkii in action, assuming it's real đ Can't wait for more news đ°
Same here man Iâm hyped for an announcement!
Loving every Sp vid. Looking to do some designs for some shirts for the sp404 nation
Cool maaan. Im always use resample workflowđ„đ„đ„
Need to start using it more I think. Thanks for watching!
Just grabbed one of these for $300. Signed up to your group to support your channel.
Where u get those colored dials and the black pads ? My SP coming has like clearish pads with black numbers. Also, you ever paint the face plate? Iâm thinking of throwing neon green on as a background color and sticker it up from there
Great Video bro.
Thanks a lot man!
the beat was fire fam!!!
Appreciate that man! Thanks a lot
i never learned how to use the pattern sequencer before, so i was always intimidated by making full beats on the 404 bc of having to resample everything.
after watching your vids on both i'm gonna give pattern sequencer a try, i think that'll take the timing issue out of the equation.
thanks!
Takes a little bit of work to get it sounding good but its a lot of fun once you get the hang of it!
Excellent thx
Thanks for watching!
Nice video. What do you think about the sp404 MK2?
It looks killer! Hope we get some more info soonâŠ
i know @Roland better make sure this man is the first one with one! I donât want to see another content creator with the hookup before spvidz gets his freebie đ
@@spvidz This comment is so funny now lol
@spvidz I need your help! Been trying to resample the same sample but when I finish and play it back it skips or just messes up? Really frustrating because just trying to add an effect makes it skip and throws the beat off got any advice or a suggestion to fix this?
Hmmm Iâve not had that happen before. I have had glitches when recording longer samples though but nothing like that đ€
@@spvidz ah yes I thought so I always chop or my samples are a good length ya know I guess now I just need to chop them up and resample them into a pad
